TITANFALL 2 |G2.1| "Whatever The Fuck That Means"

Screaming Meat

Guess I will try moz + EPG and use moz as main soon.

Yeah, it's a pretty good set-up. MozamBeast is spicy.

What's the best load out for someone new? I'm going with the assault rifle right now (think it's the Spitfire?) but I find ADS on that kills any momentum I have and makes it pretty worthless. Do most of you guys aim without ADS?

Any and all tips for a newcomer are welcome!

Bear in mind that I'm no expert.

I prefer hipfiring myself. For that and the extra mobility I recommend the SMGs. Having played with each now for a fair amount of time, I can honestly say all of them are pretty good (once you get used to them). In my experience, you rarely need to use ADS to get the best out of them. I use Gunrunner, Tactikill (?), and either Iron Sights or the first unlockable short range sight (just in case) on all of them. I have no complaints.

The EVA shotgun is also pretty good for hipfiring in my opinion. It's a two shot kill at close range.

For secondary weapons, you can't go wrong with the MGL for messing up Titans. I tend to use Extra Ammo and Faster Reload on mine.

So what's considered the strongest ability right now for Attrition? I haven't played in a while, and when I was playing it was cloak by far. That's been nerfed along with Sonar, so what's the new OP?

Phase Shift is the nuts.

Finished the campaign (loved it - worthy of all of the praise being thrown at it) and am just getting into the multiplayer.

I'm terrible. Like, so bad. I could hold my own every match in TF1, but I'm not sure what's different about TF2 that's making not able to do well. I don't think it's not being familiar with the maps because I picked up on those pretty quickly.

phase shift is the strongest right now if your mobile and want to be a pain in the ass. a-wall for those that sit back with a devotion/hemlok/g2.

This game provides many opportunities to do bad ass shit. Give it time.

Ok, the CAR has rejuvenated my love for the game. I'm back to playing it fast and free like i was with the volt pre-nerf without being hindered by my weapon. Dealing with range retarded weapons is still a problem though but since i'm having fun again i can deal with it at times. In saying that there's so many baffling design decisions i hope they address with the next update.

Respawn should really make this next update count. This next update should be their biggest one. If they drop the ball on this update the game will probably lose half it's population. A lot of really good players haven't picked the game back up since the last mediocre update. The lack of competition and good players to play against are really hurting the experience.

The main things to tweak

  • Hemlok/Devotion/G2a nerfs: There is no reason a game based on movement should have it's 3 most overpowered weapons be sniper like AR's that are incredibly easy to use.
  • Tone/Northstar: In my opinion Tone is almost balanced. Switching her ability to hit pilots with the 40mm with that of Northstars, and giving Northstar tone's pilot accuracy would balance both titans out.
  • Sentry-turret: Should take less damage to destroy, and should track far less accurately.
  • Phase shift: Slight adjustment to this so it's not so overpowered, and it should not be allowed to go into phase when flag running.
  • A-Wall: Should take less damage. Wait does it take any damage at all? Seems like it lasts forever despite shooting at it even with a 40mm.
  • Pilot glow: God i wish they'd reduce this a bit more. They don't have to go crazy but a bit less christmas tree bright would be nice. This isn't FUCKING OVERWATCH
  • Reticule: no reason to do what they did with some of these guns and removing the reticule dot. it's nonsense. Put it back.
  • Matchmaking: The matchmaking is so awful, Respawn continues to have one of the worst matchmaking algorithms in all of gaming. It's usually one team stomping the other. A more competitive feel to the play would be nice. It'd be nice to have some challenging matches.
  • Match durations: CTF should have more rounds. Attrition should go to 500 (why does it stop at 475? is there a reason?). Why on earth was LTS
    changed from best of 7 to best of 5? Such a bad decision. Overall i see a lot of complaints from people that matches don't last long enough.
  • Custom game options. As of right now we don't have any settings options in private matches. No customization at all.
  • Maps: Of course maps, we all know what we want. The new maps better be damn good and more like Titanfall 1 maps.

Am i missing something? I think those are the biggest complaints i see from almost everyone that plays the game. These things MUST be adjusted for the sake of this game surviving.

I have a few other ones that are more personal but i doubt Respawn would adjust it now. I think the faster you move the harder it should be to hit you, your hit box should shrink like it seemed like it did in Titanfall 1. Weapons should also track way less than it does now. The combination of the two is aggravating, it's aggravating jumping, strafing, doing all you can only to be killed by some bad player somehow tracking you while spraying for the kill.
I doubt they fix any of that, but as long as they do attempt to tweak the other stuff people complain all the time about i think the game will be so much more enjoyable for most people.

Unless they implement a vote to resign system or a built in mercy system, longer matches are just going to be frustrating for people on both sides of a stomp match. I've seen Attrition matches where both teams have no idea what to do, and I'm just trying to get points to end the match to put everyone out of their misery. A 10 minute match that ends with a 350-250 score is the pits.

(If anything, I think Attrition needs way more minions to make the matches end faster and to allow swings to happen more frequently).

Neither should it to so much damage to Titans. Also, you're tracked through Phase Shift, but I assume this is by design.

Probably bugged. You can't destroy it.

This is probably more to do with the nature of the game. Networks isn't helping this either, since the least popular ones are just full of players who want to be with good teams. Whatever SBMM they did at the end of Titanfall 1 should not be here though, where they match good players vs. one great+worst.
  • Match durations: CTF should have more rounds. Attrition should go to 500 (why does it stop at 475? is there a reason?). Why on earth was LTS

Wholeheartedly agree. Though tbh, Attrition has many problems imo.

We're confirmed to be getting it.

I dunno what they're going to do with all the Titanfall 2 maps. If they do enough work, they can take the Destiny route and remove bad ones from the playlists.

Right now I am loving EPG-1 + Mozambique combo so much, I'd actually enjoy the game less if they did something to it. I'm having so much fun in almost every single game.

Thanks for the advice for the gauntlet guys but I just can't do it. Can't get past 38s and I miss targets to consistently often. Really fucking annoyed at myself, spent the last hour trying and am now gonna try going to sleep pissed off that I wasted an hour when I could of being playing something else.

Not really the games fault

I don't think tips can help. I always miss someone 75% and the remaining time I fuck up jumping, usually near the end. I've never had the reflexes for fighting games so I don't have the skills to build up speed.

Found the campaign on master relatively stress free but I can't handle this.

I was pretty decent and fighting games, but found it challenging here.

You should share anyways, you never know what little tip could give a big help <3

I believe in you. If you can get 38 seconds, then you're on your way.

I'm SO close to G10.

This game is like 40% easier than the original Titanfall. I didn't realise how easy mode Attrition was in comparison to Bounty Hunt.

When you backfill into a losing match halfway through and pull through to win as the top scorer on the team.
Oh gosh, I felt like the reinforcements.

Happened in another match but I didn't feel so grand there because if I didn't know any better they lobbed me into a game of mostly new players, everyone was slowly grappling around without much awareness and I must've had 8 successful rodeos, sometimes I'm not sure how matchmaking works here.

I agree but the longer match durations would come a long with a revamped matchmaking system that actually balanced teams.

Whatever SBMM they did at the end of Titanfall 1 should not be here though, where they match good players vs. one great+worst.
I kind of somewhat prefer that. At least there'd be a challenge. Sure, frustrating as hell, and had me screaming at times, but stomping for games on end isn't fun. Though, lately, i have been getting into some ok CTF matches. Pretty much for the same reason though, it was me vs a team of 5.

Some games would become impossible though.

In Attrition, specifically, you'd win one round with 180 points ~~ it's then swap you out with people who didn't do more than about 30 max, forcing you to get something like 180~200 against other best players.

Ofc, a team of good players, there aren't anyone who gets 150+, they have something like 80 each.

Numbers are pulled from my butt, but it portrays what I mean.

One time I played in Tokyo made this very evident.

Different guns have crosshair on different spots... they are not all exactly on same spot?!?
Or dunno "all" but CAR and Volt I tried have dot on different spot by few millimeters.

They're all in the same place, but theres crosshair sway as you move, so it wont always be in the middle of the screen.

There seems to be some question as to whether the sway is purely cosmetic (ie, bullets go to the center point anyway) or if they follow the dot as it sways.

I put a piece of a sticky note on my plasma over the CAR reticule. Immediately felt 10x better.

i actually forget to put this in my bullet point as a tweak. so i'll edit it now.

yes, Respawn needs to stop this reticule dot nonsense.

Swol, Tone is not balanced until they stop allowing damage from Salvo core charge to contribute to the next salvo core charge.

Also, Sonar can light up pilots, but should not grant any homing for them.

Longer CD on the wall. Stop grinding combat to a halt.

i've been saying for them to not allow the sonar to paint targets. they don't listen. i think as long as the 40mm is a little harder to hit pilots with then tone would be more balanced. i feel like anything else and tone would be severely nerfed compared to how good ronin and ion are.

Tone's ability against Pilots is fine if you compare with Ronin.

But when you look at every other Titan (outside of Smart Core... why is that even in the game...), there isn't a single primary that compares.

This is the issue. Nerfing Tone's primary shouldn't be a thing. The 40mm isn't even as great as it was in the original. It's fun because of its utility.

But if you combine that with these maps not giving Pilots the ability to move about or Ejection being low enough for the 40mm to Goose consistently... all combined with the fact that Arc Cannon, X0-16 and Quad Rockets are gone... it becomes not just the most fun Primary, but outright the best.

These new Titans all have interesting abilities to deal with Hardpoints or Banks etc. but even in those modes, it doesn't matter when it really just comes down to Titan combat.

What's the difficulty curve for learning to use Scorch properly? You can get better with Thermite, engage where you have the advantage... but at the end of the day the Fire Shield is his best tool (and Flame Core) and neither of them are things you can get "better" at using.

Tone on the other hand, if you master her weapons, the 40mm can hit "everything".

I think "most-balanced" is misleading. She's the only "complete" Titan.

Ronin imo is the closest, but his Sword Core having a worse melee against Doomed Titans is just outright silly.

~~~
Speaking of Hardpoint. Remember when Pilots could hide inside C in Boneyard? That Titans weren't able to get around those little crates or w/e? Or when B was in a Pilot only enclosure with multiple exits?
I just feel like Pilots are completely secondary from Titans. With Titans being the only real "fuel" outside of vs. Pilot combat, you'd think they'd keep the David and Goliath design.
~~~

So, earlier today I played against perhaps my strongest opponent. He was soloQing and carrying the enemy team. I think he ended up with 150+ and I got like 170+. For the first half of the game, we began to lose by over 100 because he was first to fall with Ronin.

When I got my Ronin, it was when he ran out of his Titan and I was able to help my team get a full stack of Titans against nothing. When this dude got his next Titan, I groaned when he switched to Tone. It was obvious why he did that.

Essentially, we only went after each other in the game (because either of us in a Titan without the other was the goal) but he started to panic and ran right into me. Bare in mind, Ronin doesn't take damage from Rodeos, right? He had MGL, Charge Rifle, even switched to Archer all in the same game.

It's a shame he didn't have the opportunity to fight some minions on the other side of the map to come in with a Titan. But then again, this was Homestead.

My team won by about 120+ points in the end. Activate Sword Core, and just block... It's going to be annoying when more people realise how powerful that is.

Yeah, the problem with Tone is her versatility and complete toolset.

Every other Titan is more specialized and excels in certain matchups or scenarios, and is disadvantaged in others.

Tone is great in every situation, and very few situations provide her real obstacles to success.

PS. Give us back the XO-16 :(

Ronin is the closest to how I use to play my Atlas 40mm Cluster Smoke back in Titanfall. The only difference is, I can't win those fights with barely any health because almost every Titan has super easy to hit attacks haha. Chip damage is guaranteed and there are no rechargeable shields!

I've noticed that you have to repress block if you activate sword core (or when you reload?) -- need to get in the habit of pressing it again.

Has Respawn said anything about dying while using Phase Shift, because I've practically lost too many Bounty Hunt matches because I lost just enough bonus to cost us the game from doing said Phase Shift?

I can take a screen the next time I load up the game if someone else doesn't post it first. It's kind of underwhelming considering it's the last unlock. Pinups as nose art just looks weird considering the ones that make it look like you have a monster head or whatever.

i thought that to. We'll see. Frankly, i would have liked to see a ban on phase shift a long with bans for the hemlok. I didn't see many devotion players in the last tournament, don't expect to see them now either.

also, expect to see this titan lineup used by every single team

  1. Tone
  2. Ronin
  3. Ion
  4. Legion

Since the big sales happened and I assume a lot of people bought the game since, I have been getting into a LOT of "match in progress" games.

Sometimes I join games that started for only 30 seconds, and sometimes I join matches that started for 4 minutes.

I would say that out of 5 games, 2-3 are in progress that I join.

I just want to play a full match and be able to level up :\ Although I did join a game half way through and they were losing pretty bad and I ended up carrying them and win :D felt bad ass :D

The bolded sentiment is part of why I mostly quit posting in this OT and don't even bother responding to people like Swol. This is just saying "hey, once you're less bad you'll agree that I am right." It's possible to have lots of time in the game, be quite good at it, and still think stuff like Tone is poorly balanced.

Of course reasonable people can differ and I'm not trying to be a snob here. Nor do I think Tone is balanced right now. Let me put my point of view a different way.

I agree Tone is too strong when you look at the sum of her anti-Titan and anti-Pilot abilities. On the anti-Titan side, she's strong but she has counterplay. A player who has trouble fighting Tone as another Titan can learn how to best play against her and improve his game to the point where he can match or beat most Tones.* On the anti-Pilot side, she's strong and she has almost no counterplay. You can't improve your odds of surviving vs Tone by moving better or juking faster because the 40mm hitbox is so big it'll one-shot you regardless of your movement. You basically just have to try and never be in LOS of a Tone, phase shift as soon as she looks in your general direction, avoid being near any surface she can splash off of, etc. (Pilots have a similar problem facing really good Ions actually.)

So if Respawn is going to nerf some aspect of Tone's kit, I'd rather they make the 40mm hitbox smaller and increase the potential for counterplay by rewarding good pilot movement, rather than nerf her anti-Titan abilities in light of the fact that she already has counterplay there. Oh, and make Salvo Core not award core timer since the other cores don't work that way. Does that make sense?

* In case it's helpful to anyone, here are some tips for playing against Tone as Ion. These are probably not news to you but maybe someone will get some mileage out of these.

  • The most important thing is to poke safely with Laser Shot. Keep Tone at long range, peek corners and fire one or two Laser Shots, then go back behind cover and wait for Laser Shot to recharge. You trade extremely well since she should not get enough locks to fire rockets before you're back behind cover, and even if she does, they'll either be blocked by cover or you can easily Vortex Shield them on reaction. Use Splitter Rifle opportunistically if she still hasn't turned around after the Laser Shots, but don't just sit there and try to trade with your Splitter Rifle at long range since its damage is pretty pathetic. Just focus on poking with Laser Shot.
  • If you're safely behind cover, you can disembark and reembark to fully recharge your energy bar (this is faster than waiting for it to recharge naturally)
  • If she pops Particle Wall, just wait it out, don't waste time and energy trying to burn it down unless teammates are also shooting it. You will have the advantage once it runs out.
  • Avoid being in the middle of a long lane without any cover (this goes for anyone who tries to fight Tone)--e.g. the sewer sidelane on Drydock.
  • Count her hits against you and be prepared to Vortex Shield the rockets. Be aware you will need to reserve as much as half your energy bar to catch a full tracking rocket salvo depending on your framerate (Respawn plz fix this bug) and whether she has the rocket perk.
  • At close range you'll want to pop laser core if you have it, and if not, spend your energy on laser shot and catching tracker rockets, then use the Splitter Rifle's secondary fire once you're at 0 energy. Splitter Rifle's secondary fire outdps's the 40mm at close range and you can keep firing it at the usual rate of fire even with 0 energy (until you have to reload), which means it's optimal to spend your energy on other abilities before you use the secondary fire. Exception--the Tone is already significantly lower in health than you and you just want to burn her down as fast as possible. In general though, you don't really want to fight Tone at close range unless you know she doesn't have Salvo Core. Even if she doesn't have Salvo Core, it's not as good a trade as poking from afar.
  • If you don't drop your Titan in a bad spot (in the middle of enemy Titans) it is very hard for Tone to force you to fight at her optimal range. Ion and Tone have the same mobility and Ion is great at peeking/kiting.
