So UFS is a flash storage spec essentially, so it would be faster on 2.1. I have no idea if it's noticeable in real world use though.

You can check by entering this into a terminal: cat /proc/scsi/scsi

then googling the name of the storage controller.

Thank you all for the info.

Unsure what you guys are meaning with regards to the UFS storage lottery so I'll take that into consideration before purchasing. Is it a flaw in some Samsung S8s? Is there a way to find out? Really hate it when that happens. It was the same when the Xperia Z1 first came out and half the phones released used a shit screen while other had a better quality ones. Sadly, I ended up with the shitty screen.

I suppose the bigger battery in the S8+ is suppose to accommodate for the larger screen as opposed to making it have a better battery life than the S8. Size wise, I guess I'll just have to hold it in my hand to make that decision but I'll be leaning towards the S8 and use the spare cash to buy a good quality case.

The UFS issue is that Samsung has randomly shipped UFS 2.0 speed hardware, despite originally advertising UFS 2.1. The only phones affected are the US model S8s, the S8+'s aren't, and the international S8s with Exynos processors rather than Snapdragon ones also always seem to have 2.1.

Having said that, the actual speed difference in regular use between 2.0 and 2.1 isn't huge - some manufacturers have been caught with huge differences before.

Ok cool. I presume I'll be purchasing a UK or European model so I'll double check after the purchase. Perhaps I can exchange it if I end up with the inferior version. Thanks :)

Yeah, looking at this poll: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/how-to/ufs-2-0-2-1-identify-flash-chip-s8-t3601656 only 5 people are claiming to have an Exynos and 2.0. So even if assume that they aren't just trolls with such small numbers, there are barely any Exynos UFS 2.0 models out there.

battery lasts longer, but it's 130 dollars more. all depends on whether you want the bigger screen or not.

I spent a good 15-20 minutes going back and forth between the two models. The S8 fit my hand better and I could reach the fingerprint sensor without stretching or changing the way I hold the phone. Coming from a Note 4 the S8 felt like a small phone despite the equal or just a bit larger display.

I chose S8+ because typing seemed more comfortable, the larger screen and battery, and reaching the sensor wasn't really an issue (largely blown out or proportion IMO). I've had the phone a few days and I haven't once thought I made a mistake by choosing the larger model.

The devices are equal in terms of components except for dpi, battery, and display size. Think about how you use the phone, if a larger battery and screen make sense for those uses, and then decide on those factors.

Is there anyway to disable the notification about the proximity centre when unlocking sometimes? Or the volume warning? It's these little things that pissed me off on the S4, but it's only a couple of things this time.

EDIT: Finally found a solution through searching. Fuck me, why is this so hard Samsung?

You can't.
Search this forum. You'll find a thread linking to instructions on setting up Tasker and AutoInput to tap okay automatically without your input.

I mentioned this at one point but forgot to check if there was a solution posted.

Notifications from apps like Gmail / Messenger aren't coming through till I turn Wi-Fi on. What do?

S8+ here and didn't look back. I have big boy hands and the screen size was close to the J7 I already had. Big phone = far less drops for me, personally.

Did you check power save settings? Do you have any data limiter settings on?

I checked the Power Saving and I have it turned off, App Power Monitor is on though?

Has it put any of those apps to sleep? Can try adding them to the unmonitored apps list. Just read the description on that screen and it randomly cracked me up.

These apps can use as much power as they want and App power monitor will not do anything to stop them.

NOTHING TO STOP THEM.

Gmail doesnt show up but Messenger and Email apps are already on that list 🤔

I appreciated the evil genius line too!

The only other thing I can think of is in settings, connections, data usage, and then make sure data saver is off.

That might be the one!! Neither were ticked in the exceptions list.. I'll report back is/when I receive a notification on 4G now.

Edit: It's working! Thanks 😁

Managed to get a perfect dust free straight install of the official S8 screen protector. This thing is like glass even though it is tpu, God knows what voodoo Samsung are pulling here, so smoooth.

Not very case friendly but works with the Samsung clear cover case so I'm happy.

My Samsung DeX has been "On FedEx vehicle for delivery" since 8:15AM.

I've only lived here for a month and a half, so I'm not positive on delivery schedules, but I feel like everything usually comes by around 2-3PM at the latest (USPS mail is around 1PM)

It's still saying "Scheduled delivery: Fri 5/12/2017 by 8:00 pm"
And that still gives them 1h20m...
But, I'm getting worried...

:(

My iPhone 6 really needs replacing as the battery is struggling to make it through a day.

I've always had iPhones but I'm considering an alternative this time round, as I now have an iPhone for my job so want my personal phone to be a bit different. I also want a headphone jack.

I can't decide between this the S8 and the Pixel. The S8 seems to have more bells and whistles but the Pixel is likely more stable and reliable. Or am I making a huge mistake moving from iOS to Android after so long?

Id argue Google stuff always end up being the least reliable due to constant updates xD. Monthly updates = more chances of things going wrong.

My pixel always had Bluetooth connecting issues. If you can find a pixel at a good price, go for it. Otherwise get a s8 or wait a few months for pixel 2

Already have some scratches in the screen. Not big, but one is surprisingly deep (nail catches on it). Not sure how this hapoened, but probably would have been avoidable with a good screen protector option. Sucks that I have to choose between the screen and fall protection (construction).

Anyway, tried the Gear VR that came in today. The code didn't work, so did the Prologue and the in Utero promo for Alien Covenant. Prologue was neat, and could see it as a great stepping stone for kids over what they have at the Oculus demo stations. Didn't care for the Utero thing. IQ overall isn't that great, and the rainbow hue surrounding everyone (ambient occlusion?) Is distracting.

I'll reserve judgement when I play some games and watch normal video with it, but right now I'm glad it was free.

Well, after some major ****-ups by FedEx (don't feel like getting into them all now. Long story short, a bunch of time and money wasted because they can't be ***ed to do their job), I finally got my Samsung DeX today...

It does landscape mode as well, of course...
But, I got a portrait-orientable monitor on a rotatable mount just for it.

The S8's screen is surprisingly susceptible to scratches imo. I'm seeing more scratches on my plus than I have on my 3 year old HTC One M8. Kinda regretting going naked.

I'm bringing it in to mobile outfitters later today to get it clear coated. Not a fan of the rubbery feeling of wet film but I can't stand anymore scratches.

I moved to Android after the years of iPhones and it worked out great. As long as you a) Check all the apps you want or equivalents are on the Play Store and 2) Make sure you're not having to pay too much to replace the apps, you'll be fine.

As someone who moved quickly away from Samsungs software after the S4, it's actually very stable now. Still got some annoyances, like a headphone volume warning, but it's quite nice to use. Because Android has launchers in the play store, installing Nova Launcher makes it feel more like a vanilla Android phone too.

I think the main advantages the Pixel has over the S8 is that the software does feel snappier on the Pixel and updates will come faster, but the screen and the battery life on the S8 are better there, so it depends what you prioritise.

Just wait and see how precisely the front clear coat is cut, it's truly to the edge when fitted correctly - at 1st I thought they hadn't done it.

Anybody using the spigen neo hybrid with a screen protector on their plus? Does the case fit well with your screen protector?

From looking at the reviews, it seems like the case is lifting the screen protectors at edges. I might get the galaxy s8 screen protector for my s8 plus, if this is a widespread issue.

The spigen neo flex case friendly protector works well with spigen cases. I'm using the official screen protector with a Samsung clear cover as only Samsung cases work with it.

Well... I ordered the S8 to replace my iPhone 6!

After years of iOS, I'll be joining the Android club for the first time. I just couldn't bring myself to get an iPhone 7, simply because I couldn't get excited about it whatsoever.. it's just the same but different.. bland, dull. But the S8 looks sublime and I can't wait to get my hands on it. I'm also fed up of the restrictions in the iOS interface, it'll be great to have customisation options including launchers etc.

Should get it on Tuesday :)

Amazon Italy has already discounted both S8 models. S8 is 619 euros and S8+ 699.

How is the battery life on regular S8? Any chance to get two days of usage like my Xperia Z3?

My phone told me tonight that I sleep around 12:30 and asked me if I wanted to setup a reminder for tomorrow. Any idea how the sleep is tracked. I have Google fit but I haven't enabled Samsung health yet. I use Fossil Q Marshal smartwatch that's connected to the phone via Bluetooth but don't think my watch has sleep tracking.

Mine did that the 2nd night or so I had it. Definitely odd.

Has anyone had any decent luck with screen protectors yet? My wife wasn't a fan of the wet application one I bought and would still like something, preferably tempered glass.

Picked one of these up yesterday to replace my aging iPhone 5S. Holy shit, what a difference. That being said, Android is still kind of overwhelming to me right now. Gonna take a bit to get used to. Also not looking forward to rebuying some of my favorite games, but oh well.

I bought dreadhalls but didn't realize that the controller support meant a gamepad and not just the motion controller that came with gear vr. Anyone knows which gamepad works seamlessly?

yep. the neo hybrid works well with the 'case friendly' skinomi protector that I'm using.

Got my S8 this morning and HOLY SHIT. This thing is amazing and a gigantic upgrade to my iPhone 6.

This is my first Android phone after years of iPhones. I'm loving the hardware, the screen is like something from the future for a start! And it's so damn fast.. everything so fast! And all the customisation options in the OS. I may have a bit of shiny new thing syndrome but I already think I may struggle to ever go back to an iPhone, it fixes all the limitations and annoyance I've had with iOS since forever.

I should calm down a bit, but seriously this thing is incredible in every way.

Xbox One S (with bluetooth). If you're looking for something cheap, Power A MOGA Hero.

Just got my new S8+ and set it up with Nova launcher and my preferred configuration.

A few quick questions, how can I disable Bixby? What's the consensus on the battery saving options( I am thinking of setting it to mid power saving mode, but I am worried of the performance of the phone).

BTW, this phone is sexy AF. Easily the most beautiful phone I have ever used. Samsung didn't seem to spare any expense in the materials and finish.

My lone complaint, the placement of the fingerprint scanner is just stupid. They should have placed it below the camera.
