TITANFALL 2 |G2.1| "Whatever The Fuck That Means"

Arrrammis

Ha, someone on Reddit found out that you can save the big yellow ship from being shot down in the Ark mission if you kill the first gunman close enough, but then the ship does some weird things later in the level: https://gfycat.com/MealySlimyAdeliepenguin
Note that it pushes the NPC out the side of the ship- I wonder if that would happen to the player...

Haven't played this in a while. How have the numbers during the free weekend been?

I've seen about 24-30k players on PS4 compared to usually around 16k, I assume that xbox and PC see the same kind of increase.

Did anyone save the webm files of the "Titanfaru Standby" thread when the mod to play with the japanese voices came to light?

When were you on? I was playing Saturday night around 1am MT and it was only around 6K players. Maybe that's too late and it had dropped off?

PC? Probably accurate. The consoles did get a bump. X1 was around 20k for most of the weekend.

I doubt this weekend had any real impact. Most of the randoms i talked to said they were having fun for a few min but didn't plan on picking up the game. Number 1 reason given? It felt like it didn't have depth. I guess that's what happens when you fill your game with tons of cheese. Even the general population can see it.

Most of us saw this from the start. You kept saying it needed little fixes, but when the foundation is already busted, there's not much you can do. You could see that there was a large change of vision from the first to the sequel. It's sad. Titanfall is an amazing concept, but it's been mishandled badly with this sequel.

I got to Gen 10 in the OG TF.

Reading the impressions after the tech test and lead up kinda put me off this even though I really enjoyed the game and I felt like I was pretty decent at it. Finally got around to downloading the MP trial this weekend and it's...not bad?

It feels slower, there's tons of visual clutter, the guns (at least the rifles) feel like they lack personality, and I did best when I ran around on the ground with the Eva which feels dumb. I can't believe they kept that stupid 1 hit melee kill from TF1 too lmao. Titans also seem so weak here, they only way I can last for more than one or two skirmishes is to get an extended drop on someone.

Maps are all over the place too smh, it's like they built them in mind that the titans are weaker now so instead of using the pilot paths/cloak to pop in and out to take on hardy titans where they really had to try to get you, you're doing it damn near in front of them or from a window/roof of a building since you can be so brazen because pilots do crazy damage. Of course the few times you are out in the open you're truly fucked because maps seemed to be built for the grapple hook and decent pilot only paths are sparse.

Still, I kinda regret not picking it up when it first came out. I probably would have enjoyed it for a few months before going back to OW at least. It feels like a step down from what I remember of the first game but there still isn't anything else really like it and EA sent it out to die.

I saw it. Trust me. I tried to be positive, i thought with the proper tweaks and better maps then what the tech test was showing it'd be a decent game.

I still feel that way. Only problem is it doesn't look like Respawn gives a shit, or more likely, most of the talent moved on to Star Wars.

Map design change was to make the game more predictable. The first game was a chaotic mess that had zero predictability in the pilot vs pilot aspect of the game. Steve Fukuda said it best.

"Internally, we played the game and came out of the play session thinking, "That was super exhausting. That was super chaotic." Why is that? We struggled with trying to answer what it was.
What it came down to was, it was difficult for players to have a predictably unpredictable kind of experience"

and on the map design change

"There's a greater simplification of the player's understanding of the environment, so that the environment becomes more predictable and becomes less about just drawing lines across the map from any point to any point where it just becomes a mess"

Shit man. I wanted the speech one too ;-;

Titanfaru Standby!

Thanks anyway.

Rayme, still waiting for that TF anime :(

In all honesty, I really wish they'd announce some means of expanding the lore/world.

Web comic, anime, anything...

I REALLY want this universe fleshed out :(

Well they went so far the other way as to break the free flowing fluidity of the original. Now we're playing COD with Titans basically.

Eh I would say the "chaotic" part of pilot gameplay in Tf1 came from the way spawns and the maps work. Notice how easy it is to spawn trap a team in Tf2, especially on Tf2 maps due to the three lane design, while in Tf1 spawns (at least in Attrition) were a lot more unpredictable. In terms of pilot encounters Tf1 was far more simple, or you can say elegant (tactical being far less prominent). And due to the way weapons (hipfire vs ADS) work, Pilot engagements were a bit slower as well.

Uhhh that's not what I asked?

Just thought you would like it....

In other news, they sure did fix melee....

I'll gladly take this Black Ops 2 like melee system where it's useless compared to the previous where Commando Lundges were possible

Its so inconsistent, even after they have "fixed it" twice that I wish they would just take it out for front melee and leave executions only.

Doesn't seem like Respawn dudes visit this thread anymore and i'm partly to blame for that, i know.... i still spent $$$ on the recent dlc stuff so fucking whatever man =)

Anyways, some fixes that would go a long way but i'm sure we will not see for months or ever.

  1. Volt buff
  2. G2 nerf
  3. Pilot glow reduction
  4. Frontal melee hits
  5. Private match customization
  6. In air gun accuracy increases
  7. Reduce sun glare on certain maps
  8. Amped weapons no longer stackable
  9. Hold "x" to rodeo consistency improvement
  10. Stim boost to health to the start and not at the end of the initiation
This is a quick list of fixes that would go a long way in making the game that much better, if these people weren't so stubborn and implemented them we could all celebrate.

Am i missing anything?

Stop with the personal ("stubborn") and passive aggressive ("I'm sure we will not see for months or ever") attacks, and stop lol'ing about being a dick. Actually just stop being a dick period if you don't mind. You have some fair criticisms that I agree with but no one is going to listen to you or care because you're being a dick about it for no reason and just yelling rather than trying to bring your informed opinion to a group discussion.

All that said, I do agree that I would be in favor of everything you listed though. I do like smashing people in the face though, so I wish they could get melee to work. It really doesn't work very well right now though lol, so I guess I wouldn't mind trying it without it, just so I don't have to get pissed at myself when my melees whiff :p

You don't think that was attempted?

The way you "bring opinion to discussion" makes people don't want to discuss with you, period. If it was anything different this OT wouldn't be as toxic and barren as it is right now as it is just clear that once you show up/came back a lot of the OT regulars don't visit nor post any more. It is a YOU problem, not a WE problem. I'm not to going to dismiss your opinion because I always value them as genuine, but that doesn't mean I want to see them again and again because I (and others) hate the way you talk.

Sorry I have to be straight and direct.

Yeah, hold x to rodeo just out right doesn't work at all for me. I feel like you need to be holding it at the same time the icon pops up, which kinda defeats the point.

I think what it is, is that if you don't hold it, rodeo is disabled but the game only let's you climb on at specific windows. Like, why even have the icon there then?

I'm waiting for the next update. This one was probably the worst so far for me. That being said, I still regularly enjoy the original game and I think they can nail Frontier Defence.

I just hold X when jumping on Titans and it seems to work pretty consistently for me.

"Mode rotation for Colony 24/7 is now Bounty Hunt | Attrition | Amped Hardpoint."

WHY AMPED HARDPOINT?!

Cause Amped Hardpoint is awesome!

...lol, I know it's not for everyone but it's still my fav mode next to Attrition. I have a love/hate relationship with Bounty Hunt as it brings about some toxic play I find

As a side note, I FUCKING SUCK with Ronin :(

That, or other players aren't going after the opposite team's titans when they get called in, so:
A - I end up always outnumbered and go down immediately
B- We end up getting steamrolled because the match never balances out. I don't know what happened, but it's something I've noticed recently or maybe it was just an isolated few incidents

Also, Crash Site is still a trash map... like, unbelievable so, ESPECIALLY when the other team has most of their Titans called-in and your team essentially becomes fish in a barrel with all the long hallways >=(
I could tolerate it somewhat but it STILL seems like the matchmaking is constantly either putting my in Crash-site or Complex. I literally played for a few hours last night and never once saw the following maps in rotatiion:

Drydock
Eden
Kodai

WTF!?

Also,

Dear Respawn,

Could you bring back the in-game match music ala TF1?

I didn't realize how much I actually missed it until watching random clips on YouTube (currently deployed and don't have access to my XB1)
REALLY set the game apart actually and was just great at giving each match a.... well, soundtrack to the action :)

Have been matchmaking for Colony 24/7 for the past 30 minutes and it still hasn't found a match... PS4 in Australia here. Numbers are dwindling around these parts it seems. Even regular matchmaking has taken a massive dive after the Christmas boost. Such a shame.

bleh, it's barren because not many people here still play it.

It seems that very few people outside of NA play it.

I stopped playing TF|2. Not because of any problems with the game, I'm just done with it after like 200 hours. It wasn't such a popular game to begin with, despite being fucking great.

Anyone else prefer the R1 button for shooting than R2?

I feel like i'm in the minority, a lot of developers are actual removing the option to use R1 for shooting, i will seriously not buy a online multiplayer if they do this. I wasn't going to get TF2 if it wasn't for the button remapping option on the ps4.

I find the R2 trigger takes longer(compared to the R1 button) from pressing it to the character actually shooting due to the the way the button is designed, that few milliseconds annoys me. Anyone else feel the same way or do i just need to git gud?

I think some still feel that way. Hell, I remember early PS4 games like BF4 and ShadowFall still left the option in.... but yeah, eventually it went away
Thankfully for those who still feel that way, bless Sony and MS for adding the option to remap buttons at the system level. Honestly one of the best things to come out of this generation

If you're using a Dualshock, it's because the triggers are garb

Nah, they ain't garb

DS3 triggers were garb

im dropping this game until further updates. the weapons need tweaking (agree with swolbro for the most part) and it needs more maps, more something.
loved the game but getting tired of its nonsense. on to gears of war for now

I always put my shoot button on R1 or RB, it's easier to mash it for semi-auto weapons compared to an analog trigger

+1 for this. My posting frequency is the direct opposite of Swol's. It's not worth commenting in a relatively small thread when one person is such a relentless dick all the time. I agree with him on some stuff but I'd rather jam a pen into my brain through my eye than engage in a discussion with him.

Otherwise I've fallen off the game a lot, like other people. I think I'm around 150 hours which is way more than I usually put into a MP game. The core gameplay is still great. I don't see it as fatally-flawed in any way.

The killer for me is the dearth of support content and the deluge of other amazing games right now. I don't think you can keep a game going these days in such a competitive market with the meager support Respawn brought to the table. People used to use Siege as a comparison, but Siege is basically unopposed in the tactical shooter genre, on consoles at least. Even when they release awful patches or do dumb stuff, the playerbase has nowhere to go. That's not the case for Titanfall. It's impossible to know the behind the scenes stuff, but this really couldn't have been Respawn's plan, I hope.

Agree 100%
Look at him all smug and proud that he drove the Respawn devs away. No one put a gun to your head and made u buy the dlc, if you hate this game and what the devs are doing to it fucking move on bud. No one wants u here anymore if your all DICK mode all the time.

As someone who's been a software developer in professional industry for nearly a decade, I echo the sentiment that if you're an asshole - or even pretend to be joking while you act like an asshole - no one will listen to you.

And when you claim "well I tried being nice but they didn't listen!!" maybe consider whether your opinion is the only opinion in the world and whether you're entitled to have the developers bow to your every whim?

Especially for something as subjective as game design, your opinion is just one in thousands or millions that the developers need to consider and weigh proportionally.

More importantly? All your suggestions are probably things that the development team probably already thought of ahead of time, and simply chose not to implement them for legitimate design reasons, or have them on the backlog and haven't gotten around to them, or fundamentally disagree with them, or who knows what other reasons.

But if you think that being a fucking asshole will suddenly make them start listening when all else failed, you're wrong.
