Spider-Man E3 2017 Gameplay - PS4 - 2018

This captured Spidey's acrobatics and fluid style of combat and use of webs in combat/stealth way better than any Spiderman game I've ever seen. None of the other games even come close, based on this; the fluidity of how he'd use the environment, web enemies to the environment, the aerial elements of the fighting, etc.

I just noticed the guy who Spider-Man kicks and tags to the wall drops his shoes, haha.

Edit: Apparently it's his gun and not shoes. I may be vision impaired.

Batman Arkham combat mixed with prolongued press-button-to-win cutscenes. This gameplay is stale and Insomniac should gut the project leads.

Got to say, I'm quite disappointed. Quick time events? I mean they're not banned or anything, but I trusted Insomniac to devise a better alternative.

I mean it looks good for sure, just doesn't seem to wow me in the way I was anticipating.

Even though the combat looks to be almost copy paste of Batman games I still think the game looks great and will probably be great.

QTE hate is irrational.

We know there are good QTEs (God of War, MGSR) and bad ones. In my opinion the better ones usually don't have fail states and generally blend well with the gameplay.

Remains to be seeen how these work
It was good in Heavy Rain. That's about it, though.

Absolute dream come true. My biggest wish in my gaming history was Spider-Man Arkham style.......and here it is.

I've never been so happy. *sheds a tear*

I went in expecting some kind of equivalent to the Arkham games. And oh boy was I not disappointed! This looks absolutely fantastic in visuals and gameplay. People who hate on this must hate all of the Arkham series too.

Those who are against QTE, please post your alternative to how you would have control in those same exact scenes without QTE. I'll wait...

If this game does really well like AAA great selling 89 metacritic etc

Will it get DLC and or sequels? Is this one and done? Especially with that Miles bit!

Will Sony literally have the Spider-Man IP to themselves for the rest or th generation? If a kid wants to play Spivey they have to buy a PS4. That's kinda crazy to me.

It'll most likely get DLC and possibly sequels. Marvel wants their gaming department to get pretty big. I'm wondering if they'll connect or have easter eggs to SE's future games. Maybe even have an appearance by an avenger or something? A quick Bruce Banner (not even necessarily the Hulk), for example, would be good fan service.

Regarding your 2nd question, it's a tougher one to answer. I'm flabbergasted that Marvel would give Sony even this one game as a full exclusive. Unlike the movie rights, Marvel control the gaming rights to all their characters, so they can control where the games go. Let's hope the sequels and other games will be multiplatform while still being developed by capable developers like IG.

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!
Visually incredible, highlighting some extremely situational animations, that I can't fathom how anyone under normal play could replicate.

How is the player to know how the environmental interactions will operate? I expected a spider-sense slo-mo mode to highlight such interactions(like the crane that takes down three soldiers), but alas I suppose Insomniac will just set up the pins for us to knock out with a button press? Or at least just for these highly cinematic-driven story missions?

Will be a massive hit, but outside of its flashy veneer, this isn't the Spiderman game I was hoping for either. Though this demo didn't seem to really demonstrate common gameplay either. Impressive scripting by the development team though.

My Game of Show thus far. Insomniac knocked it out of the park.

Maybe, we don't know what the deal was and if the game rights were part of the shared universe deal with Marvel Films.

Potentially a seque could end up multiplat but there is nothing to indicate that will be the case now.

Watching this again for the QTEs, how well do the prompts relate to your normal button mappings?

Seems like triangle was used most of the time, for shooting basic webs, square for ripping off the panel on the helicopter and then both triggers for the final web barrage. If those hew pretty closely to the normal button uses than they aren't so bad, as QTEs go.

The one big outlier is the Shadow of Mordor last-stand esque movie-the-thing-into-the-circle button press.

One thing that stands out in watching this is just how directed the action is, the shots chosen definitely have that summer blockbuster feel to them.

I think this demo would have worked better had the player started at some point in the open world, picked up the mission however you do so, and webslung to the starting point. That way we would have seen the openness and player control right from the get-go.

They've mentioned that this iteration of Spider Man is Sony exclusive iirc.

edit: nvm saw the link above

Agreed, they should have shown some actual free roam gameplay. Hopefully the QTEs are no fail, and you just get extra XP/better cinematic presentation for doing them correctly.

Gameplay looks like Arkham, which might be good if its well executed. Some of the environmental takedowns are pretty cool, like hitting the guys with the steel beam behind them. But outside of swinging during the helicopter chase the movement was too much like Batman's grapple gun. But the speed and maneuverability looks pretty awesome, hopefully the enemies are more interesting than goons with guns and shock gloves for the entire game.

I also loved how Spidey saves the various goons and construction guys from dying. Pretty nice touch.

Haha wow this game looks like ass to play

Thanks for the drive by shit post.

Do you have any reasons for this statement, or......just a shit post?

The combat looks fun and fast, and the visuals are obviously fucking amazing. Throw in some huge action scenes and this is the kind of game I've always dreamed of playing Spider man in.

- looked unbelievable. Thought it was CG for sure until gameplay started. Well after that even.
- Combat looked smooth and varied.
- Conference demos are always full of QTE. They just make for more spectacular showing for a lot of people.

- I wanted to see free roam traversal. What we saw (that helicopter chase) looked scripted. I need to see what the swinging mechanics are like.
- 2018 :( expected but still..

Is the game playable on the show floor ?

Anyway, it made me all giggly.
I felt the kind of excitement VG demos haven't given me in years.
A lot remains to be seen but right now this is my game of the show and just an incredible showing from Insomniac.

Hey so, I really trust Insomniac and I know they have a group of amazing devs, but those graphics are so good for an open world game... I'm afraid this could get a downgrade in the future. Hopefully not.

Is it playable at E3?

Seeing this brought me so much joy. I hope there are several major villains in the game. After that helicopter sequence I can only imagine what they could do in a green goblin or vulture fight.

With all QTE I'd much prefer to just watch a cool cut scene without button prompts in the way mudding up the screen space.

I always prefer the actual control of a character to be in my hands at any time. If something out of the ordinary happens in the game that seemingly would be impossible to control, I would expect it to either, A)just be a cut scene, or B)give an entire different set of movements to go along with the action. For example, Nier becoming a top down arcade style shooter at times.

Looks great. How many years has it been since we had a good Spider-Man game?

About seven. Shattered Dimensions was the last one I'd call great.

That's nothing like what was happening in this demo though. That's a reoccurring part of the gameplay loop of Nier. Keeping some semblance of interactivity during a set piece is better than just transitioning to a cut-scene.

You say that as if we don't have multiple games this gen which has players controlling the character during cinematic moments without the need to put glowing colored prompts on the screen.

There are certainly some criticisms I can see here:

1. Not much a big evolution from the fundamentals of Beenox's games.
2. Many QTE's
3. Action being similar to Batman Arkham.

But this is exactly the best way it is to portray Spider-Man in a video game. Insomniac has made him extremely fluid and the spider-sense is worked in magnificently. Unlike Batman, it logically makes sense for him to fight like this.

As for the Beenox games, yeah I felt it too in the beginning of the demo while he was perching, but no way are they as fluid and intertwined as Insomniac's game. In fact, the Beenox titles had VERY low-budget discount feel to them. Go watch a video of Amazing Spider-Man 2 on PS4 and compare it to this. It's night and day, bar some of the takedown ideas (webstrike) and perching on high points.

Finally the QTE's. Spider-Man's blockbuster actions would be nearly impossible to recreate without them and would be far too complex for most gamers. Also this is obviously a story mission set piece, and this is exactly what they had to show. Something along the lines of the Doc Ock fight from Spider-Man 2.

All in all, I understand the concerns but the hate is really unjustified and seems like the conference not meeting people's expectations caused them to vent even harder on this.

Best wishes.
