Survivor 34: Game Changers |OT| We Have To Go Back

I'm sensing that the "big name" cast members are going to have a hard time this season. The threat level of players like Sandra, Cerie, Ozzy, JT, Malcolm, stands out in a season with nobodies like Hali, Sierra, Troyzan, Sarah, Debbie. Like seriously, I've seen every episode of Survivor and I have no idea who Hali and Sierra are. Not one memory of them from their season. I can't see either of them ever being a concerning target for anyone. The other 3 nobodies I remember as complete idiots, so there is that lol

Based on WA, Sierra could make a deep run on nearly every season. She's fit enough that she'll be likely to survive early tribe disaster but not crazy good at challenges to be a threat. She's loyal. And she doesn't make waves. At all. Even when presented with the opportunity over and over. She might not ever be capable of winning, but if she doesn't at least make top 8, I'd be surprised.
She might be capable of winning if she can own some game moves towards the end of the game. And then not completely flub her final tribal council campaign the way someone with a similar skill set like Amanda Kimmel does.

That's certainly a way how, it's just that what we've seen of Sierra doesn't illustrate her as particularly willing to make moves past being a loyal number. That could absolutely change, we just haven't see it yet. It's a bit different versus somebody like Wentworth who was barely present in her initial season (and also had the BvW thing to deal with). We didn't see a lot of Wentworth. But Sierra made a long run where she seemed to actively avoid making moves.

Finally caught up with the episodes.

The season premiere was another way to remind myself to unfollow those Survivor contestants on Twitter...saw Tony's tweet about getting voted out even before I managed to watch the episode..whoops! At least he's second vote and not first vote like"OMG SHE VOTED OUT HER MOM!" Ciera.

JT seems like a shadow of his former self and I'm personally hoping for Malcolm to last for a bit. Dude's decent.

Not too sure I ever want to see Colby back on Survivor. He was a complete wreck in Heroes vs Villians and completely gave up at the end, throwing himself out of challenges early so that people can think of him as a weak contestant so that he can just coast on by for his top 5 finish.

Oh God, we were THIS close to the spy bunker being used for real! I was hoping that they'd show a night vision shot of Tony half-buried in the ground while Sandra and Troyzan spoke near the well, all in the same shot. I think I would have died laughing.

I would have loved to see Tony take out Sandra. She's annoying at best and he has loads of entertainment value. There's no way he would win, but I would have liked to see him last a lot longer.

The first in a series of Edgic Analysis articles by InsideSurvivor.com is up and worth reading for anyone who wants a spoiler free look at what the edit is trying to tell us from last week's two hour premiere.

For those who've never heard of it, Edgic is a term Survivor fans use to discern how players are being painted by production in an attempt to read into themes and a player's chances of making it to the end and winning. Edgic = The Edit + Logic.

Yeah, for the love of god, no edgic discussion in here. It completely ruins the fun and suspense. Go to Reddit if you want to be spoiled.

I hate the edit talk. It always vastly changes throughout the season so I give no credence to that kind of talk.

Hasn't the "Winner's Edit" always been a main bit of discussion around here?
or it was at least till I missed the last few seasons.
Though there was a couple seasons before that where the Winner's Edit was extremely blatant particularly starting with Boston Rob's win.

Edit: holy shit I was immediately not feeling Australian Survivor for the first 15 minutes but immediately won over in the next 15.
Camera crew and the host need a lot of work though.

Yeah, host seems a bit awkward at the beginning, but he adapts fast. I don't remember seeing anything off about the camera work. In any case, enjoy it, is quite a ride of a season.

BTW, do we have any dates for season 2?

Thanks.

My problem with the camera work is really something I don't even notice mostly on the American series.
Angles and zoom/wideshot/etc.
There were a bunch of camp scenes with someone doing something while the camera felt like 4:3 and super zoomed in.
Also when Des is being lazy in the water while everyone is working at camp nearly in the background it cuts 90% off.

Im really enjoying it though because mane it feels like decent screen time is going around.

Just saw the premiere. Next episode better show a flashback that explains why/how everyone voted the way they did. Not even Tony voted for Sandra.

Also...why is Caleb here? I haven't watched his season, but they kept emphasizing how this cast is filled with ~game changers~ who made massive moves and it sounds like he ended up leaving before he could even get the chance to make one. He seems just as annoying as he was on Big Brother.

The theme of the season exists because their original plans fell through.

The Tony boot was apparently just a classic case of the show having to make a foregone conclusion more dramatic. Nobody was all that interested in going out on a limb for Tony.

What was the original theme?

There was a rumor for awhile that other themes were considered before Game Changers, but the Survivor leaker, Redmond, recently confirmed that Game Changers was always the plan.

Season 34 was NEVER intended to be Champions vs. Challengers nor Winners vs. Jury vs. Pre-Jury (although we knew the latter was never the case). By the end of January, when SEG casting first started calling castaways, the theme was already confirmed internally to be Survivor: Game Changers. There was no deviating from that plan, no discussion of a tribe of winners etc. Game Changers was always Game Changers.

After what happened with Kelly Wentworth and Parvati (and probably others from earlier seasons), I refuse to ask why they bring anyone back. Hopefully some of these more questionable returnees surprise us!

Oh, that's interesting. Part of the cast seemed to be called last minute, though.

Yeah, I have to agree, there is actually some amazing players that are just one and done, in terms of, coming to the game with a huge target and probably, unable to deliver at all.

The problem with the quiet or discrete players is that, there is a risk that they would do the same thing again.

As much as I love eating meat I don't think I could kill or eat either one of them.
Yeah, I was shaking my head hoping they wouldn't do it. I think my feelings are heightened because I recently watched what Skupin did in Australia.

No one cares about the chickens however.

Well, except Tai.

I didn't think they'd switch over to the chickens. They lived there as pets for a while so I assumed they'd be okay. Guess they are willing because the chickens don't have chicks following them around.

Didn't see that. Is that a person who killed an animal while there?
