And... Odin does really crappy damage, which means physical espers still do awful damage when summoned. Maybe I'll finally get around to testing the esper summon damage changes.

To be completely honest, if someone didn't start playing the game at launch, I'm not sure that the effort is even remotely justifiable anymore.

Look at the Easter event, for example. Practically "free" Magical and Radiant Eggs are equivalent replacements for Hero Rings. By the time power creep actually catches up to these impossible-to-create rings, there will be something equivalent that will be considerably easier to obtain.

That, and achieving 70 trophies these days from scratch is almost impossible. Who is going to fight 1000 battles in the Colosseum anymore? Summon 1,000 (let alone 10k) espers when esper damage is generally awful and nearly impossible to fit into the meta?

I just don't really see it happening at this point for a new player. For older players, the cruel tease of an virtually impossible-to-craft reward for the ridiculous grind to 70 really doesn't help matters any. Personally, I think the Dominion Ring is more of a placeholder for future trophy expansion and intentionally isn't supposed to be reached yet.

Finisher Setzer seems good albeit inconsistent (rip NRG) if you don't have a strong finisher already, is the impression I get.

But I've heard a lot of good comments on how it is a fixed number and helps a lot in some cases.

It depends on your needs but Noctis should be your number one priority.

I like him(don't have him) but he's considered a low end 6* because his high damage comes at the cost of HP hits to himself. If you have a strong healer he's cool. His TM is a strong dark elemental sword with Man-eater. So that's neat, but all the big boys use greatsword right now. edit: Deathbringer is a greatsword after all. That's juicy.

Back when he came out I couldn't believe how much damage he did, and he is able to use something like drain blade to do a ton of damage and heal himself up full every round. I'm sure he has fallen off though?

Just Matsuno characters for me (Tactics Ogre, Vagrant Story) - so I'm safe, since both franchises are six feet under (outside of FFXIV nods?)

It does help to be just a smidge crazy. Although, when I started all of this, I didn't actually think that I would follow through with it all the way to the end.

@DrRob: Having a LB-maxed Garnet is huge towards speeding this up greatly. Combined with a Ling (or any other Entrust unit), I can pretty much guarantee an Esper summon 2 out of every 3 turns after the opening turn. Farmed the last 1k summons on this event mauling bears and Earth Veritas,

Finally have a free day between events. Going to poke around this evening with esper summoning to get a feel for the changes and will report back.

The numbers Nazta reported from the datamine implied that there are significant disparities in their damage outputs now based upon their order of appearance in the game. That said, one of the things I want to check is if esper damage is still some sort of esper-based INT/SPR attack or not. If it still is that (which I think it is), it would explain why the most recently released esper (Odin) still did garbage damage to Belomar, even with Rydia is full summoning glass cannon mode.

Yeah, that sounds like an interesting one-off update to the project that I can do in an hour or two tonight.

Very cool! LB pots were a bit stingy for me, so I only got my Elza up to LB rank 23 Hopefully 4* LB pots will be a bit more common in the future moving forward.

I wouldn't worry too much about missing non-limited 4*s. I spent a bunch of tickets for Seven a ways back and now I've gotten another 4 off-banner. Agrias was one of the only two I was missing for a while, now I have 5 of her.

It's almost as easy to get a specific 4* as it is to get a specific 3* after the crystal changes. As long as you're doing dailies you should get Xon eventually.

Yeah, exactly. At one point, I did a 10+1 pull for Leon, and all it effectively did was unnecessarily speed up my acquisition of Dark Knight's Soul. I still have my 4* ticket, and I'm pretty sure it's going to Rikku (which will probably be a Vanille or something).
