NBA Playgrounds |OT| More entertaining & less predicable than the NBA play-offs!

I click on this thread every time I see it pop up on the first page just to see if they finally got the patch through, and I don't even own this game.

I've been monitoring the thread too for several reasons. I've been on the fence about getting this as I was a fan of NBA Jam back in the day; so while not amazed with it I figured it would be good for some local multiplayer or quick online play between other games.

I also wanted to see how developers treated multi platform games on Switch with patches and support. This game and Mr Shifty has been trainwrecks.

What number did you call? What information did you have to give? I'm beyond frustrated.

I called the contact number up on the Nintendo website, 1-800-255-3700. All they asked me was my name, email address and the Switch serial number. Without me asking, they transfered me to a manager because they have a certain time period to refund a game and apparently it already expired; after that the manager asked me the reason I wanted to get a refund and they explained their policy and offered me the one time refund. They are sending me an email in 24-48 hours and at the same time of the email, I should see the funds back into my eShop account.

Who knows, but they (and possibly Nintendo as well) have completely mis managed this situation. ATM I would have to put most of the blame on them since numerous other games have gotten patches out in a timely manner.
I feel for the CEO of Saber as he's been very involved with the community and sharing as much as he can, it's got to be immensely frustrating to see all of the vitriol first-hand. It's always the unhappy people who make the most noise. You add the Internet troll quotient to the equation and it's a recipe for a PR disaster.

I'm not going to call Nintendo for a refund because it's not like the game is unplayable. I've had plenty of fun with it. I just want feature and content parity.

I convinced my friend to buy it largely cause he liked NBA jam, and the free shaq fu. We played the crap out of it and it is a awesome fun game for $20. That's the main reason I have been following this. Def. a PR disaster all the way around now though.

I just called Nintendo and they offered me a one time refund for the game. They got some information down and it will take 24-48 hours to get the money back into my eShop account. I just realized that I've been playing the game by myself trying to unlock each character waiting patiently for the patch and basically that's not fun anymore. Finished all the tournaments and some of the challenges. If the patch is released one day, I will check the comments and see if it is worth it to get the game back.
On hold with them now. It's ridiculous.

I finally caved as well and called Nintendo to see if they could give me a refund. I literally just said the game name and the rep understood, so they must be getting a lot of refund requests for this game. I was told I’ll receive a confirmation email in 24-48 hours.

I downloaded the game about a week back for the Switch, and I'm enjoying it quite a bit. All the talk about the missing content is getting to me though. Hopefully, this coming week is finally it.

So... not last week. This week? Next?

I think it's on a TBD hold for now, since it appears Saber is trying to patch in the other half of the game at this point. I think the best solution would be to just remove it from the eshop and resubmit the half file size, online enabled version.

I don't know who to believe here. The problems submitting the patch seem to be only one or two specific developers. Even Mr. Shifty finally got patched weeks back, and that was by a developer who essentially never patches or fixes any of their games.

Plenty of other games have released timely patches, like Snake Pass had the rumble patch submitted and live in like less than a week. There may be a bottleneck on Nintendo's end, but it must only be in very specific circumstances.

I was surprised that my request got accepted when the first person was telling me that I was over the return period and without me asking he put me on hold and transferred me to a supervisor that approved the return. I already got the money back in the eShop and the email they send is basically a survey to see how was the experience.

Opened a ticket online for a refund a couple of days ago (Nintendo Canada). I've received an email advising me to call them in order to give them more info. A decision will be taken soon regaring a refund for this game. Bought the game May 5th.

Ok I know I said I wouldn't try again but I said screw it. Guy told me they don't do refunds but asked what the name of the game was. Once I said NBA playground he took my info and said I should get an email within 48 hours stating if I got approved for a refund or not. Last time I called they just flat out told me no after getting my information. He also asked if Eshop credit would be fine and found the exact purchase date. So he took and asked a lot more information. So I'm hopeful.

Did the right thing
Just tired this and it works. They ask for the serial number and some other info. Got escalated to a supervisor but they know of the issue and got me a credit .

Not sure if people care or not but I own the PS4 version of the game and it's been getting patches consistently since launch (and online also worked). Just got the latest patch which adds new tournements sometime this past week.

I feel bad for the devs. I suppose they shouldn't have promised a week or whatever after launch for Switch to have online, but it's clear they are rapidly patching and improving the game. Steam and PS4 versions have gotten a ton of patches.

All this said, for those of you on Steam or PS4... some of the challenges of the new tournaments are _rough_. Win by 25 points? Whoa.

It's official, I'm gettng refunded for this game. They usually only refund Nintendo games, but it seems like they're doing an exception for this case.

Finally someone on PS4! How is the player base? Pretty big or have most people stopped playing already?

I have it on PS4 and stopped basically a week or two after it came out/I beat all the tourneys.

I've been meaning to go back to it since they added more tournaments and players.

There's people playing it. Sometimes it takes a minute or so to get a game but I always do. It's P2P so it's been hit and miss as far as lag is concerned. Some games have been flawless while some were almost unplayable. Lately it's been better. They've been patching it consistently so I'm inclined to believe that some of the issues they are having on Switch is out of their control.

Dude fuck this game. Idk how many times I've been in the lead by 11+ on Larry Bird n within the last minute they always get some 3x2 n 4x2 shit n come back n win. N I miss simple lay ups at the end. Game is fucking rigged

Any word If this is finally the week? Hoping this patch tweaks a decent amount of gameplay factors as well. I'm infuriated of being up in the Paris championship every time just for them to come back and win, it seems rigged.

Nah, no hope. The last thing the CEO posted makes it sound like the update is handcuffed by publishing platform limitations. I have zero confidence in Nintendo's ability to address problems efficiently.

So then everyone should call Nintendo. This is bonkers... I hate calling support but looks like I have no other choice.

How do the refunds for digital titles work? I've yet to try it myself. As far as I'm aware, when you "buy" a digital title from Nintendo your truly only leasing the license, correct?

I'm assuming with a refund they'll ask for a serial #, revoke the license from the device/account and refund the money?

I've enjoyed this game single player, but it got to be extremely monotonous. I keep holding on for the update, but my patience is almost out.

Nah. This is on them.

I mean... just figure out a different way to patch it. Do it piecemeal. At this point, do whatever the fuck you have to do to get it out there.

CEO sounded fucking PISSED last week, talking about "i'd give a patch date but I don't want to have to give away ANOTHER game (shaq fu)"

This is obviously a huge nightmare for him. Big license, got in the launch window on a new platform and its selling HUGE (has been in the top ten on eshop since release). Literally, stop everything else your company is doing and figure out a way to make this work.

If you can't, pull it from the store and refund your customers.

I really want to keep this game in hopes that it gets patched, but this is getting dire. I'll give them till next week and if there's no news I'll be asking Nintendo for a refund.

Just saw your post. I don't tend to play online all that much as I prefer to play local multiplayer or play through the tournaments and challenges, but when I have tried to play online I've been able to get games fairly quickly.

I will say though that the folks playing online are generally very very good at the game.
You've really got to have played the single player quite a bit and beaten a lot of the tournament challenges to have a chance at winning. The game is helpful in that the 'lottery picks' it gives you when you're way behind are the better ones, so it can help you (or your opponent) catch up when it gets too one-sided.

Well now that's it's Friday I'm sure we can rule out a release for the patch this week. If that's the case I think it's time for a refund. I understand the devs frustration, but if you aren't going to have the patch released stop dicking us around week after week. After beating Breath of the Wild, playing the shit out of Mario kart 8 deluxe and some other titles I'm ready for a new game. Might as well get a refund and buy a finished game like Thumper.

Since Saber ghosted on social media I’m assuming the Switch Patch is forever abandoned now. They’ve had no comment for over a week, not even a progress update. Really glad I refunded this game and got Thumper (based on gafs positive reviews) instead.

Its not abandoned, they made too much money on the Switch version, I rather they shut up until they know the patch is coming out rather then giving false hope every week, which is prob what they are doing now.

I really, really hope it's not abandoned. I enjoy the game quite a bit. I just want feature and content parity with the other systems.

It's one thing to be frustrated and bitter but it's another to be irrational spewing nonsense.
They're not abandoning shit.
I just hope that they have a plan for the next updates after this one inevitably hits.
