Progression in this game is nice until about the point when you beat all the tournaments and it takes forever to earn another pack of players.

Update 1.1.0 released

Many thanks for the continued support! We have the best players in the world and we are privileged to serve you.

Update 1.1.0 for PC/Steam brings the heat! Challenge your friends, enemies and other players online. Game on! Friends matchmaking is here. With the new Challenge feature, you’ll be able to directly challenge another player to a game on the Playgrounds. All you have to do is agree on a code, open the online mode, switch to Challenges, enter that code and face each other.

Other additions include a new connection manager, which monitors the connection of players during ranked matches and penalizes disconnections from games that are made to avoid losing. Quitters never prosper on the Playground.

In response to great feedback, we’ve also tweaked the entire shooting system from jump shots, to threes, to dunks, layups, and everything in-between. We’ve redone the timing, added a meter, and clarified the entire system. Keep those comments coming!

As a big thank you to our rabid fans, we’ve also added 15 new players, including Isaiah Thomas and Dennis Rodman! Those two all-stars and 13 others can be unlocked regularly through player packs, earned during the tournament or when leveling up your profile.

Thanks again for all your great feedback and support. Update 1.1.0 is the beginning. We’re only days from launch and we’re already making the game better thanks to your feedback. You rock!

New Features:
Added: The Challenge Mode feature, which allows you to challenge other players to online matches
You can now switch between unranked challenges and ranked games in the online mode
To challenge another player, you must switch to the challenge mode in the online menu and define a challenge code. By default, your challenge code is your nickname, but you can change it to your own, personal code. The person you are challenging must enter your code.
If you have been challenged, please enter your challenger’s code and press “Accept”.
All challenges are unranked and your ranking/ELO will be unaffected by the results of the challenge.
Added: Toxicity system/Disconnection Manager, which penalizes players who abandon matches in any other way than surrendering
Added: 5 new versions of Shaquille O´Neal in various teams from his career (Boston Celtics, Miami Heat, Phoenix Suns, Cleveland Cavaliers, Orlando Magic)
Added: 15 new players join the roster
The following players were added: Dennis Rodman, Isaiah Thomas, Larry Bird, Giannis Antetokoumnpo, Kenny Smith, Gary Payton, Klay Thompson, Devin Booker, Tony Parker, Kemba Walker, Seth Curry, Tiny Archibald, John Starks, Tracy McGrady, Pete Maravich
Added: A shot-meter was added to help finding the perfect timing for shots, dunks etc.
Added: Steam Cloud Save support
Added: Steam Big Picture keyboard management

Notable Changes:
Adjusted: Shots were adjusted to make the system more accessible and unified throughout all variations
Adjusted: The steal action was adjusted further to better fit the intended gameplay
It is now possible to perform a steal action when behind an opponent
Changed: 3 pointers no longer fill lottery pick bar
Increased: The difficulty of 3 pointers was increased
Reduced: The number of steals required for the Las Vegas Challenge #2 was reduced to 10 (was 15)
Reduced: The number of 3-pointers needed for the Paris Challenge #4 was reduced to 6 (was 7)
Reduced: The number of 3-pointers needed for the London Challenge #1 was reduced to 6 (was 10)
Reduced: The number of 3-pointers needed for the Las Vegas Challenge #3 was reduced to 8 (was 12)
Reduced: The inbound time was reduced to adjust it to the overall style of the game

Notable Fixes:

That patch sounds fantastic. Come on bring it over to Switch very soon please!
Also I hope it covers all those changes not just the first one.

Update 1.1.0 released

Wow, this first patch looks to already fix a bunch of the problems I have with this game.

  1. Three-pointers will now be more difficult and they also won't contribute to the lottery meter (so now dunks become more important). This is very important, because dunking is the most fun aspect of the game.
  2. To solve the shot-timing issue they're adding the shot meter and also apparently making the timing more consistent across the different types of shots.
  3. Gary Payton & Shawn Kemp is now possible. Thunder & Lightning!

Changed: 3 pointers no longer fill lottery pick bar

Ouch. This was the way I was totally beating people down online. A made 3 gave you just a little bit of lottery pick bar, which I used to shove the opposing player and then I'd just snatch up the ball. Rinse and repeat.

That's why this change is a good thing. It shifts more importance to dunking.

Dunks: 2 points + lottery meter increase

Threes: 3 points

So now you have to weigh the pros & cons of each, and use more strategy, especially since threes will also be more difficult to make now.

Love the look of that update, hope its out for ps4 asap cuz ive decided to put the game down until it does, its just too unbalanced in its current form.

My online matches have been 100% three pointers. I dont want to play that way but its the only way to keep up with the opponent... They wont even take dunks when they're all alone.

I'm hoping they'll eventually give us an option to turn off the lottery bar and extra scoring methods for offline play.

VERY welcome changes for me. I haven't bought this game yet( played the online beta when it came out accidentally pre-launch) but when those changes come to the Switch version and they work as intended, I'm taking the plunge. Spamming the steal button, the wonky shot control( especially for layups and dunks) and spamming 3s were major turn off for me. Nice to see them adding new players as well.

Except that the Lottery Picks system removes a lot of the skill at higher levels of play. Whoever is down will get a huge boost from the Lottery Picks, granting them a big advantage and potentially a free win. The new strat could easily change to just staying slightly behind until the last minute of the game, then go for a Lottery Pick and win.

Sounds a lot worse than trading 3s and having your defense win games. With defense getting big nerfs this is no longer possible.

I'll have to see how it feels when I play but the change to make 3 pointers no longer fill the lottery picks bar at all seems stupid.

Already you could fill the bar much faster with dunks and alleyoops. Now they made 3s harder to make (which is fine, they were too easy) and worthless to the meter?

All that's going to do is shift the balance way over to the tallest best dunkers, and make short 3 pt shooters useless.

They need to speed up that inbound time...Like halve it at least.
And also fix the damn rebounding being almost useless if you actually jump. So weird to get more rebounds without jumping than with lol.. just not right.

Yeah i don't really get it either although i understand them wanting to emphasize dunks over three pointer but all they had to do was just make them more difficult

This patch isn't for the PS4 version?
The patch is for all platforms. It came to PC first because it is the easiest to patch. It will come to PS4, XB1, and Switch. They said on the Facebook community group page that they are just waiting for it to be certified by Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo.

Also, I noticed that it now takes forever to solo grind xp for packs in exhibition mode. It now only gives 40xp per win in exhibition.

Yep, the changes sound really good. People can complain about the game being unfinished but at least they're listening to feedback from people who are playing the game. Is it only certain players that you can change the team for like Shaq?

Oh wow that sucks. So online will become necessary to grind?

DrDogg

So the grind for players is worse now? Wow!

Technically it's better since people shouldn't quit out of online matches as much. But with the nerf to defense and the buff to randomness (Lottery Picks), winning online will be harder... so who knows.

Before online was faster than exhibition matches, but only if people didn't quit out.

What did it award before?

And does it still give you 100xp towards character level with each win?

bish gets all the credit :)
Why does every game have to have some progression garbage tacked onto it? In this case, the unlocking of players.

Isaiah and Rodman?! AWESOME. now just give me John Salley and Joe Dumars please!
Isaiah Thomas is the Celtic point guard of today.

This Isaiah Thomas

I believe it was 100exp per win before. So before, it was about 13-14 winning games for a pack, now it is 30+ winning games. I have to check later about character exp.

It seems players in card packs are already pre-determined once earned. A user on Steam forums did an unpacking video with 24 packs he earned in patch 1.03, and opened them in the current patch 1.10. He did not get new players.

40xp per exhibition win post patch? Time to grind to level 50 tonight I guess so I can at least get gold packs each time.

So dumb. Let us pick who we get from our packs or quit giving us repeats and we wouldn't be doing it.

Playing 12-13 games in exhibition to get 4-5 repeats is infuriating. I'd play online to earn XP faster, which is I guess what they want, except you don't earn XP faster. Over a minute waiting in matchmaking to play, a much longer game than the short to 10 pt exhibition, and then you have to win. It's way slower.
