Ok so this is one of the best games ever. Ever.

The Battle Mode is BRILLIANT. Playing the SNES track with the throwback music made me grin from ear to ear, and the new modes are so much fun. I really like Coin Runners a LOT!

This game is worth every dollar/pound/Euro/whatever.

For fun I fired up a 4-player game undocked, and while yep it's 30fps, it looks gorgeous and plays really well.

I can't gush enough over MK8D. It's worth buying a Switch for, and take that from someone who hasn't even started Zelda yet.

Maybe it's just because I'm older and have no patience for shit these days, but getting really sick of every CPU racer getting nothing but red shells the second I dare step above 2nd place every single race.

So I just started playing Deluxe

Great game, gameplay is so much fun, the best multiplayer game there is. But holy shit the game is incredibly boring in singleplayer.

Everything is unlocked from the start, you have zero goals in the game, you receive nothing when you win, there is no feeling of progression at all in the game. Mario Kart just gets boring after 20 races in singleplayer. Racing feels great, but there is literally no reason to keep racing.

How is it possible that there is no one that ever complained about this? Because it really really bothers me. In which racing/karting game is there nothing that keeps you going? I have never seen this before. Yes there is a lot of content, but where is the fun if you never get awarded for doing anything? I can't be the only one that finds this a huge negative ...

There's one character and two vehicle parts you can only unlock in single player.

I miss the days when a bunch of characters and like half the karts had unique unlock requirements.

I find getting 3 stars on every cup to be the draw. To get Gold MARIO!

you played 3 players then right?

Yup.

Don't you unlock Kart parts?

Anyways I already unlocked all that stuff in the WiiU version, so it doesn't really bother me not to have to unlock it again.

First tragedy, then farce.
I'm going to try and download this on a shitty hotel internet connection in Beijing before my flight to Tokyo.

Wish me luck.

It won't be much slower than with a blazing fast connection here in the US. Took me over 1.5 hours even though my connection is 200 Mbps.

Y'all

I'm gonna bold this please read it

You can turn off smart steering before the race starts on the stats menu when you're making your kart combination

I seriously can't believe that was enabled by default. Just... NO. It should have at least TOLD you it was. That's really my only complaint so far with the game.

It makes sense why it is. Small children aren't going to mess around with the options and see that it's in the game. If you don't want to use it then it just takes a few seconds to turn off.

-try undocked
-try 5ghz if not already
-try changing the DNS
-restart the switch via the power button

those are common fixes, might not work for everybody though
I've had some success in the past in re-connecting to my router while ingame.

Could also be server problems today, not sure.

Hmm does everything in online take a second to happen or is it just me having lag? I guess it's hard to notice while racing, but it's much more evident on battle mode

Do you mean like, the green shell seems to have missed but actually hit your opponent? In my experience yeah it's normal.

Small children? Really? I don't think small children are using the Switch without supervision. I don't mind it being enabled by default. I DO mind it not TELLING you it's enabled by default. A pop-up should just say this sort of thing. It's just peculiar for Nintendo, out of character for the MK series, and rubs me quite the wrong way.

Small potatoes, I know, but still...

Yup. I guess not having a proper battle mode last time made me forget how it actually is when battling online lol Well, it's still really fun at least

You used to have to get gold trophies to unlock characters and more cups but since so many players will have already done this on Wii U, it does make sense to have nearly everything unlocked from the beginning. The downside is that new players, of which I am one, will find the single player a little lacking in incentive.

If you need an incentive to play single player, you need to get gold trophies on every cup in 200cc mode to unlock the Gold Mario character.

Plus there are the kart parts. I won't have internet for a day or so still and I'm enjoying running through the cups in 150, Mirror, and 200 to get the parts. Plus the VS mode is basically a "create your own cup" mode for me.

I keep getting parts I don't care for tho

Pls gib clown car

Having a lot of fun with the game, I still think it is lacking variety and the replay value is low (the game NEEDS a track editor). But the game looks and runs great

That sounds incredibly boring, right? Your only incentive is unlocking one character and two parts ... That's it ...? Really really dissapointed with this.

One incentive in a whole game ...

They should just have had a middle ground. Have more unlocked than the Wii U version, but not everything. I have no reason to play this game alone right now beside for two races every week ...

Replay value low? Loads of courses, time trials, battle mode awesomeness, online play. What else do you want?! :D

It's a shame there isn't much to unlock in this one. Would have been nice to have a whole new set of stuff to unlock in the game rather than it all being available from the get go.

Can't complain too much though it's a fantastic game and I cant wait to try battle mode out!

Friend Code is: SW-0848-9512-7107

Could do with some peeps to play online with :D UK Gaffer here.

Still not quite sure what Ravi is talking about here, is this nonsense? He assured me at the end that my package is still coming today. Not sure why the site doesn't reflect that.

Damn I can't wait to play, so I hope he's right.

ToTi in the GAF battle room is wrecking me 1vs1 ;(

Also can whoever is responsible for that room allow bots? It's empty in here.

Is there an option to lock stuff so I can unlock it by playing the game? Need rewards.

No. It's worth noting that the majority of the kart parts are locked behind coins. You'll pretty frequently unlock them kinda like leveling up in a multiplayer FPS.

The only purpose of single-player in Mario Kart is to unlock content for multiplayer. This is a multiplayer game.
