I only have regular arrows, and my ropes don't seem to affect him at all? I've managed to get one disc launcher off and get him down to one third health twice, but he always bests me. Looks like it's just going to take an extraordinary run of luck in. Dodging his attacks. Sometimes I can dodge them seemingly easy, and other times he will lunge at me and get 3-5 attacks on me chained together.. hard. But I'm going to give it a few more tries before reverting.

You need the shadow rope caster to tie down the big machines. Maybe the blue one could also work, not sure though.

What weapons should I actually buy? Weapons that I wouldn't get just playing or can be easily obtained without paying?

Right now I don't even have a war bow and all my current weapons are blue. I'm thinking a Shadow Hunter bow? Plus I want to buy outfits but can only afford one big purchase.

Finished the two Rockbreaker area. Ended up running across the river and corrupting a bunch of stuff to aid in the fight. Thing took down two Behemoths in the process.

Right, so hitting parts (armour) that glow blue when hit are armour parts, and once those parts are gone you cause more damage if you hit that same area?

Tear damage basically increases the removal of these parts? and the normal damage stat (arrowhead pointing down) only really damages non armoured parts?

is it possible to aim between the armour plates with normal arrows?

That's right. The idea is to use year to rip off armour and then attack unarmored areas.

But there are also components to remove which damage enemies when taken off. So tearblast arrows can do significant damage just by shooting stuff off.

If you can hit exposed areas you'll do good damage with normal arrows. A Strider's hind quarters for example.

Played for an extended period of time after having it sit on the shelf since launch week.
Really loving it, I wish the save system were a little more forgiving through.

The only weapons that are found/a reward are hunting lodge related, so you're better off buying purple stuff in the interim. On the hardest difficulty I find the hunter, war and precision bows and the rope caster are invaluable. If you don't have enough flexibility with mods, the elemental damage sling is alright, I used it early to mid game a bit. The rest is for flavor.

And I spent like 90% of the game in a stealth outfit.

Shadow hunter bow. And the shadow sniper bow (forgot the name) are a must.

Also heavy armor.

The sound Longlegs make with their sound/air blast is so damn cool I just keep finding them to fight to hear it. And to steal their precious echo canisters.

I just climbed on top of the rock structure in that area and fired arrows up from where they couldn't get me. Sure they hit me with rocks but those never knocked me off of my safe spot, and I had the shield weaver armor to negate the damage.

First and foremost, turn on your focus and paint the enemy with it. This will highlight all of the weapons and weak points. You can then go to a menu to see what flavor of vulnerability they are, at least until you learn to differentiate by sight. Fire, ice and shock canisters, sacks of flammable stuff etc. Hit those with elemental damage, it won't do much straight damage, but it will stagger the enemy and set off giant explosions. Taking a quarter health from an entire pack with one shot is pretty cool. Additionally, there may be weak points, usually weak to straight damage, that will only be exposed at certain times. Just have to watch for those, stuff like exhaust ports opening.

All of the other stuff that lights up with the focus are the machine's various weapons. Soak that with tear damage, it will take away their abilities and when a part goes flying off it does a considerable amount of straight damage as well.

Finally, some machines are weak to some elemental damage in general, you don't have to aim for canisters. The way elemental damage works in this game is there's a limit you have to hit, soak them enough with a type of damage and it will zap, freeze, or set them on fire. So, it's not so much pecking away with fire arrows, but dealing a lot of fire damage quickly.

I like how everybody has their own ways for taking stuff out. Makes everybody's experience unique, which is key to this game in my opinion.

Guys help I'm doing the
final mission and the machines just keep on coming... A'm i doing something wrong... Fighting now a corrupted Storm bird

Most feels like there no end

this game is obviously some type of black magic because this game can't possibly look as good as it does on my launch PS4.

my brain melts at the thought of PS4Pro + 4K.

Posted this in another thread but I really wish we got to see more herd like behaviors from the machines, especially the Tallnecks. This is just fucking cool.

I read that GG didn't do this at first because of framerate concerns, but they were able to address the issue.

The Tallnecks hold a specific purpose in the world, so to see a few of them roaming in the same place would defeat their existence, no?

Are these late game only? None of the vendors I'm find have any above just basic blue versions of the bows.

I'm only in the first two areas, though. About to head through the Carja gate.

Just met with the
Sun King
and spent minutes just admiring the environment and wonderfully chill music up there...

Edit:...and a sunrise overlooking waterfalls.

I think a good workaround would be for every Tallneck group/heard/couple there is an "Alpha Tallneck" that's doing the actual transmitting that requires overriding.

This game has been a huge surprise to me, they really killed it. The combination of depth, story-telling and open-world feel with the high quality visuals is amazing -- GOTY so far for me.

Woohoo, I hit level 50 hah. On my way to
Maker's End
with the other story threads in that region already tied off. I assume the remaining upgrades I can't afford, I will get enough skill points off story mission now to mop those up?

Well, depending how long you adventure, it could be awhile, but not late game, no. Once you arrive at Meridian, they are easily accessed at Vendors :)

herds could be public events of some kind. several npcs refer to "missing the herd" and maybe if they expand on that to have these herd moments, the tallneck can appear more and serve an additional purpose. maybe you cant necessarily climb on it at those times, but they broadcast some kind of signal that affects nearby machines

Holy shit do things pick up after Meridian. If my 25+ hours of "procrastination" weren't so fun I might've regretted not heading there sooner. What a great game.

yeah, but damn would it look cool though.

Oh it looks incredible.

I could see that.

That's an interesting suggestion.

Got the platinum after doing the collectibles.

I really wish there was a way to replay some of the previous missions with the god mode armor and staff though. Oh well.

No, I wish there was.

I actually kind of like going to a settlement just to see what's there and just discovering on your own if there are new side quests, rather than the game just telling you 'here's all the side quests' on the map. Having said that, I wouldn't mind if after beating the main story if the game put all the exclamation marks on the map so you can wrap up any side quests you missed. I haven't finished the game yet so I don't have any idea how it handles going back to uncompleted quests, but that's just something I'd appreciate if more games did (or at least have that as an option).

Not much of a spoiler, but you get dumped back into the game before the final mission. But there are several towns you just never have to visit, so you can miss quite a few quests. There's also a couple of quests that are just randomly peppered on some of the roads, which you might never use once you get fast travel.

Did anybody else find the three easter egg
Kojima Productions items? I only found a Stranded Shackles and a Stranded Baby, didn't find the third but they mentioned selling them to a special merchant for a reward?

Vanasha, goddamn what an NPC. If this were a Bioware RPG she would have been one of the core followers. HZD could have used much, much more of this character.

Yeah, like the other collectibles one of the merchants will give you a box. I only found two of the pieces though.
