That 1st amendment takes the cake though.

"White supremacy is just an opinion, why are you afraid of your kids having a different opinion?" Seems to be the desperate defense that Twitter folks are trying to push.

The first amendment means I can say and do whatever I want wherever and whenever and to whoever for whatever reasons ever right? And if you don't like what I say then you're breaking the law and I can sue you because you said or did something that I don't like.

Yes apparently to YouTube education standards

Oh yes, because obviously just having a guy do voices for your game means you endorse all of their views. Christ, the lengths companies think they need to go to make everybody "comfortable".
... Is this a joke? It's not about endorsing their views. It's about condoning it. By not taking a stand against it, it'll spread.

Crossing Eden

Hello, my name is Yves Guillemot, Vivendi S.A.'s Employee of the Month!
I agree with you that their ideas are abhorrent and that they should face consequences as JonTron did. I don't agree with you that stripping away their rights is an appropriate solution. I've seen applause and advocacy for violence against these people on these very forums, and it saddens me deeply. Any company has a right to hire who they'd like to hire and if they want to exclude a known racist I can't fault them, and the instant an employee even hints at doing something improper to a customer, coworker, anyone they should be axed. But barring people from the job market altogether? Advocating violence? That reeks of the sort of extremism that I hate from the other side. I really would like to see my own side held to a higher standard than that.
Considering the state of the country I think it's a bit late for the "so much for the tolerant left" rhetoric.

I was focusing on how the guy was answering "yes" to "Should a Professor teaching a Holocaust course be allowed to keep his job when he denies the Holocaust even happened?" and "Can a homophobic therapist still have a job after his gay client is recommended to a "Pray away the gay" camp?" bit but okay.
Yeah, sorry man, I totally misread what you said. I went back and edited my post after I reread. I'm an idiot.

If I were a game developer and found out someone involved on the project were a genocidal monster I'd want to remove them no matter how inconsequental their work was. I'd want to be informed of this, and would erase that person's involement as thoroughly as possible. I wouldn't do this just to make people "comfortable" like some of you anti-pc idiots would think, I'd do it because I'm an ethical human being.

Ugh, I feel for all of the more conservative folks whose ability to have rational and productive conversation is limited by this vocal minority or racists and bigots with an "all or nothing" mentality.

Those of us who may be a little more liberal skewed are in an environment where a lot of our opinions and validated and challenged respectfully, whereas people on the conservative front are being represented by clowns like JonTron and Trump.

If anyone's speech is being limited it's the level-headed conservatives... and the ones limited it aren't the "oversensitive PC" folks... it's people like JT who are creating such strong, negative associations.

Isn't he the guy who is always on GameXplain discussion videos? He never comes across as this vitriolic there.

He doesn't seem to appear there anymore. But yeah he always seems like a nice guy on the surface, but his tweets and livestreams where he shares his opinions make it clear he's a vile human being

Uh-oh. the Playtonic webpage seems to be down at the moment....

Hope that's not a sign of some sort of denial-of-service stuff.

We don't need random moron Twitter posts in here. If someone of significance in the industry has a hot take, fine, but don't go hunting out the dumbest shit you can find and giving it a megaphone.

No surprise that TheBitBlock doesn't approve

Joshisanidiot.png

Of course they wouldn't. I'd be surprised if anyone that got famous by being an unfiltered voice approved of what was happening because it puts more pressure on themselves to police their own actions.

It's been this way for a while but this Jontron stuff put a lot of people on notice when it comes to how you look to the world. This event is the first bit of media training a lot of these youtube people have gotten.

hahahahaha, this one is good.

The funniest part is I'm pretty sure they're brits

I feel really bad for Playtonic, who are now wrapped up in this mess because of Jontron. It was big of them to take a stance because they certainly don't need this so close to the game's launch.

Even in a cold cynical capitalist world , which alt right appears to love , it's good pr to burn him to the ground .... So it's still bye bitch.

My company my rules = " conduct detrimental to the company ".

Or Playtonic themselves could have just not been comfortable with a racist being associated with their game, and that really is the start and end of it. They can speak for themselves and don't need people putting words in their mouths. Don't need people like you to assume what their "real" motives are with this move.

Hmm i think i kind of understand where our disagreement comes from. Im of the opinion that playtonic doesnt actually care but they made this decision for financial reasons. This is why im questioning those who are letting johns inclusion detract from their enjoyment of the game. Imo Its unfair to the guys at playtonic.

It seems that you and many others are of the opinion that they are infact actively trying to promote some sort of ethical integrity outside of their games.

I hold my particular beliefs based on playtonics history. I've always known them not to let crude or fucked up shit bother them. Their games have never been known to be ethical goldmines. This is why i believe they are acting out of fear for being financially punished for something that isnt their responsibility.
It would be a shame if they did it out of fear rather than morality but either way, Jontron is out and thats good enough to me.

If that's all you can boil my argument down to I suppose we're done speaking. Just know that I'm on your side, I'm just not on the side of violence or the infringement of rights, even in the pursuit of the extremely noble cause you are championing and that I fight for. I hope you keep fighting the good fight and that the country will come out okay on the other side of these admittedly dark times.

His twitter consistently gives out hateful shit. I don't even know who he is and I've seen enough images of his shitty tweets to know the guy's a fucking idiot.

And he has largely terrific content and video game critiques. It's his right and choice to speak his mind and it's our right and choice to say "boi bye" and condemn those views and not watch him.

Simple.

Yeah, I'm sick of this. "Well if you really valued diversity, surely you'd include cannibals, nazis, and pedophiles, right?"

It's a disgusting perversion of what diversity means in order to claim victim status.

I'm saddened by how many young people in this country have no idea what the heck the 1st Amendment means. Free to speak, not free from consequences. Our education system sucks.

That's because it does. Republicans have constantly done everything they can to keep people dumb. They've time and time again voted against anything that will improve education or bring it to a larger group of people. This is intentional too. The easiest way to control someone is by keeping them uneducated. If they don't develop critical thinking skills or just learn history then they can't call you out on your bullshit. Hence why our education in this country is atrocious.

When I was in school you know we were taught our shit. We were held to standards. Now days our literacy rates are atrocious. Last facts I can find are these from 2013.

32 million adults in the U.S. can't read. That's 14 percent of the population. 21 percent of adults in the U.S. read below a 5th grade level, and 19 percent of high school graduates can't read.

Let that sink in for a moment. That is a fundamental failure of our system. Nobody should be illiterate much less 14 percent of our population. This is reading. How do you expect people to develop and learn and grow when they can't even read? This is why people don't even understand what the 1st amendment means.

As a former (non-american, non-white) JonTron fan, the last couple of months have been like a bad soap opera plot twist.

He went from funny, charismatic geek youtuber to full misogynistic, racist piece of shit in the blink of an eye.

Cool thing Playtonic removed him, any racist person profiting from global youtube views deserves the Hulk Hogan treatment.

weird. his inclusion wouldn't have affected my enjoyment of the game, and his exclusion won't either.

but I kind of enjoy seeing people flip flop between cancelling and renewing preorders XD

That's cool that it has no effect on you but my enjoyment of the game will be much higher now that I know he's going to be patched out.

I don't agree with what JonTron said but I think he's a good voice actor so this sucks, but I guess they had to protect themselves.
