49-49:Senate blocks Casey amdt to prevent healthcare coverage loss for those w/pre-existing conditions.Rs Collins Heller voted Yes.60 needed

Sorry America, literally lots of people condemned to die today

Edit: sorry for sensationalist title

Not that it changes the inevitable (pre existing conditions coverage can't work without the mandate), but here is a little more info on what exactly this vote was. Keep in mind nothing is happening yet after these votes, other than setting the table for an eventual repeal vote.

And depression exists as a pre-existing condition. Rip therapy I hardly knew ye. Thanks Trump voters.

The only good point is the schadenfreude I'll get when those fools start crying about losing their healthcare. It'll be drowned out by people who knew better suffering too though. *sigh*

I don't have much hope, but it's not over yet. There is a lot of political fuckery, tactics, and posturing going on tonight. It's going to take a bit to see the end game.

That said.. Don't get your hopes up.

Hello high-risk pools. It's been awhile.

Realistically, there's no feasible way to keep it without also keeping the individual mandate.

Insane. This was the one thing in particular everyone wanted to stay more than anything else.
Doesn't really matter. The whole thing was full of co-dependent clauses. Something those fucking idiots complaining about the ACA fail to understand.

This is what happens when you have a bunch of dimwits who could barely pass introductory economics having a say about national policies.

I can't even begin to fathom how someone could do this. Just plain evil.

"I'm rich, I have great coverage. It's easy to get a job and have good coverage. There are so many options. People who are sick and have disabilities could work harder. The only thing keeping people down are themselves and government."

Generally, it's that line of thought.

A lot of Americans are going to die at the hands of the new Trump lead GOP. Living in America is now about surviving in America. We need to get serious about taking care of each other on a local, community level, because the federal government is coming after our basic safety.

Yup fuck us all. But somehow this is good to a lot of voters that need this and I don't get it.

I guess it's because even though I am white I don't "suffer from economic anxiety".

Thanks racists, desire so much to fuck up what Obama did and screw over minorities not only did you fuck yourselves but also a hell of a lot of innocent minorities, women, gay lesbian and bi, Trans people and the disabled like me all of us who didn't vote for those enabling this.

Between this and planned parenthood I am really scared.

Nah, the "you can keep your kids on your coverage until they're 26" was the only easy one.

You can't really keep the pre-existing conditions bit if you kill the individual mandate. Otherwise balance sheets collapse: exactly nobody buys health insurance (beyond maybe catastrophic coverage) until they're diagnosed with something, then they'd upgrade.

How soon until this takes effect? Is it an overnight kind of deal, or do people already settled in plans have amnesty?

I know that most people on this forum are pretty sharp, but I think its worth repeating on every page in this thread. People WILL die because of this. It's not a matter of if, but how many.

I doubt they could.

Oh god I wish some fool would say that to my face. I wouldn't stop laughing. I'd be feeling the cartman licking tears gif after breaking the news to them for hours. Then I'd remember the other people they screwed over and get depressed. :(

I'm doomed. Plus I used to have epilepsy.

*hugs* Thankfully I refused to take meds for my depression. If I had this'd be bad. My migraine medicine can thankfully just be replaced by Tylenol for the most part so I can make do. It's really shit for those that can't.

I'm not sure what I'm gonna do without my therapy though. Most times that's the only thing keeping me from hitting rock bottom.

I just can't believe this stupidity.

There goes my therapy coverage.

Thanks GOP, I hope you fuckers suffer.

Edit: Whatever can slow down the drafting of this repeal, please happen soon.

This isn't a law, it's an instruction to committees drafting the repeal law. But the fact that this passed is a troubling and strong indication of where we're heading.

There moving on fast pace now, they don't care since trump said dismantle ACA asap. And here is the result, all sick, disabled, troubled young and old people and everyone else is fucked. Because fuck you we are rich and you are poor, why are you poor?

You can thank everyone who voted trump but also who did not vote. This is reality now this is how it all starts and it will not end well.

"Both sides are the same." ,"Your vote doesn't matter." , etc. Damn shame it had to come to this. Especially when it didn't have to.

Discriminating on previous disabilities should be illegal. I feel for you Americans. Trump voters really have fucked things up.

Sorry to sound ignorant, but as far as I was concerned health insurance never covered pre existing conditions.

It is that way in the UK (from what I know) .... I know we have the NHS and its not as serious as this news, but was just wondering if I had a bad information?

I'm not even mad at the rich people. It's that 50k and under group who are going to be screwed over by this but wanted it away. Congratulations.

It's like I'm literally living in a Wishmaster movie.
