When it's all said and done, I believe PS4 will be my favorite PlayStation, which is saying something considering I wasn't feeling it at all for the first two years or so.
One of the main reasons I cancelled my Switch preorder. I have way too many games to play and not enough time. Switch will have to wait which I'm also excited for.
Seeing how fast PS4 passed Super Nintendo in just 3 years really put things in perspective for the people who was kids at the time SNES was out because it seemed like everyone had one if they was into playing games. even Gamecube & N64 seemed a lot bigger back then now the numbers seem small because of how much the PS4 has sold in so little time.
I think 3rd parties are going to enjoy the success of the PS4 & try to push out as many games as they can before the well run dry.

Same - Nintendo's gone for a soft launch and all power to them, but I'm not gonna jump in knowing so little. If in eighteen month's time things are looking peachy, I'll probably jump and I'll get an infinitely sweeter deal than I would at launch.
I got mine on January and I have already beaten the whole Uncharted series (finally), Ratchet & Clank PS4, Bloodborne, and currently playing The Last Guardian and Dragon Quest: Builders. It's a totally different feeling for me than with PS3, which I really didn't like that much for some reason.
It's funny seeing this post right now. I was just now looking on my shelves and noticed all the PS3 games I have that I bought during sales and markdowns that are still UNOPENED and wrapped in plastic. I know there's a lot of people here who have said their Wii U was collecting dust and they were all in on PS3/4, but I've been the polar opposite. I've gone all in with Nintendo and have been quite satisfied. With my fulltime job however, I'm LUCKY if I can get 5 hours a week, so I'm really hesitant on adding another Non-Nintendo system to my rotation.
But when you say the PS4 is BETTER than the PS3, it makes me think, maybe it's not just me...
It's crazy how much better the PS4's library is than the XBOX One's. And I don't think anyone has even mentioned Danganronpa V3 and Ni No Kuni II which are both coming out later this year. Hopefully another triple A exclusive comes out before the end of the year as well (my bet is on Days Gone and/or Detroit; Spider Man and God of War seem like 2018 games to me).
PS4 has been worth the purchase ever since Bloodborne came out. Now it's my number one played system despite having a PC, Wii U, 3DS, and Vita. And when Persona 5 comes out, oooh boy.
Nah. I've owned it since launch but, until Yakuza 0, Grav Rush 2 and Resi 7, its existence was basically justified by Bloodborne to me. Until dawn was decent too, I guess...
Once Persona 5 and Nier release I'm going to have to think real hard about it being one of my all time fave consoles.
Yes. Last year I wouldn't have said it was a big gap but we just got 3 games that all delivered amazing experiences which aren't on Xbox. Plus Resi Evil 7 on VR is my jam

Yeah, the library is good now. The lesson learned is to wait three years after the ps5 comes out before we buy it. (Which really we should do for all consoles)

Agreed. As a single-player kind of guy I'm in love with the PS4 right now.
And it's ridiculously future-proofed for years to come: Horizon, TLoU pt2, GoW, Spider-Man, Death Stranding, Days Gone, UC: Lost Legacy, Detroit, Shenmue III, etc...
I own over 65 physical PS4 games and I'm not saying the library was thin, just that none of those games were more than throw away experiences or ports/remasters that were slightly improved on PS4. Bloodborne being an exception.
It was a library that would, until now, have been remembered for very little.
So I see a lot of people happy that there are a lot of ps4 exclusives, but I'm curious, do the games have to be exclusive to be worth it to you? Does having something that other platforms can't have just make you fell better?
So I understand why exclusIves exist and I'm not going to complain about that, but at the end of the day I just see it as less choice for the consumer.
I prefer the originality and risks taken in most exclusives rather than the design by numbers of most AAA games. I'm a guy who used to love the big multiplats, but i can barely stand them nowadays. The majority play too similar for me.
I'm sick of cod, battlefield, Ubisoft open worlds, etc.

100% agree with OP. Xbox was my go to system all gen because of more apps, 360 BC, exclusives (Sunset + Forza), Live, and elite controller.
Now with the Pro, PS4 gets the prize.
Nioh is my favorite game of this gen (I lose sleep over the challenges). Went back to Bloodborne recently after being scared of it for 2 years, and really enjoying it. Yakuza 0, another top 10 game. Performance horsepower on RE7, FFXV, TLOU Remastered.
Then smaller hits like FFX remastered and Puyo Puyo Tetris.
Nioh and Yakuza alone are classics IMO.
Bloodborne too if I wasnt so bad at it
Hoping Insomniacs Spiderman game resembles Sunset Overdrive. Nier Automata looks incredible too.
Said it before, I'll say it again. The exclusive lineup the PS4 is boasting is legitimately making me regret buying an Xbox more and more with every new release.
Well, it would have saved you more than that. You can scoop up stuff like blood borne, last of us and infamous second son for under $20. On Black Friday new ps4's were $250 and came with uncharted 4. I bought a PS4 in 2013 and I didn't play a ton on it for a while. Happy with where things are now.
Agreed. It's given me more games than the previous ones did halfway through the generation. It's provided a triumphant return of horror, delivered many quality indies, and introduced me to Souls series with Bloodborne. PS2 had Silent Hill 2+3 to its merit though.
The first year was a bit rough, as expected, but last year and the start of this one were amazing, I can't find time to get through my games and my backlog increases each month. The variety and quality of games is really good and we're two months away from persona 5, what else can you ask.
Not bad, but I feel like we're still missing a lot of games people have been clamoring for for years, like The Yakuza Ultimate Collection, Trails of Cold Steel Collection and an action rpg Shin Megami Tensei.
Yeah, I already like the PS4 more from a games POV that I did the PS3, and I feel like the PS4 is only this year firing on all cylinders and has a lot of life left. Some of that is probably due to many more interesting Japanese games coming out for it than on the PS3, but it's also a bit more well-rounded from a genre perspective.
The PS3 still beats it as a media player though. And uh...backwards compatibility. :/
It's a matter of taste, obviously, but as a fan of Japanese games, for me the answer is a definite yes, and 2017 is a perfect example of that. I have The Last Guardian, Gravity Rush 2 and Yakuza 0 already, and Nier: Automata as well as Persona 5 are in-bound. When I throw in Horizon Zero Dawn next week, as well as PS VR games like Psychonauts: The Rhombus of Ruin, Until Dawn: Rush of Blood, the RE7 exclusive VR mode, and similar for Ace Combat 7, I have too many games to play, and that's not counting the big multi-platform titles, like Mass Effect: Andromeda.
I like the occasional FPS, but it's never been a favorite genre of mine, and the same goes with third person shooters, and driving games so the typical Xbox trifecta of Halo/Gears/Forza isn't enough to pull me in, especially when the PS4 already has games like that in addition to the aforementioned crazy Japanese games I enjoy so much.
PS4 was definitely selling on past hype and other companies failings, but it was pretty obvious it would end up better than the Xbox One because we knew it was stronger for a similar price and Sony's strength of first party studios.
Although, I dont think it's comparable to other systems in terms of classic games yet. Third Party games this generation also havent hit their stride yet, but soon enough.
Oh my goodness yes. While the Xone has a few exclusives, I find that they don't compare to the incredible coverage on the PS4. It took a while, but the system finally has quite a diverse library of interesting games.
Yup, for sure. First two years of this gen (on each platform imo), were pretty dire & dull compared to what we got last gen. Now it's definitely my favorite library of games this gen, & this year as a whole is a powerhouse. To think we're only two months into the year as well, can't wait.
Great system and great Library. My entire library is PS4 exclusives and I love them all. My XBOX one and its exclusives outside of Killer Instinct just disgusts me. It is basically just my NBA 2K player these days.
Me too. I honestly didn't realize how much I missed them, but man, aside from Nintendo I barely played Japanese games last gen. It feels like a breath of fresh air now.
Yeah, we got some good stuff prior to that but once that hit it became consistent and now it's really firing on all cylinders and this onslaught in end 2016/early 2017 is really filling it out even further.
The PS4 is definitely quite a turn around from PS3 launch. It's definitely the true successor for the PS2 and it shows in how it's dominating the market.
