The loss of Obamacare would be like a death sentence but they’d vote for Trump again

Among those cheering loudest when the Republican plan to remake the U.S. health-care system collapsed last week were some of Donald Trump's strongest supporters.
But she'd been desperately worried the president was actually set to keep his pledge to repeal and replace Obamacare. It's a system she and her husband Mike rely upon to survive.
Under Obamacare they're now given medicines worth roughly $6,000 US a month, about triple their gross monthly income.
If they were to lose their insurance, says Robin, "we'll have to sit and watch (Mike) smother to death, because we [won't] be able to afford to send him to the doctor.

"So it's watch him die."

As a Canadian with universal healthcare, this particular issue is not really relevant to me. But over the decades of voting I constantly look at each party platform and make my decision based on what is best for my family (as an example income splitting when my wife was at home with the kids).

I can't fathom how you would vote for the party that would be responsible for the death of yourself or your loved ones.

Is there explanation to this phenomenon?

Years of brainwashing by family and social circles growing up, leads them to shit like Fox News and they just get more and more entrenched.

Or maybe Nixon. I think Nixon was the first "modern" Republican presidency with all the stupidity that entailed.

For a lot of people, religion. A vote for democrats is a vote against God, since they don't trust his Plan (climate change, etc), want to kill babies by allowing abortion, support sinful and Godless lifestyles, and so on.

Dey took are jawbs!

Her emails!

All lives matter!

These people are fucking stupid and are why we can't move forward as a society in the US to make it better for everyone. They feel slighted because there are some of us who want to help the poor and protect the sick but because it requires everyone to contribute they think it's unfair.

It's a me first mentality that is also championed by Trump and that attracts all these idiots because they think he's going to make the US "fit their needs" better.

Well if they are so ingrained with self defeating policies, that's less republican votes in the future by way of survival.

I'm getting the ignorance argument for certain policies but as a human our base instinct is to survive, we do not want to die not matter what our intellect is.
I can't wrap my head around how you would give up your life for a cause that basically gives you nothing in return.

That's the price of freedom.

If the hateful and ignorant are signing their death warrants then its their prerogative. It's a shame that they are dragging the rest of the country down with them. As a Canadian, I just hope that we never give into the same bigotry, prejudices and lack of common sense (at least in majority).

sad but hilarious a somewhat flawed piece of legislation is such a scarlet letter. i'd accept the other side won and concessions need to be made but they can't even get obamacare lite out of the door.

enjoy the ditch you've dug

They wouldn't be against Obamacare if Obama were white.

They'd be less against it, but him being black was only the cherry on the hate cake. In the end he's still a Democrat and more importantly the Republic establishment and right wing "news sources" are always to tell their devoted masses that any health plan that's not "let's just let poor people die" is literally evil because of some ridiculous fake reason or another. DEATH PANELS

I'm pretty convinced many people are in fact not rational actors that work towards their own gain. Which hurts a lot of theories about how society is supposed to work.

Don't be that guy

When overwhelming white people vote for Republicans and Trump, because they offer racism in addition to fucking the poor over, when a overwhelming white White House is busy fucking them over, when the same happens in Europe, where rightwing parties are solely campaigning and gaining traction due to racism, while the program is "fuck the poor" in a nutshell....

When all these things are indeed happening, I can't shake off the feeling that we have a affinity to be really fucking stupid

Tribalism is powerful, OP.

That's likely your answer.

I think so, I just can't fathom the lengths what I would do to keep my family alive if they were sick and in the example I posted they just had to keep what was already in place.

It's crazy

"We rely on this to survive. Let's vote for the people who have committed to getting rid of our lifeline for the past 7+ years."

Some people are morons you just can't fucking reach.

I think there's a lot to it.

Many Republican voters do not trust the federal government and when they think of things like ACA, they will think negatively of it even if it benefits them. That does not mean that they want to get rid of it though because they know that it would hurt them, but why vote for Trump?

I think it comes down to hearing parts of things you like and ignoring things you don't. When Trump says repeal they hope he doesn't mean it, or maybe he would do something better because he did say that he would cover everyone; they trusted him in that part.

It also comes down to the fact that the other side is vilified so no matter what they won't vote for the other side, or the party they know is something they already familiar with. Voters don't really understand their party( this goes with everyone) all that much at the same time they might trust their congressmen more.

Water is not wet!
i dont see where it says they would vote for him again. Am i missing it?

edit: i mean theres something in the opening but its not a quote. i was curious as to whether that was an opinion from before or after but cant find them saying that. No transcript comes up on ctrl-f and no video is popping up.
