I feel by the time you get super the match has already been decided.

It definitely is. In order to even get the supers for your team it requires that you are dominating absolute shit out of enemy team. Then you just chain supers and you lock that already guaranteed win in.

Is there any benefit to dismantling weapons or just to make space?

I imagine in release we will get mats for dismantling just like in D1, but they have disabled most of menus and features from this build.

Not even character creator.

First of all, forgive me for posting compressed 1080P jpg shots, it's still a bit difficult and shit to transfer the full quality PNG from console to web. But even these compressed shots will illustrate the things I want to talk about.

Anyways the game has a lot more light sources than ever seen in D1, and it renders lightsource that light the environment for pretty long distance despite the abundance of them on screen.

It also has area lights.

This last one I just liked.

Thx for the pics, the game looks gorgeous. Cannot wait to get home from the office and play.

You do not need to absolutely dominate for Supers. Even in my middling and poor games I get at least one.

Make space

Ran the Strike twice, dupes came
Everything perk wise is the same, so no reason to keep

Just dismantle, you get nothing for it though at the moment

Got some serious Deja Vu while playing this beta, and not the good kind.

Charging $60 for what amounts to a slightly better looking reskin with a story that is probably going to suck should not be ok with gamers.

But hey, do whatever you like with your money I guess.

I put way too much time into the first game and don't see myself getting Destiny 2.

You know there's only 3 exotics in the beta so it's not really worth playing it a whole ton?

EDIT: not trying to be a jerk just suggesting it's not really worth replaying for loot

I mean you're getting new story missions
New areas
New enemies
New weapons
New armor
New strikes
New Raids
New PVP maps
Better world spaces
Plus whatever else they aren't talking about.

This is absolute fucking suffering, these slow ability recharges, particularly for supers. Killed a ton of adds, shot boss a ton, and I see that the bar has barely filled. Come on, this is Destiny, the entire point was being a space magic-wielding badass.

And I really miss having a shotgun or sniper all the time. While it's cool to have a Hand Cannon and an SMG or something, it's not as exciting as the old system.

The strike boss feels like a vanilla D1 boss, so spongey.

Entirely underwhelmed so far and it's devastating. I thought D2 was going to be D1 perfected, but so far I think the first was more fun. I remember the D1 beta being a magical experience, this has just been an... experience.

Enjoying what I've played so far. The story mission is a major step up from anything story-related in the original game, and the Strike is really, really fun. Especially the boss and the changing arena.

Doesn't this encourage snowballing in PvP though?

Not really. That was more prevelant in D1. With only getting a super 1-2 times per match, its less of a problem.

I should also mention I HATED destiny 1 pvp. I thought it was clusterfuck in multiplayer form. Too many crazy weapons in play too often. Too many supers. Too many crazy abilities. It just felt so random and messy. netcode and horrendous auto aim as well.

I did have fun in Trials though because it was a smaller scale, tighter experience. Less of the bullshit was in play.

That's what gives me hope for D2 PvP. 2 primaries, one heavy. 4 v 4. Longer ability cooldowns.

At the beginning of Inverted Spire Strike go right for some surprises such as fighting "Honored Cabal," and high level Fallen as well. At one point I was fighting Vex, Fallen, and Cabal at the same time. I'm currently dead watching a massive battle between the Fallen and Cabal.

They definitely need to decrease the Super bar as right now it takes forever to get one and almost seems like performance barely makes a difference.

Crap I guess this is a spoiler for what story is in the beta:

Looks much more like the end of D1's campaign in scope so far from the beat campaign bits/strike. Bodes well for later parts of D2.

I have the new Nova Bomb velocity... it feel so... slow and wobbly ? So anticlimatic

It's that seeker bomb variant from D1, that also was slow and shitty. Added twist is that those seekers and that you can detonate it by firing to it with gun.

Just blink over enemies and shoot it to the ground so it instantly detonates.

Assuming you survive that nuts recovery time from blink to being able to do anything. Bungie really was traumatized by blinkshotty and now over nerfed blink.

I feel putting shotguns and to a lesser degree sniper rifles as power weapons are a mistake. Maybe it's just me having to adjust to D2. But, most of the changes I see scream "we did this because PvP". Oh well, beta is still fun.

My only real issue is the 2 sets of weapon types, instead of 3, really feels like its hugely lacking in my characters toolset of how I can take on situations. Give me more tools to fight badguys, not less!

Not to mention heavy ammo rarely drops (i saw it was addressed) plus scount and handcannons, and smg and auto, shoot in similar ways. I feel my options are single shot rifle, burst shot rifle, and automatic rifle. Sometimes I get to shoot something different, if the game feels like throwing me a bone.

Played the mission and strike with a Titan earlier (although 90% of D1 has been Warlock for me).

It looks great, sounds good. The story mission is definitely superior to every story mission in D1 in terms of pacing, urgency and feeling like you're actually affecting a wider narrative. Reminded me of a classic Halo mission tbh, and that's good for me.

Definitely noticed the weaker weapons/tougher enemies but this may well be due to the level? I also wasn't sold on two primaries - in D1 your special weapon gives you the option to change things up when things get hairy and bring out something more powerful; here I just had another primary weapon.

That, plus the extended ability cooldown (again due to level maybe?) meant at the strike boss I had several moments where I felt like there were no interesting decisions to make between how to play - just choose one or other primary and plug away.

I'm sure some of that is down to learning and understanding the class abilities on hand (I forgot that I even had a bubble at my disposal). I suppose on a normal playthrough as you naturally accrue abilities they will mesh together for me a bit more easily.

That said, I also wasn't keen on the character screen UI - the skill tree is harder to parse and the glossy look on everything feels like a real step back. However, I also think D1 had an incredible UI so may be biased!

Finally, the actual shooting felt a bit ... plasticy? Idk, but it felt lighter and more brittle than D1. Again, if there were some level effects in play that might explain why weapons weren't hitting so hard but I felt less connection between firing a weapon and hitting an enemy. This is problematic as it is that feel of Destiny that forgave it a multitude of sins.

So, bit concerned, but obviously will run through again on the other classes at least, and try some PvP.

Well I wanted to see if the Strike becomes more manageable after first time
As now you know what to do and how to prepare for it

Still there are faults that need to be corrected like Heavy ammo drops from enemies or adjusting enemy names/bar that sometimes get blurry as fuck, I have the feeling the bokeh effect has something to do with it

Also why not try to see what the drops are from Chest through the Strike

So far earned same Gauntlets twice, earned Elemental SR same one I already had and a PR elemental I didn't have

You didn’t even mention the Pikes or the Vex Warpgate shenanigans.

Those are the most fun in this beta.

What's your efficiency score averaging like?

I've run the gamut from less than 1.00 to as much as 3.5 or 4.00. For context, I usually avg around a 2.0-2.5 K/D ratio in FPS games.

Edit: I'll add too that PvP in D2 feels way more team reliant than in D1. It's much harder for a single player to hard carry a squad due to TTK being lower. If you're out-manned, you're much more likely to die no matter how much better you are than the other guys.

Yeah that's scripted to happen

When I redid the Strike, it took a minute and half before the chaos ensued
Hilarious to see all 3 factions just wage war

Then you show up to crash the party and all 3 stop fighting each other and hone in on you lol
Try to get a Pike and steamroll all of them lol

Played story mission with no problems, tried the strike and bam! hard lock of the PS4, had to disconnect supply.
Tried the strike again later, like 3 times, and no problem at all.

PS4 Pro on a 1080p set here, beast mode enabled.

As someone who skipped the first Destiny because it didn't seem like my thing, this beta really surprised me. Is the solo content in Destiny 1 as good as the mission in this beta? If so, is the game worth buying just to play through it so I'll know what's going on in 2? Or should I just wait for 2 because it's more of the same? Can the first Destiny even be run through solo in a month?

Wow, the strike is like a goddamn raid. Almost beat the last boss and we all died and the random left. Fuck.

that's the thing though, it was that "fun" factor that caused many of us to pour thousands of hours into the game. If this beta is a reflection of D2 then this game def won't hold me for anywhere near as many hours, Im shifting from the pre-order with the season pass to just the base game because of this beta.

Its your money. Honestly, that "fun" (one man army) hasn't been around since vanilla (sadly).

Im still all in, maybe not a thousand hours in, but in nonetheless.

Too bad the boss doesn't have even 10% of the complexity of a raid and is just a bullet sponge made worse due to the new weapon system.

Ever since the PC version was announced I was stoked to be able to play Destiny at a nice high framerate but I don't think I can wait for it's staggered release date.

Going into the first D1 raid blind at launch was one of the best multiplayer experiences I've had. I can't jump into D2 on PC and have a million tutorial/step by step videos on the raid already. Bungie y no character save transfer!!1

I think you're going to get some no answers here but I think it's still worth it.

The early solo stuff isn't great but it gets better with the House of Wolves expansion and pretty great with Taken King.

If you bought Destiny: The Collection this week, you'd have a crap ton of content to play for two months until Destiny 2. And the thing is only $40 now: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01K63R7HY/?tag=neogaf0e-20

This is why Raids will NEVER HAVE MATCHMAKING!

Once you get to Phase 3, save everything for last 10% shit becomes a DPS check of MMO fame
They throw so many adds and Boss just hurr durr stomp every few seconds that you need to massacre the field

Also positioning is key, if grouped up, GG, fission mailed

Haven't devs learned that no game can be forced to become an esport. It either happens or it doesn't.

There's nothing that suggests Bungie is trying to force esport. They made the changes because Trials of Osiris (3v3 one-life per round competitive mode) was extremely popular in the community. Newer players also often complained about the "wtf how did I just die?" feeling that the normal PvP modes gave them because of all the 1-hit kill guns and abilities that the more seasoned players always took advantage of.

Most people don't want blind matchmaking for Raids, man. They want in-game LFG.

But matchmaking should be available for every single other activity. Activities like Challenge of the Elders and the Daily/Weekly Story not having it as an option was ridiculous.

You can literally "run" through most of Destiny single player content and be done with the Vanilla story in a few hours. The pace and way this beta mission is laid out, is significantly better than original Destiny missions.
