TEKKEN 7 |OT| How I killed your mother

Picked this up yesterday, finally. Where do I go to learn some Akuma shotgun combos?

I played with a friend last night and I guess there is no quick rematch option? What the hell where they thinking, that's so annoying.

Watch Chanel and Poongko matches for good Akuma play. Abuse demon flips and jumps as people are not used to dealing with aerial attacks in this game but just like with any 2D game if you do it blindly you'll get countered hard with a juggle.

Cool, I'll check Poongko out, he's a legend. Any suggestions for Kazumi? That's gonna be my main. They changed Lee a lot and he's too complicated for me anyway.

Played a chunk of online for the first time since just after they fixed the matchmaking after launch. Man, I have a blast, but when I lose and don't know why, I get a bit upset.

And when I say "don't know why" I'm referring to being constantly oki-ed and not knowing how to get up, or getting hit by the same starting hit whether I stand or crouch block or just being unable to counter fast pokes in general. I play as Yoshi and Cosmic Forge has offered great tips in the past, but I want to be able to know when to throw out certain moves and which popular moves from opponents are best countered by X or Y move etc. Any Yoshi specific channel for that?

any tips for doing law's and shaheen's slides consistently on pad? I can do it on 1p side but 2p side is just bad

I just pray that my opponent gets so shook by my first slide that they will fall for the mid launcher mixup when im on 2p side lol

On DS4 i only use the down button. The df you can input it with just that button too by tilting in to that side
Keep practicing the motion without inputting the 3 and look for the that small crouch dash animation timing and then go faster and faster

i do the same thing you do. I guess my thumb is disformed or something in a way that it can't hit the left part of the d-pad as well as the right part lol

I f you haven't put in the time then it's just normal to have it hard 1 side compared to the other
I also struggle with it on 2p

Finally got promoted again after winning like 11 of my last 17 games

Now I'm on a 7 losing streak again and may get demoted

Well time to get back into the lab.

I also just discovered that you can map triangle and square to whatever trigger you want, also square and circle etc which makes some of these moves super fucking easy. So much more tech I can do now.

Glad I could help. You know, I've been tooling around with the idea of streaming T7 Yoshi games, and offering advice when I can. But I'm one of those guys where everything sounds great in theory, but putting it to practice is another matter. I'm certainly no pro by any means, but I'll try to help.

And to illustrate my scrubbiness, my first advice is to learn to love the power crush. Once I realize that YOLO flashing in hopes of a counter aren't working for me, plan B is to power crush. Overly aggressive players tend to have a flow chart (esp lower ranks). Once you realize this, you can just powercrush your way into a momentum shift.

As for dealing with oki. Because I play a character that can really capitalize on bad oki choices, I often just play dead. Rarely do I use wakeup 3, as so many characters can crush lows. If they go for the easy extra damage - I'll take it for the safe get up. If they're lingering around waiting for me to do a wakeup kick, I'll quick rise into flash. So often they'll just run up and eat it.

As for which moves to use. I make heavy use of his d/f+1,2 strings. There is so much potential from this set of moves alone, it's almost abuseable. d/f+1, d/f+1,2, and d/f+1,2,d/b+2 are all legit flash bait on block (1ss only), which shuts down overly aggressive people. The backfist is a CH launcher (if they try to punish too soon), and the d/b+2 puts you in + frames if they punish too late. The whole thing is great. Then, there's the simple mindgame of d/f+1... d/f+4. This catches cheeky opponents who try to crouch punish thinking the backfist is coming.

I make liberal use of 3~4 as a gap closer. You have enough time to hit confirm whether to keep pressing buttons or defend, depending on if it hits/gets blocked. On hit -- I mix up rainbow drop, a low of some kind, or I start the d/f+1 tricks. On block, players love to jab in response, thinking they'll float you out of Dragonfly (never do 3~4~U outside of combos). This just opens them up to instant while standing flash or the low sweep that launches on counter hit (FC, d/f+4).

As far as popular moves and what to counter with. Do you mean on block? Stuff like snake edge and dragon tail are countered with his new "Manji Pistons" WS 2,1 launcher (1SS). Jack's debugger is so slow you can dash into kangroo kick to punish (or just WS 2,1). King's ankle cutter (FC,d/f+1) is now WS4-able by pretty much all characters now. Hopkicks in general? Punish with d/f+1,4.

Sorry for the 200 word Esse. Like I said, I'm toying with streaming at some point, it's easier to illustrate that way. As for other instructional channels, stay tuned. We got a guy who's putting together a complete, comprehensive video guide to Yoshi, breaking down stances and moves. This should blow way past anything you've seen in LUYG or other "guides"(there's tons of this crap on youtube). I'm also compiling a complete punishment google doc spreadsheet, showing Yoshi's punishment to every move in the game. It's a monster undertaking, but I'm hoping to get it done by the end of the year.

Fear of what an opponent might do is not good. You have to take risks and weigh the cost. Xiaoyu even more so, she cant get big damage without putting herself in real danger yet coming out of it like an action hero.

1,d+2 is also a natural combo, so that if you get a hit you can follow up with another attack.

I use AOP d+1 a bit more, because my local scene is quite good at blocking AOP 4~3 on predicted reaction. AOP d+1 is a safer if blocked and the CH of AOP d+1 is also nice.

AOP 3 CH, WS+2, RDS 1,4, f+2, f+2,1,4

I haven't spent much time with it, but Wall 1, d/f+1, RDS 4 is the most damage with momentum after to keep pressure.

RDS f+1+2 only parries high/mid punches

The 3+4 is interesting and seem to evade more than it should at times. I am not certain on its properties other than it is also a punch parry. Also that the entire animation is 25 frames so you can sorta spam it and not get whiff punished easily. Still playing with it myself. I can say that RDS 3+4 is very good at evading and I use it with b+3+4 to really create dizzying situations.

As nerfed as AOP is in T7, I am finding her RDS and spins to be the way to evade. I am sort of annoyed by people losing their junk over AOP. Especially veterans who never said a word till now, when Tekken 5/6 AOP was far FAR better.

I knew AOP felt different. I used to be able to duck all but a few special mids. Seems like everyone has a mid attack that can hit.

Thanks for the info on the rest.

Down forward 1 (left punch) is a great poke that's difficult to punish, and down forward 2 (right punch) is a launcher that ducks under high attacks. Just be careful about using the later liberally as it's punishable by just about every move in the game. 1+2 is a good quick punisher but it's lacking in range.
Oh, a good amount of info is summarized here.

What do you guys recommend for a good follow up juggle or easy attack to finish people off with dragunovs rage drive ?

It works , but you still get wifi soldiers :( I can't even finish a juggle in matchmaking it's that fast. Oh and the ranks have shifted since the 2 weeks me being away , kinda moved up where there is a ton of scrubs in high green, low yellow ranks.

Online is actually better now? Is this confirmed? It was particularly bad last night. It took forever to find matches and when I did the lag was jittery. I had to stop playing.

It's hard to tell from my experience as I was away for over 2 weeks, maybe it's the affects of the previous patch , but right now on PS4 in Europe I get games every 10 seconds.

Just bought the game yesterday but why can you only use the d-pad in menus? Makes it so I constantly have to go between PS controller and fight stick.

I can confirm that the pure blacks are back, and if you did not adjust your customs after the 1.03 washed-out grey patch, the colors will be back to as you set it before.

Venom. Know its a cheap alternative but besides the option and share haven't had any problems in other games. Works just fine during fights, but the stick wont work in any form of menus.

Just looked and there's a switch on the top to change from Left analog to digital pad. Does that not work?

I only asked because every modern stick I've seen has this toggle. That would be lame if it doesn't work.

It does and I tried, when set on the D-pad mode it doesn't register any input at all from the stick (tried with the input tester ingame). But its only contained to the game, in PS menus and other games it has worked fine.

I had old Vanilla side switch bug online. Dude had his Law back at the wall and fired up Rage Art. I held back and before it hit camera switched sides so I was holding forward. It hit and the game desynced in that moment.

Aris has mentioned this. He said when you're near the wall and they do a rage art, as long as you aren't recovering from something and HAVE to hold back, just neutral guard. NG doesn't get fooled by camera shenanigans.

Wtf are you me? There was no desync but that's exactly what happened to me and it was even against a Law player. I'm not sure if it was a bug but I was mixing him up at the wall with Xiaoyu RDS shenanigans and he did a wake up rage art. I was perfectly safe, so I thought. Suddenly I'm holding forward instead of back.
