No Man's Sky - Atlas Rises |OT| Nada, Polo and you no longer fly solo

It sure does lool like a jackpot to me))))))))

Furthermore, in about 2-3 hours from the start of the game i've met an alien who gave me multi-tool with 24 slots as a replacement for giving him my shitty starter multi-tool (thanks bro! much appreciated!), plus just yesterday i've found a crashed fighter ship with 36 (!!!) slots so I guess this count for 2 jackpots in a row))))))

Can't find (or buy) any technology for my exosuit and multi-tool through which is kinda shitty, especially considering that i've spent 17 hours in the game already. Any tips?

Now that you have best level multi-tool.

Consider checking this out.

I swear, I've made 15 jumps to different systems and no one is selling Thamium9. I just got the Trophy for 30 jumps, at least... I guess I'll have to farm Th9 manually :/

They don't sell it because it's one of the most abundant elements in the game. You will find it in asteroids and as a secondary element of plutonium (all you have to do is scan it, and you'll see if it contains Thamium9).

So what's the consensus about the new galactic map amongst NMS veterans? An improvement or not?
I'm not really digging it (yet). Finding it really hard to navigate, really needs some fine tuning imo.
It is better. It's unwieldy and could just use a guided tutoriial when you first open it.

A lot of the UX could be solved with it just starting without your current system selected and explaining how to select/deselect it onscreen (it's Circle).
So it's unclear to me how multiplayer in the new patch works. Does it just work automatically if you're online? If you and another player happen to be on the same planet at the same spot you can see each other's light orbs? Nothing else special has to be done to enable this?
Think so, but managing that is a bit of a task- how do you guide each other to that exact position without "doing anything else special?" Most people that experience this will, I imagine, meet near the portal on their planet.
Turns out there was some literally 10m from my starting signals post haha. Though I have noticed the drop off on scanned items is way shorter than when I played it at launch, has that changed in one of the patches?
Scanner range is upgraded by tech if that's what you mean?
Sweet. I was hoping it would be like this. Battlestar style. :>

Also holyshit one billion units.

And in those little red flowers.

Some captains do sell it though.

Is it worth it to buy a cheap freighter and work my way up to a better one, or buy a more expensive one first of all? I'm at a point where I can afford a cheap 80-90mil one, but don't want to splurge if I should be saving my units for one more in the 100+ range.

IMO if you see one you like that you can afford, it's totally worth getting. If the only option you can afford is one you hate them keep saving.

Does NMS have a core game loop yet?

Got spaceships.

And plants.

That's about it

E: animals too.

E2: well, "animals"

So glad this game mirrors real life. Found a gorgeous freighter last night I loved.

Commonly found? Sure. Abundant? Not so much.

Yes, you can find Thamium9 in asteroids and red plants on planets... but each one yields around 10 to 20 units per. Getting to the thousands that you need to make 60 jumps between systems is a grind. It's not like Carbon or Plutonium, which can be gotten in the thousands in a matter of half an hour.

I move to a low-gravity planet. Hopefully red plants are more common here. If not, I'll go back to blasting asteroids again.

The new main story quest (which seems great a few hours in) means the mining/selling/upgrading loop is no longer meaningless. It has structure and long term progression.

Side quests add another layer of structure within that. You don't have to explore for exploration's sake - you can use a side quest to justify some exploration and sight seeing (some even take you to other star systems). Side quests are basically kill animals/robots, visit a distant planet/system, find and scan a new resource/element. Think there are more i haven't seen/unlocked.

On top of that, you have a load of features that make it way more detailed, increasing immersion (making the loop generally more engaging): lots more aliens to talk to, aliens milling about, surprisingly fun base building, easier travel, better dogfighting, the ability to call in "police" support, more big space battles, more and better upgrade options, etc.

Imo the "core" gameplay loop hasnt changed TOO much (although it has improvements - and wasn't necessarily too bad in the first place) but everything around it has been improved so much it's propped up brilliantly.

I have the most luck buying from NPCs that dock in freighters. I've seen them sell upwards of 200 at a time, maybe give that a try?

Remember to scan all elements you find.

On most planets Plutonium has Thamium as a secondary element - so you get 10-20 thamium for every 50-100 Plutonium.

It stacks up much faster.

EVERYONE should be harnessing the new Secondary element feature. It's invaluable.

I had attempted to start the game in hardcore survival mode, but after several failed attempts at balancing plutonium, carbon, and iron to sustain life support and ship balance, I decided to try out normal mode.

God damn. Normal mode throws five times the amount of materials at you at every turn, cooldowns are substantially faster, and things degrade much more slowly. Being able to explore without fear of immediate death has already allowed me to explore more of the developed cultures, and I've already learned so much that I was ignorant of just hours earlier.

I really want to proceed with the survival mode, but it's clear that I should learn the ropes in normal mode first. Also, it makes more sense to actually start next to my crashed ship in normal mode as opposed to a 10 minute walk away as in survival.

I got my exocraft yesterday. I wasn't expecting it to actually be fun to drive, but it is! I enjoy seeing how much hang time I can get boosting off a cliff and jumping. I didn't like the controls at first but I got used to them.

I hope they can add procedural elements to them so that you can find different designs like we can with ships.

Just wanted to send a massive THANK YOU to Sean Murray and his team for not abandoning ship after the storm and continue to deliver on their original intentions. No Man Sky is almost a new game today. Again, thank you. I hope other developers--when in similar situations, follow your example.

They're really fun yeah, and the jump is hilarious! They'd be perfect if not for the DAMN INVINCIBLE TREES ALL OVER THE PLACE. SINCE WHEN IS IT REASONABLE TO BE ABLE TO CRUSH MASSIVE ROCKS BUT NOT SMALL TREES?!? :lol

Let me crush trees and not get a single carbon and everything is forgiven HG!

My current planet is mostly barren so it hasn't been an issue. Driving through a cave is pretty fun though.

This makes me want for planets to have varying degrees of gravity though.

Wait a minute.... this is for the purposes of making a bunch of jumps?

Do you have an AtlasPass v1?

Question.

I've only replaced my multi tool once. A class pistol with 10 slots that polo and nada were slangin

It has +53% base mining stat (why I love it)

At this point I've been offered "better" tools. All rifles and worth 1-3M, versus my little A class buddy at 750k. They all had 20-25 slots but none had any boost to mining stats.

Is that just not a thing with rifles? Am I destined to never find a suitable replacement?

Like ships different type guns are better at certain things. Pistols are better for mining, rifles are more of a combat gun. So yeah, if you want a rifle that has mining bonuses, if you even find one it is not going to be as good as an equivalent pistol.

So far in survival any planet I got to that has a speck of grass is full of Sentinels, should I keep looking for one without them or is this standard procedure for all garden world's?

Hmmmmmm maybe just some bad rng then. Even the pistols I've seen never have the mining boost.

Do polo and nada update stock ever?

Thamium9 is never sold in space stations. Only aboard freighters or on planets. Same with Carbon and Iron.

Find a Wealthy system and merchants on Freighters will will sell 100-400 at a time.

Oh fuck this is annoying and fucked up i need to travel all the way back to where my first base was and complete the base missions there >.>

Anyway enjoying the game alot so far but i hope those quest bugs get fixed asap it's very annoying. Maybe make it so you can cancel them sort off to be abke to generate a new one in the system or base you are at.

Upgraded my exosuit with more heat and cold resitance and being able to survive longer without life support and the game becomes way more manageable now, i also just get thanium9 and iron out of meteors and astroids and buy plutanium from vendors and collect a bulk on planets.

Playin normal mode first is highly recommended imo you learn the ropes there and use em in survival for the harder and better experience. It gets to the perfect between normal and survival difficulity after you upgrade your stuff a bit and keep track of your resources and money.

Words can't describe what HG have done to this game since release.
I really hope they continue improving it to the point were I get a VR version for PS5.

I think I'm losing it. I didn't notice you need it for warp cells. That's why I kept running out :D Has that always been the case? As you say, dead planets used to be natures fuel station. And now I find myself standing in one spot for 15 minutes trying to work out how to get to my ship. Which admittedly I love :D

Got a 38 slot A-class worth only 11 million. Slot repair up to 700k+ each. No good ships landing in stations or at my base launch pad :(

This is news to me! I have a rifle but I don't know its bonuses, it's probably a C so terrible all around. But since it's 24 slots and I have maxed it with different mining abilities, nothing combat worthy at all, sentinel drones go down in 2 seconds and the sentinel guard dog in maybe max 4. The bonuses can't be that cool, eh?

Edit: I met a dude called Captain Cok :lol Childish I know, but still funny.

I have to say the freighters are one of my favourite addition to the game.

Warping into a new system I just saw the biggest fucking spaceship I've ever seen and it looked absolutely badass. Unfortunately it was 300,000,000 units.

So eh... any way to make a quick buck in this game?

Any tip for space battles? Two times I've been in a fight, and once I was destroyed and the other had to run to a Space Station 'cause I was about to die. Yesterday a convoy was being attacked but I didn't help due fear of being killed again :(

Anyone have their base move locations on the same planet after a save? I created a base, and then later went to a point of interest about 20 seconds away for a technology quest. I saved at the point of interest and closed the game. When I came back and loaded my save the base was on the opposite side of the planet now.

It's not a big deal, but now half the rooms in my base have plants clipping through the floors.

Yeah, I always check both the robot merchant and the traders. So far, no luck. I'll try to search for a wealthy system. Thanks for the tip!

Yeah, I'm trying to do all the jumps I have left for the Trophy, so I can get that out of the way.

Do you have an AtlasPass v1?

No, I don't. Should I get one? To be honest, I had started my game back when the Pathfinder update was released. I played a bit, moved a couple of systems forward, and then dropped the game when other stuff started to come out. When I came back to the game with this update, the main quest was a few systems behind, so I didn't even bother with it. I can now go back to my starting point and pick it up again. Why is the Atlas Pass v1 so important?

So i decided its time to get a new ship. Will never sell my old school fighter with 48 slots, so i landed in my freighter and waited for a crapy ship to land to buy it. Another fighter landed with 16 slots, costed 700k so i bought it. Grabed the new ship and headed to the next planet, pressing right on the d-pad to lock on tangets i lock on a crashed Hauler, seems big lets take a look. 47 slot Hauler, instant 16 million increase in value compared to my crapy 700k ship. Now, using the hauler as a trade in i can get a better discount in my future ship. But still searching for those new class S ships that i cant find anywhere.

Not traders on space stations. They'll never have it. Traders on Freighters. They always will have it.

Best late game... which I'm guessing you're not at yet but knowing that Freighters can still be affordable later is encouraging.

Mid game method... I'm doing it endgame alongside farming (while stuff grows) as well.

Plus, space station Missions are actually pretty decent. The ones you get with higher faction level that ask you to kill some stuff, once you have a decent B class fighter ship or something (even with no upgrades) as long as you're always carrying >5 zinc/titanium you can handle a lot of dogfighting pretty decently and some of them pay out pretty solidly.

Why is the Atlas Pass v1 so important?

As far as I remember, around launch version, it allowed you to access the loot of certain crates that tend to have minerals and access to certain doors in the Space Stations (Most used to have a station to upgrade your exosuit). Never got anything beyond Atlas Pass v1 and no idea if it had changed it's purpose.

Well, I went back to where the main quest was and got myself a v1 Pass. I'll see what it unlocks for me ;)

Set it to max fps in game, then enable triple buffering and vsync (if required) in Nvidia settings.
