Attack on Titan Season 2 |OT| NO MANGA TALK

Here's where I think Ymir's motivations are:

1) Christa's the most important person and she wants to be with her. That's why she was looking for ways to escape in the beginning.

2) Reiner/Bert convince her that Christa would eventually be safer in their hometown.

3) Ymir chooses to have her cake and eat it too. Take Christa right now no matter the risk. That way Christa's safe and Ymir gets to spend her last days with her before their hometown inevitably axes her.

Telling Christa that Reiner/Bert is threatening her life is a deception to make Christa go along with them. I mean Ymir would eventually die but that's not what she cares about.

Realistically, given the type of character Mikasa is, had Eren stayed dead she just would've shifted her psychotic devotion over onto Armin instead.
She would probably go full psycho more likely. She is way too fragile. Maybe she should just lock him up to be safe.

She has no personality and has had no character growth at all. Why should I care about her? She's as one dimensional as it gets, it all comes down to one word: Eren.
It's understandable at first, but it gets annoying after the first few episodes from the first season, she's only strong because the plot demands her to be, Eren is like a Super Mario invincibility star for her.

What? You are delusional mate. She has everything you just said.

Man that was a great episode
But one more left 😭

Yeah, it feels depressing there won't be another episode to look forward to 2 weeks from now. It happened once with Season 1 not knowing when we'd get Season 2 and now that we finally got it after 4 years, it's leaving already :(

But you can rewatch season 1 with new perspective on everything.

Christa: They're going to try to eat me.
Ymir: Everyone has one or two faults.

Uh...that's a pretty major fault.

I know right? I burst out laughing. I also liked the fact that Christa knew that Ymir would get obliterated by Mikasa if she had attempted to resist.

Or just read the manga. I know most people won't read it after the anime ends though. They'll still complain nothing gets explained.

I wouldn't call Mikasa totally flat - theres a definitive, logical reason why she's so fucked up, and why she cares so much about Eren.

That, as a baseline, is good stuff.

The problem is she hasn't wavered from that at all. She's the same character she was thirty six episodes ago. Thats what makes her boring.

Or just read the manga. I know most people won't read it after the anime ends though. They'll still complain nothing gets explained.

This is a bad suggestion. The manga is hard to follow, the art is lousy and it action scenes aren't nearly as good static.

I actually did just that recently after episode 31. I got someone else into the show so it was great to re-experience that again and in a way felt like I was re-experiencing it for the first time vicariously through them.

This was a good episode. I continue to enjoy Mikasa's escalating rage faces more and more. Nintendo will never animate it, but when I watch Mikasa flip her shit I start to understand how Mario must feel when princess peach gets stolen over and over again.

They get 100 points for that cliffhanger as well. People getting chomped on, losing limbs (holy SHIT @ that "advance" yell haha). Erwin was a boss and I loved Armin's Hannibal Lecter manipulation.

A+
Christa: They're going to try to eat me.
Ymir: Everyone has one or two faults.

That was honestly a pretty believable response under such a high stress situation even if it was hilariously dumb lol. Too often in media do characters know exactly what to say when everything around them is blowing or crumbling into tiny pieces. Christa is truly a god tier friend, though. Ymir isn't even ready for that shounen jump tier camaraderie.

Wasn't she forcefully injected a serum as punishment, which allows her to transform (for the first time)? My first impression was that she is lying to get Historia to agree to leave with her (for Historia's sake). Idk.
That wasn't the Power of the Titans, that was punishment. It's pretty explicit in the episode.

I guess that spoiler-highlighted part (I didn't read) and what you're saying imply that
Eating a Shifter turns you into a shifter, and that her eating the friend allows her to transform at will. This is an interesting theory that explains why every titan is keen towards eating human: it's possible that it's a kind of a subconscious will by each titan to turn back into human.

Anyhow, I'll leave it there. I don't want to speculate too much on this. :p

It's not really a theory. It's nearly explicitly said in the episode. Ymir ate Bert's friend while she was a mindless titan. After that, she wakes up as a human and has no recollection of what happened during that incident.

We know from last week's flashback that it's not true, so she's lying?

The power of the titans in this context seems to be the ability to switch back and forth. She wasn't lying about that, but it does seem like she was lying about Reiner/Bertrolt wanting to kill her - we know from last episode that isn't true. She just wanted Christa to do follow.

I don't understand what Ymir is about. Is she really kidnapping Historia to give her over or is she just mad thirsty for some Historia vajayjay?

I don't know I think this season has been complete ass. Budget has clearly been lowered and the season could have cut at least 3 episodes of drag.

And now just when the pacing picks up it is ending.

She thinks it's potentially safer for Historia to be with R&B, and that she doesn't really have a chance of assimilating back into their city (Eren belongs to the state and can't actually leave the military) and being near Historia. So she's being selfish and choosing to take Historia with her even though she has (as far as we know) no reason to believe R&Bs hometown is actually safer than the city.

Ymir lies about her own life being on the line because she knows Historia is self-sacrificial and won't actually follow them if the primary reason is to keep her (Historia) safe.

Since there's no reason to lie about the Power of Titans (Historia doesn't know what that is), that part is probably true.

What are you even talking about? Every point you just made is dead wrong and speaks more to your attention span and superficiality than it does the quality of the manga.

The manga is fucking fantastic. I fully encourage those who are interested to give it a shot.

I mean, it's hard to argue that the action scenes in the manga are better than seeing it fully animated. Not just because of the animation but also the VO's and musical scores that tie into it making them way more epic. That's probably the main reason I don't go ahead and catch up with the manga because even though it sucks waiting I'd much rather see the action scenes first time in the anime.

I don't blame anyone for reading the manga, because it did take 3+ years for us to finally get a second season.

This time around, we're gonna get a 3rd season much sooner, but this 2nd season was only 12 episodes, so again, don't blame anyone for wanting to read the manga while they wait lol

Of course you're going to get more out of the action if it's animated with sound and music but that doesn't say anything about the quality of the manga. The art style has evolved to the point where it's attractive and unique, the manga artist's designs, expressiveness, and ability to depict action sequences to the reader are top notch, and the story, lore, and character development in the author's original vision are ingenious and creative.

The anime is fantastic, don't get me wrong, but there's something about the manga that's really special. If you feel like you can wait for more anime then more power to you, but the manga shouldn't be passed over just for misguided reasons of quality. It's not a "lesser alternative" to me, it's the artist's original intent and I find that pretty special in a series like AoT.

When Conny had to tell Christa that Ymir was lying to get Christa to come with her:

"COME ON BRO USE YOUR FUCKING BRAIN SHEESH", hearing that from Conny definitely gave me a chuckle.
