can I buy platinum with steam bucks? I returned a few games and got quite a bit right now.

and if I did want to buy platinum, what would be the best stuff to buy with it?

I am enjoying this game quite a bit right now. Just smashin baddies and such.

What is a Damaged mod? Do I need to fix it to use it? Do mods become damaged over time?

just a beginner version of some mods to start you off that was helped with the story in that your being revived from stasis and your slowly getting back into the fray

As you progress you'll get the real versions so use the broken ones until then

IIRC yes it ultimately uses the steam wallet and while there are offers on the steam page its usually bought from inside the game.

Also its best to get the discount vouchers since they are ridiculously expensive without them. The game will give you one as a possible login reward and they come in 3 flavors of 20% off, 50% off, 75% off and they are all one time uses.

IMO the best things to buy with plat officially are

warframe, weapons, companions and archwing additional inventory slots since you have a limited amount of each. Concentrate on the frames and weapons slots (Arguably this is the only thing they are really for)

rare mods, prime warframe blueprints, prime weapon blueprints, pet/companion blueprints (leave this for last as they are expensive while you are stating out) from the trade market. You can also sell them back and even make a market for your own)

next is accessories/skins for your frames, pet/companions

then you can buy weapons and normal frames (these are already pre built and ready to use).

the reason weapons and normal frames are low on the list is because you can get them without plat but its just how much time your willing to put in. (same can be said for everything accept the top list item tbh but they require more time and effort)

Anybody playing this with the steam controller? I tried the default (official) config and it feels super sluggish. Bringing up the menu (start button) is a pain and it snaps out of aiming when moving the left stick while holding left trigger.

Also is something wrong with my settings or does this game have some awful black crush going on?
I play with the steam controller, but my config might be a little confusing if you don't take time to learn it. It's built for max mobility. About the menu thing, I haven't been able to figure out why that happens. Also watch out for your controls suddenly going haywire in a mission. You can stop it by either exiting the mission or waiting it out. It seems to be a new bug that was recently introduced.

I solved the aiming thing by removing the sprint function that was triggered when moving the analog stick all the way.

As for the menu thing, it has to do with the start button being bound to both opening and closing the menu at the same time. By removing the closing option I can now at least reliably open the menu with start and then close it with the B button.

Also this game is pretty fun. I think for now I'll just kinda follow what the quest log thingy tells me to do and hope I'll figure out stuff along the way.

I kinda dig the Vanquish-esk mobility in combat. I haven't been using a lot of it yet but I bet you can do some fun stuff with it.

The weapon buying, upgrade and equipment menus on the ship and the different currencies and materials attached to them are still a little too confusing at this point. For now shooting dudes in the face with that basic ass assault rifle seems to work fine.

Btw. what does the Melee weapon charge (left trigger when sword is equipped) do?

One day I realized that sadness is just another word for not enough coffee.
Aside from expanded armory space, I think the most efficient use of an initial batch of platinum is a high tier end game farming weapon (Soma Prime, Tigris Prime, etc, I don't know what's meta now), as well as two potatoes (the things that expand the capacity from 30-60, one for your frame of choice, one for the weapon) and some of the higher end Mods. Once you have those, you can start farming stuff in earnest and then sell the stuff you don't use for more platinum in the secondary market.

One more thing that new players should keep in mind is their Mastery Rank. MR is tied various things like the weapons or frames you can use, how many trades you can make in a day, the amount of rep you can gain with factions per day, etc. MR is accumulated by leveling a weapon/frame/whatever to level 30, which is the max, and checks off the "mastery" of the thing. What this means is you should ideally be always leveling some weapon (and maybe frame as well), even if you don't plan to use it long term. New players start out with quite a few weapons that are worth leveling up even if they're shit just for the MR. You can check what stuff you've mastered in the Profile submenu.

Its an energy mode it makes your weapon look sparkly and the enemies float away when you kill them, it doesnt do much more, hardly anyone uses it.

Do you mean channeling? It increases your attack power at the cost of energy on every connected strike. There are some mods that can further enhance melee channeling like adding lifesteal effect at the cost of negative efficiency (which means even more energy for every connected strike) or increasing channeling efficiency. Most (good) weapons are already useable without channeling, so don't think much of it as for now.

More or less, this. Channelling is a niche effect and is most often used for the lifesteal mod or other rider effects. Fragor Prime in particular benefits from channeling since it adds 80% more damage instead of the usual 50%, so killing blow will often improve its DPS more than just stacking basic damage mods.

Sounds it'll be a fun build if pair Fragor Prime with Inaros+Rage.
Fragor isn't the fastest weapon out there, so the energy draw isn't terrible unless you add in some attack speed mods... like I tend to, since it naturally pairs with berserker and blood rush thanks to having the highest melee crit chance in the game.

Any good weapon suggestions to go with Frost Prime? I have starting AR (bleh) and slightly better version of starting handgun (this is so good) and sword atm.

I jumped back in with whole Twitch thing after playing game only around release back then for few weeks. Just completed all possible Earth stuff and unlocked Venus. Game feels great to play and nothing this far has been issue when it comes to clearing missions, but I keep wondering if there is set of weapons I should and could aim for already.

You'll get weapon blueprints as you unlock more planets. Build what you get and use it so you can use even cooler stuff. Assuming your mastery level is fairly low, I recommend the hek shotgun, Atterax, and Lex as regular use weapons. The atterax in particular is end game viable given the right build.

Thanks, will look into those. I think my frame is around 20 atm.

My mastery thing is 1 I think, I completed that primary weapon test.

Your mastery experience goes up as you level warframes and weapons up to level 30. So try to keep things at least until level 30 so that you maximize the mastery you get from it. Then if you don't like that weapon, sell it for credits to make room for more weapons. Some of those weapons suggested (definitely the Hek unless I'm remembering wrong) will be locked out for you because of your mastery level, which is part of the reason why you'll want to work on mastery.

I would, but we don't have the room to invite more people at our clan tier, and I don't have the power to change that. Glitchesarecool has a non-GAF clan that will probably be happy to have you.

Thank you for the info Vandal :)
I will give him a PM or wait till he sees this.
I am running solo now and I would like some comp when I'm in.

We're actually running out of space too, as a bunch of people from other corners have been hopping in to try this out.

I'll try and figure something out. In the meantime you can add us as friends I suppose, at least we'd be able to help with missions.

Is there a place in the game that explains the different currencies? It's kinda confusing and I don't now what to spend where and how to earn stuff except for picking up credits in missions.

Nope. The game itself is bad about explaining things.

Credits - Used for buying blueprints off the market, upgrading your mods alongside endo, and for crafting, among a few other things.

Endo - Used for upgrading your mods, alongside credits. Can be an alert reward or randomly dropped by enemies. Also can trade in Ayatan Treasures which are randomly found in levels at Maroo's Bazaar for endo. Maroo also has a weekly mission you can do for an easily found Ayatan Treasure.

Ducats - As a new player, you won't have these yet. Gained from trading in prime parts/blueprints at any relay. Used to buy items from Baro, who shows up at a specific relay every two weeks to sell an inventory of items that changes every time he appears.

Platinum - Premium currency. Can be traded with other players for prime parts or vice versa. You can not trade your starting platinum. Used for shortcuts like buying weapons and warframes, and also for buying most cosmetics off the market. If you really like the game and you get a 75% off coupon, consider buying some plat.

There's also Kuva, but you won't need to worry about that for a while.

Unless I'm forgetting something, every other pickup is a resource used for crafting. This includes things like Ferrite, Rubedo, Morphics, Gallium, etc.

Couple of questions...

For syndicate sigils, do you get +% bonuses from both front and back sigils? I have my Syndicate one on the back and a random one that looks cool on the front, should I change the front to a +% Syndicate sigil as well?

Also, what's a good strategy for leveling new stuff? I just maxed out a set of weapons/frame. Do you guys typically bring a weak weapon or two and carry it through missions with a high rank weapon, or do you seek out lower level missions and level a bunch of things at once?

1. You can only wear one faction sigil a time.

2. The most popular spot to level is Akkad on Eris. Generally, its a good idea to take a good weapon or warframe and hit up dark sector missions which spawn lots of stuff. Spy missions are an attractive alternative if you just bring one weapon at a time.

Thank you! That's good, I didn't realize you couldn't and never thought to try it for some reason (I liked my current set up).

If you just want to level, Akkad on Eris is your best bet. Bring your stuff that needs to be leveled and one "good" weapon for if things go sideways and you really need to contribute harder. For me, this is usually the Atterax because of its reach and spin attack damage. If you want to get a bunch of stuff done at once, Hieracon on Pluto lets you nab some effective XP while also rewarding huge bundles of Endo and Relics at a good pace if you have a solid team.

Spy missions only beat out Akkad and Hieracon if you manage to maintain the stealth kills for the entire time, which can be really hard to do with non-melee weapons and how enemies become alerted.

It's been a long time since I played this. Any news on ever being able to play as the Stalker?

That was never a thing.

Need to hop into a clan at some point so I can buy a ton of blueprints

You don't feed cards directly anymore? So I just melt dupes into endo?

So I just got Healing Return. Finally. Did quite a few 5 minute Apollodorus runs just so that only the crawler and not its variants would appear.

Anyways, Healing Return works with Exalted Blade, which is pretty awesome now combined with Chromatic Blade's ridiculous status procs. And since I tend to use melee mostly for the quick attack and not as a dedicated weapon, I'm pretty happy with the healing it's providing on status weapons too. It seems to count each status effect times the heal amount on the mod, so it should be great on Lesion, which I like to use as a quick melee only. Glad to finally have this.

That's right. Cores are gone, and not feeding a mod enough mod points to level up to the next rank is gone. Turn dupes to endo or credits, and use both to level your mods. A lot simpler now, aside from having another new word for players to learn.

So I got a Riven mod where I have to maintain a 3x melee combo for 30 seconds alone. Does anyone have a recommended spot for this? I started with lower level survival/mobile defense missions, but the enemies just stop spawning in one direction and I lose the multiplier before I can find the new spawnpoint.

When I had one of those I went to Derelict survival. If you have both Drifting Contact and Body Count, they stack their extra combo durations. If you don't, then just one mod or the other should make it pretty easy. I went for infested since they tend to want to get in your face.
So that would be a no, then. I don't quite understand your reply but thanks anyway?
It's just not something they've ever talked about, at least as far as I'm aware.

Well that's sad to hear. I've been wanting the gear (helmet) since it first came out. I keep seeing something about a special event where someone got to play as him and hunt other players.

That's dope

Playable Stalker totally exists... for devs.

They didn't give any indication that this is something we'd ever have access to. I personally wouldn't mind, but I also enjoy spontaneous PvP in the Souls games and suspect I'm in the minority.

So I played this game when it came out. It was interesting. Played again when it came out on consoles with my friends, and was surprised by how far it had come. Played again today to try it out and this game is so damn fun. They had to have changed the controls because you are even more insane than you used to be in this game. I do not remember half of this shit being in the game, gameplay wise, not even including all the stuff on the ship. Going to give this a run.

started playing about 2 days ago when I read about that open world patch coming later this year. Haven't gotten completely used to the controls just yet, but I find the game quite entertaining. Curious if the missions get better later on though.

Yeah it feels much closer to that of a complete game now. I wish I could have transferred the PC account to the PS4. I have a Prime Excalibur and maybe $100 worth of gear there.

Started this up for the first time last night.

Any reason why the game only launches thru nvidia GeForce experience? Trying to launch from desktop always gives an "insufficient memory" error.

Yea, I installed thru Steam.

When the launcher pops up, does it download anything at all or does it immediately fail? If the launcher appears and the play button highlights like it's ready to go, try clicking on the cog in the upper right corner near the language select. Make sure Multithreaded Rendering is checked and verify/optimize your cache.

Also posting your specs might help.

The launcher starts up and once I hit play it gives me the error. Thru Geforce its starts up fine.

Thanks, I'll give that a shot when I get home from work. I did have some issues with the initial start up. It got stuck on "Checking for new content" on the launcher. I had to go into settings and uncheck 64bit for it to get going. I then re-checked it after it finished.

PC is stock 7700k and 1070. 16GB RAM

Try keeping it on 32 bit. It really doesn't make a huge lot of difference and 32 is generally more stable.

Also make sure only one of the DirectX options is checked. Sometimes both get picked for some reason, and that can cause conflicting errors.

Playing with the Nidus Warframe and I'm loving it. I managed to level up from like 8 to 22 in one long gauntlet of protect the capsule/pod with some people. Nidus has great crowd control tools that actually boost his strength at the same time.
