Is PUBG a GotY contender?

Conan? Conan is a base building survival game like Rust. It's literally nothing like Battlegrounds lol
They all look the same to me.

I have no desire to play PUBG especially when i know it will be replaced with something similar a year or two from now just like the previous games, but don't let my opinion stop u guys from having fun.

so you're just shitposting, then. but, like, 'it's your opinion', so your complete ignorance re: PUBG and the entire survival game genre (two separate entities) is therefore okay. am I getting it?

PUBG isn't getting replaced. You'd know why if you knew anything about it, but that you think games like Rust and PUBG look 'the same to you' tells me you really don't

The Early access blocker for GOTY just needs to go away, no games are ever finished, what does 1.0 even mean these days? Like even AAA games can significantly change (see Destiny) with patches, like its release version is nothing compared to what they ended at. That was basically released as early access but without the flag.

PUBG is easily top 5 GOTY this year. No sweat.

Name a single game that wasn't "replaced" by a similar game a year or two later.

Not playing PUBG because another game will be released in the future is a pretty silly reason. Not playing it because its early access is similarly sill, not playing it because the concept doesn't sound fun is as fine a reason as any. Its definitely not a game for everyone, but its the best one of these to come out with a wide audience appeal.

Shit might as well say Virtua Tennis 4 is a FIFA clone then.

Lol @getting replaced by something similar. This is the de facto Battle Royale game. It's not getting replaced any time soon, especially considering it's going to have mod tools.

it would be a miracle if an early access generic survival game that looks like ps2 become a GOTY contender in the same year games like Zelda Botw, Resident evil 7, Yakuza 0, horizon, Evil within 2, and many more has come out

Competition is way too fierce, and I assume that top spot will be BOTW and Horizon duking it out.

And that's without even getting to stuff like Nier and some possible upcoming contenders like Wolfenstein 2 and Uncharted Lost Legacy, if that's counted

TFW a generic survival (wrong) game is better than the half decade hyped Zelda and Persona

Zelda was my GOTY before last week but I've had such an incredible time with PUBG lately that it's easily my GOTY. Specifically for the amazing experiences I've had playing the game. It won't be a miracle when PUBG gets GOTY nods here and elsewhere.
BTW, PUBG isn't a 'generic survival game', you should probably check it out some time, you might like it. I expect many people here to change their tune when PUBG is a console game with solid visuals

Nice way to show how you literally know absolutely zero about the game.
Also nice way to reveal you know the future too lmao

exactly my thought

i don't understand how PC gamers keep playing the same shit over and over and over

it's like a cycle, a shitty looking survival early access game that never gets finished and plays like a ps1 game comes out and everyone plays it, a year later, same shit comes out and they forget about the previous shit and go to the next shit

i honestly cannot tell a single difference between those games, i played some of them and they are identical

Man the shit posts here are great

never mind the console players begging for the same early access shit to come to console so they can try it

Not this year, no sir. With Horizon & Zelda? No. That's also not counting the comet that is about to hit in Super Mario Odyssey.

Feel free, anyone that has actually followed the game knows that it isn't going away any time soon. It's bigger than everything else that came before it.

I mean if you spent a whole 5 seconds researching instead of just doing empty shitposts you'd know that you are completely and utterly wrong in every account.

It's pretty amazing how some people appear to be proud of their wilful ignorance.

I mean, I haven't played PUBG, I have no desire to play PUBG, and I'm not even sure I am particularly happy about the meteoric success it is having and how that might influence the upcoming gaming landscape.
But to deny that success, or that potential influence, or the fact that the game resonates hugely with a very significant portion of gamers -- is just silly at this point.

dude, you don't know what you're talking about, not even a little. You don't even know enough about PUBG not to mistake it for survival games and yet you think you're qualified to pass judgement about it.

Between agreeing with a blatant shitpost and proving beyond a shadow of a doubt that you don't know what you're talking about, you're on a roll.

PUBG has already far eclipsed anything like it, both in terms of sales and reach, including survival games, which aren't like PUBG. It's clearly going to become the defacto game within its genre and won't simply be 'replaced' as other, less polished, less accessible, less grounded games have been. Everything surrounding the game supports this reality, which you're utterly ignorant to. Please keep the shitposts to yourself.

I looked in the lexicon under shitposting and found this.

The second post one could easily rewrite with console players and buggy AAA releases.

DayZ... Still in early access.

H1Z1 King of the Hill... Still in early access.

The Culling... Still in early access.

Now PUBG. Although I really hope this one to be completed and release by the end of the year since it offers a more action/shooter oriented gameplay.

I don't think it could face other multiplayer games like Overwatch or Destiny 2. And I don't think it could stand against games like Zelda, Horizon, Mario, Persona 5, Nier...

PUBG is much further along than any of those games, you know. There's no real danger of PUBG succumbing to development hell.

I'm honestly not surprised by some of the replies in this thread, to an extent I was like this before I played PUBG. At its very surface without doing any research, it's a $30 Early Access title, compared to H1Z1, which has gotten a lot of flak in the past. PUBG is also not optimized performance-wise, and doesn't look aesthetically pleasing at first glance.

Obviously I'd urge anyone with a decent PC to do some research on the game and maybe give it a go for 2 hours on Steam, and refund it if you're not a fan. I remember hearing Jeff from Giant Bomb praising it, which is what suddenly got me interested, since he's not the type to fall for the scammy Early Access BS easily.

God, there's a lot of angry people in this thread for reasons???

I don't see why not. If people enjoy it and think it's their, GotY, sure!

And I know certain sites have rules about EA stuff, so if the game hits 1.0 this year, sure!

Right now my GOTY is still Nier, but PUBG would definitely be on my list.

I see nothing wrong or crazy about that???

Please to be demonstrating these excellent PS1 titles that look and play like PUBG. We’ll all wait here.

And there isn't any specific PUBG event or anything like that going on right now, as far as I am aware. That's just standard.

wow how high wow fallen from grace

really need new spark in the mmo market

Just curious. Is the community for this game considered toxic?

Eh, I'm not sure. You can't talk to other people in game unless you are grouping. Unless you mean PUBG specific forums, then I don't know. I haven't seen any issues though.

edit: I completely forgot there were mics in the lobby. I must have turned those off when I started playing.

Depends, the reddit for the game is full of whiny dramaseekers but the people in the early access thread on here is good people to team up with.

I would not recommend joining a random squad through in-game matchmaking if you want to play squad instead of solo and I would not recommend having global voice communications on in game at least not on starter island where pretty much a 30+ people just screams slurs at the top of their throats.
