TITANFALL 2 |G2.1| "Whatever The Fuck That Means"

I feel like this is currently the worst time for Titanfall 2 ~~ like, in between the Live Fire announcement and release date.

The changes being confirmed makes the current balance feel like a bug so there's hardly any motivation to play.

After the patch, we should see what would be the peak going forward barring a huge update like Frontier Defence or free weekend/EA Access (if it's gunna happen).

Whatever modes die after this update will be dead seemingly forever. That's my assumption anyways.

Random Q: The game alerts you when a rocket is locking on to your Titan, and when a Smart-pistol is locking onto you as a pilot.

Why doesn't the game give you a similar warning when a Tone has established lock with their cluster missiles, or when a turret has locked on?

Seems oddly inconsistent, and in the latter cases, would actually be pretty useful for helping counter those abilities without actually doing anything to change their number values.

Agree with your Angel city point. It's fucking terrible. Whenever the map comes up I just groan now. Just rooftop camping with A-walls and one of 3 guns for the most part. Because of the proposterous damage of the MGL and the high buildings, a dedicated pilot can shred you in seconds too so titan combat isn't especially enjoyable either.

All of the other non-complex/crash site maps have grown on me though.

Thankfully(?), it's a problem with the meta, not the map itself.

If Respawn ever get around to nerfing the Hemlock and the Devotion, that in of itself will do a ton to help encourage more short-midrange, mobile playstyles.

I know some people would like a G2A nerf, and I understand that, I just never get frustrated getting killed with that gun. It takes a ton more skill to land shots in quick succession than the other two, and you're basically helpless at close/hipfire range.

So what's the average player count on PS4 look like? Thinking about getting it on consoles because since PC is so low it feels like I'm seeing just more and more hardcore people. I tend to keep up decently even on a controller but then I just look at the scoreboard and see like three people with no kills on my team all the time. Doesn't feel like I can sit back and relax a little, most matches make me feel I need to be super focused now. That's nice some of the time but not all the time.

when i get on it sits between 10000 to 15000 online

It's not surprising if numbers are really slumping. The post release support has been bad. They still haven't released any type of roadmap, seem to have no plan in mind, let the meta stagnate, have far too few maps, most of the kits/pilot perks are laughably bad, and bugs like Ion's shield damage glitch are damn near game-breaking.

TF2 was my goty but I am continually stunned by how tepid the post-release support has been. I realize the complexities of modern development and applaud the leadership at Respawn for giving the team time off. That said, as a person who bought a product partially for the expectation of long-term support, which I have enthusiastically supported with mtx purchases, TF2 is a disappointment. Still can't believe they wasted even a day of dev time on the incoming mode.

i completely disagree about the post release support being bad.

While in practice it ain't, it's a shame that a lot of people and even Respawn is asking us if we preferred the way things were in the first game (as well as maps being Titanfall 1 maps).

These are cool updates but in a context vacuum. As the Titanfall 1 player can I really be that excited if the game is going to have its Rodeo or maps?

The community is also finding bugs/balance woes at a much faster rate then patches, which, while normal, is also due to changes from the first game. People hate Devotion/Hemlok and yet, such novelty weapons weren't better than what the community wants to be the all-rounders anyway (R-101, C.A.R.)

I really fear that unless the next update brings in a LOT of people, we're waiting for their Horde stuff before we'll ever see a bump in numbers.

Live Fire simply can't underwhelm.

Rayme said they don't have a dedicated team working on updates since launch, and I think that is a mistake. In this era you 100% need an active live team consistently pushing out new content, just see how successful R6S got with their consistent content plan.

Agreed. Hell, almost the entire fucking Final Fantasy 15 team is still working on that game and it's a single player RPG that released months ago. Respawn's update team reminds me of Destiny's live team which isn't a big compliment.

Also, R6 has a year of content planned out now with a very clear and illustrated roadmap. TF2 has a thrown together picture of some content with half of it already being out since last year.

I just wish they would add core stuff to make everything fresh again. Some new kits or pilot abilities would make everything already in the game fresher. A new mode, like the one they're adding, does jackshit nothing.

Does Titanfall 2 need an overwatch style ranked mode?

People seem to need a number to stroke their epeen and this is something that's missing in TF2. Might help maintain player numbers.

NOOOOOOO

I quit Overwatch because ranked mode. It's the only mode where people actually play the game, and it's also incredibly stressful because it's so difficult to carry your team.

What Titanfall needs is better matchmaking. With the huge differences in TF|2 skill, ranked mode would be an utter shit show.

The updates feel really thin. Since launch they've put out 1 map. And along with it the one significant patch. And that's about it.

Compared with my other main FPS, R6 Siege put out Red Crow in late Nov, that's a new map and two new operators. Then there was the mid-season reinforcements patch which happened to come with the year's bonus map in December. And just now they put out another map plus two characters. And the characters do shift the meta and change the way the game is played, keeping it very fresh.

Granted they didn't quite have that pace on release, and that game still has massive technical issues that still aren't fixed, some of which might be addressed finally in next month's reinforcements patch but they are doing a much better job of keeping me motivated to play. The way Siege has done it has grown their game.

We still don't have a date for Live Fire so far as we know, and if Colony launches by itself Angel City style then I don't know what to say. We'll see what they say with the Frontier News thing on Friday, but they need to step it up compared to what they've shown so far.

I think it's safe to say that if Live Fire doesn't revitalise this game then it's not as good as the original on both fronts. It's a shame that so much work was done into changing rather than improving.

Well, I hope they do co-op before they call it on this game and move the entire team to Star Wars at least.

The difference is they're basically charging a season pass on R6. Same with the Division. I guess the only thing supporting the game now are new game sales and cosmetics, and I can't imagine either doing all that great at the moment.

^The R6 Season Pass is basically a self-imposed tax. No playable content is locked behind it. If you play any significant amount of time you can afford all the new operators with in game currency easily. And the maps are all free. Actually the renown you save by buying the Season Pass essentially just gives you access to more cosmetics.

It's a completely different model from The Division which does lock content behind the Season Pass.

I haven't played in a while, but when the first operators came out, it really felt like you had to win a lot of matches to get enough credits in a reasonable amount of time. I think you get like half or less renown if you lose? And you had to unlock all the operators from the base game anyway. I have to imagine a lot of people just bought the operators or bought gold so that they could just unlock stuff sooner.

Maybe Respawn should have sold packs of credits for people to use to unlock things for people who wanted to unlock everything on day 1. Of course now it's too late since most long term players have more credits than they can use.

Then you have Halo 5's post launch support plan, the quality is often up to debate but it was reasonably laid out and the pace is consistent.

Agreed. The Halo 5 plan was pretty good. Regular updates, some good additions but I do think Forge was a massive reason for all the extra content above what 343 planned.

TitanForge is a MUST for TF3!

Post launch seemed okay, but the actual launch was shit. TF2 at least felt like a complete multiplayer package on day 1, unlike Halo 5.

Picked this up off of Amazon. I haven't played since the first week of the game coming out. Given the changes that are currently happening to MW Remastered, I'm thinking it's time to get a new main multiplayer game. Look forward to playing with some of you.

Been watching some streams on twitch and a common theme I am seeing is poeple getting really pissed that Respawn hasn't patched a lot of overpowered weapons and exploits. Can't say I am surprised. I haven't played FPS recently that has been so ignored when it comes to balancing and patching. I mean we have gotten 2 small patches and the game has been out almost 4 months. Probably my favorite game currently with Overwatch, but I feel like they have really dropped the ball :/ The last streamer I watched said he thinks the lack of balancing will kill the game faster than the lack of content updates.

What shield damage glitch? Are you talking about the Vortex Shield?

Aside from the fact that it can absorb friendly fire (which it shouldn't), I think it's working as intended.

EDIT: Oh, are you talking about the splash damage when you have the Vortex Shield buff kit equipped?

In any case, if Respawn choose to fix one incredibly situational bug for my girl Ion before they address Tone's long-standing all-around dominance, Ill start flipping tables, lol

Yeah, the splash damage glitch. As a Legion player primarily, Ion is always a fucking irritant. As it stands, it's an irritant that can damn near instantly delete you from the game.

I've lost any faith that Respawn will ever address any of the litany of potential Tone issues. She'll get a 5% damage reduction on missle damage or something at some point and they'll call it a day.

Yeah, looking at Reddit, here, and other random places, that seems to be how a lot of people feel. The game feels abandoned compared to its contemporaries. Overwatch is getting new characters and maps, Siege has a bunch of new maps and operators on the way, H5 is still chugging along. TF2 fans are dying for a balance patch and an old map from the first game.

I dont think there's any question that Respawn has failed spectacularly to support their game.

Not simply as far as content, but basic fucking communication as far as a roadmap.

Its honestly looking increasingly likely that the entire team moved on to the Star Wars project and there really is no long-term plan.

Too bad too. Given that Infinite Warfare failed to stick the landing and now Activision is implying they're going back to 'classic' COD, there was a HUGE opening for TitanFall 2 to be THE futuristic high-mobility multiplayer shooter.

For you PS4 players, the Collective Minds Strike Pack will be available again soon.

I bought a used version two weeks ago and I highly recommend it. In a game like this where mobility and having access to most of your buttons at all times is very important I think this is a very helpful accessory. Plus it's far cheaper than buying a custom controller since everybody already has a stock controller that they can snap this on.

I only wish that I would have learned about it sooner. I would've preferred learning how to use this with the default button layout but I'm way too use to the Evolve button layout now. It will be a pain if I play another shooter and have to relearn the old button layout that most shooters use these days.

Agreed. This is probably the best addition that I have purchased for PS4, I originally only used it for TF|2, but using it in Dark Souls and Nioh is extremely nice.

I wouldn't say the vortex splash bug is "situational", it basically renders legion completely useless and vulnerable, which 100% shouldn't be the case.

Yeah, the fact that its taking forever to get balance patches, and the fact that they are going the wrong way or are completely off is not encouraging.

I would love for Respawn to explain how Legion/Ion works. By all means, please explain how Legion wins that matchup unless the Ion is severely brain damaged. Luckily, most people in matchmaking are so you can still run rampant through them, but encountering a single competent Ion drains every bit of joy from the game. You can do literally nothing. In team fights, you just have to sit there. One on one, you just slowly try to lumber away, but you're so big and the Titan movement in this is so goddamn slow, you're not going to get away and are getting shredded by pilots during that time as well. It's just profoundly fucking stupid. Even employing feints and such, you're not getting past the shield of a good Ion, especially when they're running the kit that restores energy on crits.

I don't play Legion, but presumably your should is supposed to counter whatever ammo he sends back at you. But I don't play Legion/Scorch because they're lumbering hulks.

Ronin is Tone's hard counter. Just remember to block.

Ronin isn't a hard counter though IMO. I definitely win most fights against Tone, but I end up with barely any HP.

Phase shifting through the missiles and blocking the 40mm work nicely, but Ronin doesn't really have to HP to deal with more than one of those fights.
