NieR: Automata Spoiler Thread

Every time someone mentions "Oh the cycle will begin again" I just want to reach through the internet, put a finger to their lips, and say:

"Shhhhhhhh... No no no. Bad."

There isn't a bunker or YoRHa for them to fight for anymore, so they've got to move on from here... right?

Let them be happy.

It sounds obvious, I just wonder about the hair thing. She wasn't damaged in her head or anything that required replacement so I thought maybe she never died in the first place and she was simply sitting in the window weirdly. lol
She got crushed when the tower collapsed - and as she fell she was telling her old comrades that she'd be joining them soon, so I think it's safe to say she died in ending C.

I think the hair thing is mostly to symbolize that she is no longer carrying 2B's memories inside of her.

Weiss himself was a product of mad science. The line between science and magic is extremely thin in Yoko Taro's Wild Ride.

God, reading all the Project Gestalt stuff in this and now hearing about Drakengard's crazy shit makes me wish those games didn't look horrible to play. I'm a Platinum fan first, don't think I can bear to play a game like this without dodge cancels and air combos, haah.

I think he just does it to cover his ass when it comes to continuity errors and so he doesn't feel completely bound to his previous works. Regardless of what Taro says, ending D of D3 eventually reaches a point where Caim does battle with the Queen Beast in my mind. There may be differences in the details of those worlds, but the spirit of them remains the same.

To me, both endings A and D of Drakengard 3 pretty much lead to Drakengard 1, with A sort of explaining how the Cult of the Watchers began (no way was Brother One's appearance in that ending a coincidence), and D explaining the Queen Beast. Since the Flower (which somehow becomes the Queen Beast) gets sealed away in another dimension, I don't see why it couldn't theoretically affect any timeline it chose. Though with the near infinite amount of timelines and possibilities, anything can really happen in a Yoko Taro game.

On the topic of Drakengard, I'd love to have another game that follows Drakengard 1, after either Ending D or E. I'd love to see what becomes of that world.

So what happened to magic in this world? Devola and Popola were able to use it back in Nier, wouldn't D and P of Automata able to use them too since they are the same model? But all they did were martial arts and stuff.

The pain of Nier's combat is overstated. It's rough, and simple, but it gets the job done.

Plus the boss fights are amazing.

Good points, and I want to see that too. I really like the idea of exploring ending D, but I'm also curious how Nier's Drakenworld is holding up.

I do wonder if we get another Nier now. Doing another massive timeskip and seeing what became of the PODs' plans could be very interesting.

Eh, fair enough, but I think the moment has passed now I've played Automata (I already read up on Nier 1's plot, haha).

Seriously, Nier is not that bad to play. Plus all those neat pod programs one gets to play with in Automata such as Hammer and Spear are similarly entertaining to use as their original magic incarnations in Nier.

Maso still exists.

However, all of the memories of that time were erased from their models, so there would be no way they would know how to utilize it in the first place.

I'm missing half of the novels and I can't find them. I know they have something to do with Anemone, but no dice. Anyone find them?

Did you examine the terminal behind her with A2? She makes a mention to them and the camera pans over, but I think it's easy to miss.

Also interesting trivia - but that segment covers the events depicted in the live action $20-budget stage play.

Drakengard 1 is a slog in the most beautiful and comical way. It's so stupid and audacious but requires a certain mood and level of patience to put up with it.

Definitely listen to the soundtrack. It's as if it was created by Amdusias himself.

Nier is very playable today. Definitely give it a shot.

Can someone in a short answer explain what happened in Drakengard that triggered it all?

Somehow the protag, his dragon buddy and the antagonist showed up in Modern Day Tokyo during their final battle. The end result causes a ripple effect into the events of NieR Replicant/Gestalt.

Just read through the YoRHa stage play and holy shit were people so right when they said it would likely spoil the game. All I want to say is I hate how it suggests that A2 was given Kaine's memories. I mean, Kaine is my favourite character from Nier and A2 is probably my favourite from Automata as well but having them be related just doesn't sit right with me. Let A2 be her own person you know.

Well when you consider what Emil shouts out during his secret boss battle

It does not explain. I've been watching some lore videos and I get there was a plague that would either turn people into salt or shade and that was the action of a god offended by something. Humanity tried its best to control the plague but eventually failed. Then someone came up with some kind of an avatar project to separate souls from body and stock these souls safely. The plan worked and the plague was stalled. Then a thousand year pass, Nier Starts, a bunch of things happens but nothing really changes. Aliens come out of nowhere with an army of robots that wiped everyone except a few that fled to the moon.

What happened in Drakengard that triggered it all and what are the aliens doing in this plot is still a mystery.

The plague that lead to Nier and, eventually, humanity extinction is because of Drakengard ending E. The origin of the plague is the last boss and the rests of the protagonist

It does kind of explain just briefly. At the end of one of the Drakengard endings the boss and the protagonist enter into our world's Tokyo in the early 2000s. They all get killed and this is the origin of the plague. A substance called Maso gets into the atmosphere and spreads the White Chlorination Syndrome.

The events of Nier end with all humanity being doomed to extinction due to the death of the original Gestalt, the Shadowlord, at the hands of his Replicant counterpart, Nier. By the time the aliens attack, humans are already gone. They never fled to the Moon - the Twins Devola and Popola uploaded the remnants of the Replicant data and beamed it up to the Moon. Humans being on the Moon was a lie that was created to stop the remaining Androids from losing the morale and purpose, as they are programmed with the sole purpose of aiding humanity.

Now I get that. Humanity doomed itself by killing the man and the dragon who had just saved them.

iirc, the godsalt from the crumbling monster is what doomed the world. Killing the dragon allowed them to reverse engineer magic and weaponize it in their fight against the zombie hordes created by the godsalt.

Plus, it's probably just as well since Caim was a mass murdering psychopath who probably would have ended up going on a rampage anyway.

In my head Caim is red eye so he did go on that rampage.

Nier prequel please for the love of fucking god

So what was up with the zombie robots in the amusement park in 3rd playthrough?
Infected with the "logic virus" that's YorHa was at the start of Route C. You can tell from the red eyes - possibly related to White Chlorination/The Legion/Red Eye?

Mine too.

The choice comes down to "zombie Caim who is really angry about losing his bff/dragonwife and has an army of zombies" or "weaponmaster Caim who is riding a magical flying beast with untold destructive potential from time immemorial".

Kind of a damned if you do, damned if you don't scenario.

Regardless, the YorHa play directly links A2 and Kaine and there's enough references to the play in the game to consider it canon aren't there?

Yeah probably.

I still think it's safe to say that the QB is Zero, because of time-space fuckery.

I thought their commonalities could be chalked up to the flower being a Watcher creation and/or a Queen-Beast vessel or something. Although playable Queen-Beast does seem like a thing that would happen.

I thought I was done with this game after getting all the main endings but all I can think about is getting off work to go home and play more.

Until the androids on the moon decides to make new Yorha models and bunker.

Probably create new devola and pepola team too to continue its suffering.

That's true, but does that mean that the QB is someone else? Or is it a woman just because reasons?

That would be amazing. I was thinking the other day what a natural evolution it would be to have the next game make you play as the antagonists. Either outright, or on route B.

You're even annoyingly forced into walking when you're in there, just like in Nier!

This game is incredible. So much attention to detail. I completed it ~12 hours ago and I just feel so empty, I can't think of anything else, lol.

Same boat, the longer I go without playing or watching something, the worse I think it's going to get. This game was just incredible.

Go play mass effect, I'm sure it'll be really thematic and deep with a great narrative and memorable characters to scratch that itch....

Lol

Well, you could go with Ending C. Where Jackass finds out about everything after the collapse of the Tower and vows to kill everyone responsible because the entire setup is offensively stupid.
