NHL Playoffs 2017 [OT] 100 Years of Playoff Salt

Stop shitting on my team. Start shitting on my finger.
Leafs inexperience/lack in Defense showed and ultimately cost them, but they outperformed all expectations and should be proud of themselves. Once they pick up some D and the rookies keep their pace/don't fall into a sophomore slump they're gonna be really scary.

The Leafs were real impressive, a real team that you expect to be in the playoffs from here on out unlike some one hit wonders.

The Caps are just too good and they turned on the after burners in OT and leaned real hard on the Leafs.

*sheds tear*

Why would Kermit be shook after being doused with water? He's a frog!

For a fanbase that was told to temper their expectations, and expect rough roads ahead, the Leafs sure looked like a playoff ready team. Nothing to be ashamed of (unlike the Raps who are so Jeckyll-Hyde right now it pisses me off). With that being said,

YESSSSSSS! Both Boston and Toronto being eliminated today totally makes up for the Habs loss yesterday lol.

Sens over Rangers
Capitals over Penguins

Oilers over Ducks
Predators over Blues

Capitals over Sens
Oilers over Predators

Capitals then win the Cup in 7 games over Edmonton.

Yeah, I'm pretty happy with how they played overall.

I think I'll cheer for the Sens, I don't mind them, they're a Canadian team and they have Burrows.

Also wouldn't mind the Perds for Subban though.

Huge props to those Caps fans in that Leafs crowd damn. If they were guys they'd have been bottled 5 seconds after the goal at the latest.

Alright, time to make my R2 predictions.

Caps-Pens: Pens in 5. Please remind us that the Caps are choke artists at the end of the day, Pens.
Sens-Rangers: Sens in 7. Don't think the Sens will make the same mistakes the Habs did.
Ducks-Oilers: Ducks in 5. Come on guys, the Oilers will be lucky to push this to 6 games.
Preds-Blues: Preds in 6. The least interesting R2 playoff series. Blues will at the very least do much better against the Preds than the Blackhawks did.

I think I'm in the same boat. Except I'm flip flopping between the Oilers and the Sens. Essentially I want the Sens to come out of the east, and Subban to make it from the West (sorry Nashville, your team exists to me only because of Subby).

How did I do here?
Caps in 6 - It's not time for the Caps to choke until round 2. This is a lesson for the future for the Leafs.
BJs in 7 - I'm not convinced that Malkin is going to be 100%, not to mention several other key players, and that Pitt defense can be dire at times with their injuries. If the Pens are healthier than they seem, this could be a short series in their favor, though. Maybe the most even match up on paper.
Habs in 5 - If Carey Price stays healthy and the hex that Bell Centre seems to hold over the Rangers stays intact, this is an easy win for Montreal. Strong chance the Rangers are exposed much like last season.
Bruins in 6 - The Sens have had the Bruins' number all season. Time for that karma to change.

Hawks in 6 - Playoff time in Chicago again. Don't need much more reason than that for round 1.
Blues in 7 - ALL IN. LIKE MINNESOTA. BUT NOT MINNESOTA.
Ducks in 4 - Feels like we need a sweep in here somewhere.
Oilers in 6 - Sharks seem ripe for the picking by a fast young team. Opportunity for McDavid to start writing a legend.
Nailed it with Caps in 6, Ducks in 4, and Oilers in 6. Right with the Blues but missed on the games. Other 4 series are a miss, though to be fair, I did say it could be a short series in the Pens' favor.

Might as well get my first predictions out of the way:

CHI vs NSH in 6
MIN vs STL in 7
ANA vs CGY in 6
EDM vs SJ in 6

MTL vs NYR in 7
OTT vs BOS in 7
WSH vs TOR in 7
PIT vs CBJ in 7

Hawks didn't show up.
Bruce is cursed
Habs had no offense and King Hank reigned.
Goddammit Bob.

STL vs NSH in 7
ANA vs EDM in 7

NYR vs OTT in 7
WSH vs PIT in 6

Time to jump on the Preds bandwagon I guess.

Elliote Friedman gave the leafs the kiss of death bragging about their faceoff proficiency..

Great series. The Leafs only need to tighten up a couple aspects of this team and they will be great.

Penguins in 6 - I'd love to be wrong, but the Pens' depth seems endless. If the Leafs pushed them to the limit, the Pens may threaten to blow them away. Another year out after 2 for the Caps.
Rangers in 7 - Ottawa's neutral zone play has given the Rangers fits in their previous meetings this season, and Hank is due for a little regression. Experience and road play barely puts the Rangers through. Look for some first round duds like Kreider and Miller to wake up in round 2.
Predators in 5 - Two upstart teams, the Preds seem more believable than the Blues to me, though.
Ducks in 7 - Super wishy washy on this one. This could be a ton of fun. Ducks have been to the dance before and aren't quite at the end of their rope like the Sharks were, though. Think they can squeak by.

Now that I ran out of Kermit gifs to spam...

Hell of a series, and the Leafs held on for a lot longer than what people expected. In the end, the Caps outmatched them. It's a learning experience that I hope the team can learn from for next season.

It's almost funny that the Leafs just sucked at OT during the regular season, only to match up against the Caps for 5 games that went to OT in this round.

ONE MORE AROOOOOOOOOO! I NEED YOU!

MATTHEWS! AROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

MARNER! AROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

NYLANDER! AROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

FREDDY! AROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Wow my predictions for Round one were completely off the mark.

Think I'll make my predictions now while the thread is still fresh.

Leafs-Caps: Leafs in 7. In a series between two of the finest choke artists the East has to offer, one side chokes in epic amazing ways but the other consistently chokes before they even come close to fulfilling expectations. This is less thinking the Leafs will pull it off and more the Caps will blow it.

Oh if only...

Pens-Blue Jackets: Pens in 6. I don't see the Blue Jackets winning this unless they get red hot like they did during their 16 game winning streak. Series will be relatively close regardless.

Clearly I gave the BJ's too much credit.

Habs-Rangers: Habs in 6. Provided Price doesn't go down this is should be in favor of the Habs.

Well I was right about the number of games at least

Sens-Burins: Sens in 7. This one will be close but I think it will be Ottawa that emerges triumphant.

On the flipside, I didn't give the Sens enough credit

Hawks-Preds: Hawks in 6: It's the Hawks.

LOL Blackhawks.

Blues-Wild: Blues in 7. It is the most boring matchup in the first round which is partly why I think we'll get 7 games of this.

Wild went all in on a pair of tens and twos and lost to a full house.

Oilers-Sharks: Oilers in 6. Sharks have more than a few players hurt going into the season while the Oilers are (Surprisingly) healthy. Oilers are also the better team on paper and (for now) don't have a history of choking.

The only one I was actually 100% Correct one. Figures it's the Oilers.

Flames-Ducks: Flames in 7. This will probably be the most intense matchup in the first round and ultimately I think the Flames will take it.

What was I smoking when I made this prediction?

I think the leafs need a few more pieces, like on defence and they might be scary.

I think there are upgrades to be made up front too. I think it's only a matter of time before Komarov gets bumped off the team for a younger player and I like Bozak but once he's gone (contract expires after next season) and Nylander shifts to C there will be a spot on Matthews wing to fill with a body. Highly doubt JVR signs a contract here so we'll see how that situation goes.
