Played the mission and strike with a Titan earlier (although 90% of D1 has been Warlock for me).
It looks great, sounds good. The story mission is definitely superior to every story mission in D1 in terms of pacing, urgency and feeling like you're actually affecting a wider narrative. Reminded me of a classic Halo mission tbh, and that's good for me.
Definitely noticed the weaker weapons/tougher enemies but this may well be due to the level? I also wasn't sold on two primaries - in D1 your special weapon gives you the option to change things up when things get hairy and bring out something more powerful; here I just had another primary weapon.
That, plus the extended ability cooldown (again due to level maybe?) meant at the strike boss I had several moments where I felt like there were no interesting decisions to make between how to play - just choose one or other primary and plug away.
I'm sure some of that is down to learning and understanding the class abilities on hand (I forgot that I even had a bubble at my disposal). I suppose on a normal playthrough as you naturally accrue abilities they will mesh together for me a bit more easily.
That said, I also wasn't keen on the character screen UI - the skill tree is harder to parse and the glossy look on everything feels like a real step back. However, I also think D1 had an incredible UI so may be biased!
Finally, the actual shooting felt a bit ... plasticy? Idk, but it felt lighter and more brittle than D1. Again, if there were some level effects in play that might explain why weapons weren't hitting so hard but I felt less connection between firing a weapon and hitting an enemy. This is problematic as it is that feel of Destiny that forgave it a multitude of sins.
So, bit concerned, but obviously will run through again on the other classes at least, and try some PvP.
