Unfortunately, that's just not the way companies see it.

If they can sell it to even 100 more people by shaving away the complexity, it's worth it. If 90 of those people get bored after 4 hours but 10 stick around and buy some DLC, it's worth it.

I don't think it's quite so simple. If 80~90% of the players don't like it, and they all dump it for some other game, that's a lot of DLC they won't get to sell to that majority.

I got burned on Marvel vs. Capcom 3, and was dangerously close to being burned on Street Fighter V, so my expectations for this game were already pretty grounded. The dull trailer and announcement of 6 planned DLC characters confirmed that Capcom won't be getting my money for this title.

That Dreamcast port was something else back in the day. I will admit I found mvc2 a bit crazy coming from mvc1 initially.

I can say this right now: DP inputs are gone. Ryu’s Shoryuken is done with a down, down motion.

There are even more dumbed down gameplay changes that I can't talk about right now, but you'll hear about everything in a few days.

Some of you guys are gonna die when you hear about the control scheme/gameplay mechanics.

My biggest concern is that fewer special move commands might mean fewer special moves. I know Chris lost some stuff, and I don't think he's alone.

There are two or three other gameplay changes I know of that will probably be met unfavorably by this community. I'm not sure which change is the worst, though.

With as central to the story as X is, I really don't see how his buddy Zero doesn't show up in the story, let alone on the roster.

No, that's actually a lie. Lucas Gilbertson (played the role of Zero in X8, CM and MHX) actually did that as a "gag" for a podcast he did once, and it spiraled into something beyond his control.

As far as I know, this actually is not true -- it was a very unfortunate joke started on Twitter by Zero's English VA Lucas Gilbertson, who has since cleared the matter up many times and apologized repeatedly for the bad-taste misinformation. But if you already know all this and news has come out that Gatha has actually actually passed away... damn, that's terrible. But AFAIK, the only part of everything Gatha-related that's definitely true is that he left voice acting to begin a career as a doctor outside of the US somewhere. I think he's alive and well, at least!
