Metroid: Samus Returns (Mercury Steam, Metroid 2 reimagining, 9/15) announced for 3DS

Has the developer of AM2R commented on this? I imagine he's thrilled. He remade AM2R because he loves M2, right? I bet he's thrilled to see Nintendo's take on this

I haven't watched to much video, but it looks ok. One thing that is really sticking out to me though are Samus's animations. A lot of her movements are pretty bad, running looks a little weird, spin jump animation seems to slow or off in some way, and there doesn't appear to be any wall jump animation at all unless I missed something.

I'll probably pick it up at some point, but I think I'll hold off a little just to see if they announce it for Switch. The visuals are not great, but I think if they were cleaned up a bit it would look a lot better.

The special edition shows up as available on GameStop but as soon as I checkout it says it isn't? Is it actually sold out and if so does anyone else carry it?

I just watched some of the demo for this earlier and it looks great (not visually, but from a play perspective). I have never played Metroid 2 and I'm am really looking forward to this.

At this point, I just wish every single 3DS games they announce to be playable on Switch. I never take out my 3DS anymore after the Switch released.

I wasn't thinking I would be getting any more 3DS games. This title changes that. looks absolutely brilliant. It's like Other M done right.

Oh lord, it's as I feared: They're turning this into a straight-up spectacle action game! We even have super moves now.

Oh god in particular at that one 'Aeion ability'. Unless they're adding in randomly generated levels, radar-ing a 10x10 square on the map is going to trivialize a lot of the exploration and discovery aspect of the game.
We've had super moves since Super Metroid. And being that Aeion ability is going to "trivialize" the discovery aspect, you should be everyone's super guide. So many people will save well over $20 on guides or won't even need online guides. You'll be legendary.

Really? Castlevania was turned into some LotR God of War clone, this simply looks like Metroid 2 with free aiming.

Some of the flashier bits from the trailer show combos / QTEs (?) that look distinctively GoW.

And, admittedly, I just don't like the aesthetic, which looks a lot more Mirror of Fate than Metroid. The Chozo statues look really silly.

I really hope I look back at my posts in this thread with amusement and relief instead of sadness.

the part where he says its felt like a sacrilege was perfect.

I was like that during the trailer. Them the live gameplay made me want it now.

You should go watch the gameplay in the treehouse. It 20 to 30 minutes long, and the dev was there as well.

As long as they are no actual QTEs and just animations played after a successful counter. LoS QTEs were the worst. I bet MS originally suggested adding them and Nintendo was like "Hell no!"

They aren't. Just watch the gameplay. That is just Samus getting a successful counter and you're able to put 3 to 4 missile in them. Also these animations only happen in boss battles.

One of the main reasons to get a Switch was the repeated promise of Nintendo claiming the Switch would streamline all their software lineups into one device. Home console gamers and the handheld games.

Now we find out that is nonsense. I love the Switch, but either Nintendo blatantly lied and tricked us to our faces, or course corrected to becoming the old Nintendo after Switch success. I think all the plans for how Switch would have all the games and also have a super advanced online platform, was all just nonsense.

When did Nintendo ever say that all games that have been in development and are almost done would be on the Switch? This game comes out in a couple months, which means that it's been in development for a while now. Plus, the 3DS install base is already there and they're gonna support it through the year at the very least. The Switch only came out a few months ago, and it's only been like 5 months since the damn thing was revealed. Be realistic about things before getting in an uproar about something that doesn't make sense.

I really hope that Nintendo ignores some of the vitriol and negative comments this game is getting, because it really looks great in motion.

Awesome! Finally got to see video. I'm totally stoked. That melee attack looks like a game changer. I mean, yeah, one more fucking portable game I have to wish I'll someday be able to play on a system that doesn't suck. But I've never let that keep me away from great games.

My #1 wish for E3 was a repeat of November 17th, 2002, that glorious day when we got both a 2D and 3D Metroid game.

And it came true. Thank you, Nintendo.

What a tragedy some "hardcore" Metroid fans are. After a decade of empty expectations and disappointments, their toxic negativity has gotten to them so much that can't appreciate when what they've been clamoring is finally in front of their eyes. :'c

Nintendo never said any of that. In fact they said the opposite. That 3DS would continue to be supported and was not being replaced by the Switch.

Is it just me or is the constant Switch version whining/begging on GAF getting a bit annoying

The 3DS/2DS co-exists with Switch and has a massive userbase. Switch is the new flagship hybrid and typical with new consoles is that... always, always, the game selection will be barren for at least a year-year and half.

This game has been in development for a while and it's launching in just a few months.

Nintendo isn't lying or tricking anybody. Grow up.

You do know they had to keep the 3DS alive for a couple of years in case Switch bombed, right?

If they didn't and Switch didn't do well, Nintendo would have died.

I know it won't mean much for some people, but the 3D on games like this is gonna make it a whole lot more appealing to actually look at. I'm not the biggest fan of the art-style myself, but the 3D is gonna make it look a lot better. I was the same with Link Between Worlds; mediocre art-style, but when I played the game in 3D it came to lfe.

3ds is getting one hell of a year out of 2017. at the onset it seemed like it was winding down but 2018 is more the year for that it seems.
