Archaic doesn't necessarily mean bad.

Well, it does here.

Again, I'm not trying be an ass but I don't understand the point of your defense. There is no question that it would be terribly stupid if they lock out heroic difficulty.

We shouldn't still be "understanding" Bungie's stubbornness after all this time. They need to actually listen and not half-ass features.

Never got big into Destiny, but I was a huge Bungie fan for years and I was really looking forward to it. Played the base game and liked aspects of it, but never went back for any of the expansions. Tuned in for the stream and had to do a double take. The game looked like it could be an expansion for Destiny 1 tbh. I'm not sure what I expected or even want from this series, but as a lapsed Bungie fan, it didn't make me want to come back.

yeah the enemies didn't even have new animations or anything

The guardians don't either. Same emotes, same melees.

This should have been an expansion, from what we've seen.

I'm honestly shocked. Still processing it. I really, really thought Bungie had learned.

Good luck getting this amount of content, changes and visual improvements in an expansion.

Hope the new strikes have hidden weapons and encounters like the black spindle. That was so awesome when people found that.

I like how "the animations are the same" is a more important aspect in a sequel to you than the actual content of the game.

Sure, they could have improved the animations. But for that to "shock" you when everything else we know makes it clear that this is a sequel? Silly.

That's generally what is expected from "expansions." D1 just set the bar so low that many are desperate for whatever scrappy bone Bungie will throw to them.

I like what I'm seeing from some of the new social features and clan implementation—but that's shit that never should have been missing in the first place. You're not gonna win me over by showing me that 3 years later you finally figured out how to put the stuff everyone expected you to already have in your game.

After my hundreds and hundreds of hours in an abusive relationship with D1, yes, I wanted a fresh slate. I wanted them to take their shitshow tech from the first game and throw it completely away. I wanted a new engine, new enemy factions, new subclasses, whatever. New. New game. I expected that since they decided to hard wipe all progress and create a numbered sequel. Now I'm scratching my head wondering why they bothered. This looks like the same old shit.

So what's the script with the ability now?

We get:

- Melee
- Grenade
- Abilty
- Super

?

They're basically making the game Destiny should have been. I don't know why you're disappointed by that? I thought the point was to have a good time.

This looks like a good time, and we've only seen one strike, one story mission and one PVP map and mode.

Exactly. ITs like your flat earther friend finally accepting he was wrong and expecting to be praised for it when in reality its a little irritating that it took so long to happen in the first place.

I don't know what people expected. If after the Taken king or Rise of the Iron Bungie went dark for 3-4-5 years and then came out with this I'd be upset and hugely disappointed, but that's not what happened. They pumped out paid expansions and free updates from release up until late last year and then unveiled this. What did you expect? If you want to say its a very very big expansion then fine, but there are many $60 games with less content than this so its definitely worth the money in my eyes. Yea no new classes but there seems to be updates to all the existing ones, along with a new campaign that should actually make sense this time around, and new subclasses, new gear, new pvp, new strike, tons of QoL changes and a ton more. Sounds like a sequel to me but what the fuck do I know.

I'm honestly just glad they didn't REDO THE ENTIRE GAME like they did with Halo.

Halo 2 "let's throw out everything that made the first game great"
Halo 3 "let's make the last game but slower"
Halo Reach "let's try something completely new"

And then 343 followed them.

If Destiny sequels are going to be "safe", I'll take them.

I wonder how much of this strike is a strike-exclusive area and how much is taken from the areas you can visit in patrol?

My hope is that we see strikes include a lot more areas you can't visit any other time.

Four new planets are basically just QoL improvements that should have been there in the first place!

Haha.

All I've been trying to state is the mindset Bungie has been taking when designing this game socially. We don't have to agree or disagree with it, the game exists as it does because of that design. And no matter what we say, Bungie is going to whatever they decide to do.

For my opinion on locking out heroic difficulty, I can cite an example I used in prior threads. When people would bring up raid matchmaking I would use Final Fantasy XIV as an example of why it might not work out well. XIV has matchmaking for most activities, but when a piece of content is deemed more difficult than the rest, it is excluded from normal matchmaking. People would complain about this, saying that they should be able to match up for everything. However, what would happen frequently is that when the content became available for matchmaking, queue times would take extremely long periods of time, and clear rates were very low. So low that people stopped queuing up for these activities, and instead asked for help in other ways. So, XIV has stuck to this philosophy that the hard content (deemed Savage, or Extreme in XIV) is reserved from matchmaking until the next tier becomes available. Then the previous tier goes into matchmaking, but the problem still persists.

Although Destiny is much less difficult than FFXIV, the raids in the game absolutely require a level of coordination that you just can't get sometimes from players. If most attempts at a heroic difficulty challenge are going to end in failure, wouldn't you want to direct players to a way for them to achieve success? That's meeting other players that can maybe help them achieve their goal. XIV has made this easier over time (with adding an LFG type system and another, more serious matchmaking system) and I see Destiny 2 and Bungie finally taking steps to put things into place for this.

Not that I saw, and not surprising. Looks like a LOT of reused assets, animations, etc. I see very little that indicates a new engine.

Okay thank you! Glad I didn't miss it.

This really surprised me. I would have assumed Destiny 2 would have reworked things to have more consistent content flow. If the engine is the same I'm curious how content will stack compared to D1

What's worse is that they are also subtracting things as easy solutions to issues in Destiny. Crucible network is atrocious, go with dedicated serves? No, just make it 4v4 across the board. Special weapons are too powerful in PVP, balance PVP and PVE separately to optimize both? No, make shotguns and snipers "power" weapons so they can't be used as much. People aren't doing raids because they can't find a group that fits for them, make an easier version for casuals to run through? No, make an obtuse in-game LFG where they are still at the mercy of being passed over.

It's insane that Destiny 2 is still grappling with issues all successful MMOs solved over 5 years ago.

It's naive to think that's the reason. The reason is clearly to create a more balanced and less hectic Crucible that is more focused on skill.

Many people in the Destiny threads around here have asked for them to move to 4v4.

Special weapons are too powerful in PVP, balance PVP and PVE separately to optimize both?

This will never happen. It's not what the game is. Part of what makes Destiny great for me and many others are that guns feel and play exactly the same in PvE and PvP. Not everyone likes it but in that case, this isn't the game for you.

No, make shotguns and snipers "power" weapons so they can't be used as much.

Good. (Except you can still use them plenty if you bothered to watch any of the PvP videos that went up. Power ammo drops more than heavy did in Destiny 1.)

People aren't doing raids because they can't find a group that fits for them, make an easier version for casuals to run through? No, make an obtuse in-game LFG where they are still at the mercy of being passed over.

We don't know enough for you to have this judgment yet but an "easier version" would be a far worse idea.

I'm worried that they did do that and that the Guided Games are only for easier versions. But there's nothing "obtuse" about this. It's pretty clear how the overall idea works:

- Go in alone, find a clan to join up with. That clan can be two people and looking for four more or five people and looking for one more.

- In a clan? Open it up so randoms can join you.

How is that obtuse?

I'm done reading this thread...some of you guys are ridiculous. I don't know what you expected, but you clearly had your expectations set WAAAAAY to high.

Saying this looks like an expansion is idiotic. You haven't seen any of the story content besides the first mission. If there is a 10+ hour campaign in here, plus all the new co-op/PvP, it's clearly not an expansion. Get over yourselves.

Right? Lol.

This comment makes since. Everyone that played Destiny doesn't know what content actually is.

I was excited before the reveal but this is like a meh expansion to the first game. Not to take away from anyone that does enjoy it there isn't really an FPS MMORPG on the market. (Planetside kinda counts but not really).

For shooter content its decent I was just expecting them to lean into the MMO aspects more but alas.

You haven't seen everything in D2 so I'm not sure how you can make that assessment yet.

Well that's where much of my frustration stems from. Bungie should have blown us the fuck away today. I feel think that if they had the content in the first place, they would have.

So yeah, I'm worried. Press sneak fuck did mention that the game was fully rebooted again just prior RoI release.

All I want is for Bungie to show me that my worry is unfounded and they have everything under control. I was already pissed a month ago with the nonsense CGI "reveal," today's presentation was supposed to deliver the goods.

Have you watched any of the streamer vids of the strike or PvP? They didn't even tweak the UI. Everything looks like new maps/modes added to the base game. Looks identical.
