Just for kicks I checked out old Pixel prices. The 2013 model is down to mid-$300 range on amazon. That's not bad. About $100 off the Plus.

The appeal of a chromebook to me is that they're budget barebones laptops. As a student, the chromebooks priced below $200 are the only ones even worth considering for purchase.

To each their own. To me it is the light OS and lack of Windows updates/bloat. Will gladly pay $450 for a nicer machine. :)

I considered this but i would imagine the touch latency and sensitivity for multi touch gestures is improved on the samsung

The touch screen seems very important to me given that I am expecting to use apps from the play store. I am willing to be that many dont translate well to mouse/kb.

I am just a little annoyed they went with eMMC given that this seems to be the vanguard device for the fleet of next gen chromebooks., unless google is launching their own machine at I/O in June.

I'm with you. The stylus features are a selling point for me. The Pixel remains a compelling option for those who are okay with a more typical Chromebook experience.

Don't see any real reason that Android apps on a bigger screen is much of a selling point

I'd be buying for the Chromebook, in which case there are cheaper and still good options.

What app support does, and makes it a game changer is fill the gaps. Chrome and chrome OS is fine for Netflix, Spotify as it....But for example...Chrome os has no version of Skype avail for video chat....I installed the beta play store on my mums R13 ...And Android Skype is full screen and fantastic. So yeh....What Android app support does is basically kill any downside to using chrome OS from a support standpoint.

Holy damn! I'd only seen the announcement title and assumed it was gonna be priced close to the Pixel. At that price it's a bargain. Really hope it comes to the UK.

Super, super tempted to buy this to replace my Chromebook Flip. I've always wanted a (relatively) inexpensive laptop I could use for digital art, and this looks like the perfect option for me.

Any reason to wait for the Pro Core M3 version over the Plus and its ARM processor? How much of a difference is there between the two processors?

I could probably afford to wait and spend $100 more. I jumped on the 2GB Flip and wound up kicking myself for it not long after, since that's not nearly enough memory. If a slower processor means more lag in drawing, maybe I'll wait for the Pro.

I'd like to know this as well.

so close to preordering the plus right now lol. so far i've seen positive stuff about it. but i'm going to check best buy if they got an demo units so i can try it out.

I got a toshiba chromebook a couple years ago for about 200. I like it more than a tablet for looking up recipes in the kitchen, taking to protests and shit. my workstation laptop has terrible battery life, so the chromebook is handy. This looks like a nice upgrade.

So we have the Samsung Plus, the Asus C302CA.. any other premium chromebooks out? I am trying to decide between the two.. Both have their own positives and negatives. Samsung should have a better screen and the S-Pen, but has a slower processor and the backspace button is super small.. The C302CA has a better (backlit) keyboard, better processor, but it is also more expensive.

Any reviews hit yet?

Been really interested in seeing this in action since the announcement.

The plus only has like a 10k octane score, compared to the 20k of the M3 model (Pro or Asus C302CA). That, plus the non-lit keyboard and small backspace key kind of worries me. I don't know how much that octane score would affect day to day usage though. 10k might be more than enough for my usage, but I have never owned a chromebook before and am really wanting to jump in the market for one.

Can they run Steam (for streaming games from a real computer)? Is the Creative Suite available on them?

No and no.

You get a web browser (and a few simple utilities, like offline MP3 playback and a notepad program). On this device and a select few other Chromebooks, you also run some/most Android (phone) apps. That's it.

Chromebooks are generally only worth considering if you live in the browser.

just ordered the asus chromebook since BB updated and made it in stock. should be here wednesday. excited. hopefully i don't return this chromebook like the last one i got lol.

i may as well put the google storage to use.

just got the asus c302ca. taking it for a test drive. the keyboard is really nice. spaced out and doesn't even feel cramped.

might try out the beta channel just to test out the play store.

Gonna find me a multiport adapter as well. it's nice to know usb-c can output audio/video and still act as a charting port for the device and others.

respect to the verge for the approch they took with this ... seems both devices where made avail to the reviewers but only the plus is really ready for review.

the intel chip is not playing nice with android atm.

the plus is the only thing they should be reviewing with it in a good state and actually the one out today..

i was leaning towards the pro, but on reflection, plus might suit me anyways.

Got my mother one of the Samsung Chromebook Plus today at Best Buy. Very impressed with it for the price. Good build quality.

I was going to get her a Surface Pro since her old laptop was dying and I was trying to find her a light PC/Tablet (she skypes a lot), but then I saw this in store. All she does is browse the net and go on skype, so this is plenty powerful enough for her. Hopefully she likes it.

still waiting on the chromebook pro to get a release date. any news about when that could be? I couldn't find anything.

So I was looking into this Chromebook again. I can't seem to find the Plus for sale anywhere in Canada but was interested enough to read a bunch of stuff.

Has anyone read this weird article on the Verge? Apparently the ARM "OP1" CPU is just a weird branding from Google to hide the b-tier ARM manufacturers like Rockchip from the spec sheet. It sounds like the CPU in the Plus is actually pretty good and is one of these OP1-compliant chips, but it's just bizarre the way they're handling this.

I almost pulled the trigger on the Chrombook Plus today. I will wait for a sale though. At $350, it is a no-brainer, but $450 makes me pause.

Best Buy has a deal for basically $100 off the regular price if you trade in any working laptop. So even if its old as long as it is something they can manually put in it should work as it did for me. The deal is basically they will give you at least 50 for your trade plus a coupon for 50% off.

Do you have a link for this? I'd be interested in this deal. :)

Also, amazing reviews have been pretty mixed. Makes me a bit nervous.

My patience with Google has expired, was holding off getting my next laptop hoping this would be available in Canada without me jumping though hoops to get it as it looks great.

To date, they sell a whopping 5 Chromebooks (all old) from their Canadian store.

Loved my Chromebox and older chromebook but it's clear they will remain US centric for a while to come

Is it not on Samsung's site?
