Summer Anime 2017 |OT| More streaming services than shows to watch

Zero was a set of prose novels (not sure if it was a light-novel imprint - I seem to remember it might have initially been event-sales only) rather than a Visual Novel, though arguably it benefits from the setting work established in F/SN. Then again, with the way that Type-Moon historically presented their games, I'm not sure it's that big of an advantage beyond not having an editor force Nasu to cull unnecessary excess.
I know Fate/Zero was originally a (light) novel when it came out; I was actually referring to Fate/Zero: The Adventure, which was a little-known "what-if" VN for iOS that came out in 2013. That said, upon further analysis, that VN was mostly made up of screenshots of the anime with a few original scenes for the new content they added. My point in bringing it up (even if it didn't really help make this point) was more to illustrate that the art design of Fuyuki was already well established by the time animated adaptations came about, which undeniably helped both ufotable and even Deen.

Apocrypha being a LN means it's primarily text, and as such while it might spend some time lending atmosphere to a scene, I doubt the prose provides much detail as to how the environments look, especially for such non-descript locations as a forest or a rocky plain. That said, I'm less forgiving of this because earlier this season Castlevania did such a fantastic job of portraying an apocolyptic Transylvania through its grotesquely gorgeous art design, where as Apocrypha feels lacking outside of a few key locations (like Darnic's castle, Shirou's church, or Clock Tower).

Things got really crazy towards the end of the show, and this clearly isn't the end of the story they wanted to tell, but it was a pretty nice wrap up for everything that occurred. A bunch of things started to come out towards the end, like the emotions of both Fe and the other contractors, as well as how Hei is not
a contractor....whaaa? I mean, he used all his sister's powers up to that point... Did she leave his body to prevent the explosion, or did Amber just turn back time to give enough a change to destroy their chance to use the particle beam with his sister's power?
A little confusing there, but this was a pretty interesting experience from start to finish, so I'll take it.

Is the 2nd season really complete crap though?

That's fair enough. I mean, it's been a long time since I've read the original Fate and at a certain point they diluted the brand enough that I found it hard to continue caring haha.

That being said, I do wonder if it's actually more of the later - again, long time since I've played Fate, but I seem to recall that the number of distinct location images that the VN actually has is fairly limited, and particularly in the ufotable version of Unlimited Blade Works, a lot of the locations used in the anime were completely new or vastly exanded. There may not be much in it beyond straight-up staff who're better at that kind of thing or who had more development time on it.

(That also being said, I've not watched any Apocrypha yet - got way too much to watch already without straying into greyer areas of content acquisition)

From what I heard it really jumped the shark like Tokyo Ghoul and E7AO.

Watch it and judge for yourself.
The second season's crazy nonsense ending is quite different from the first season's crazy nonsense ending, so it has that going for it.

Oh, sounds interesting.... I might just put it off like the other 100 2nd seasons I haven't bothered to watch yet....

I don't think I have it in me to watch more Casshern Sins though...

Pick my next anime guys...

I found it impossible to make it past episode two and usually my tolerance for crap is very high. The second season of that show is something else.

Does it completely rewrite everything that happened in S1? Does 201 get to hook up with Chief?
To be specific, it switches focus to some new characters and Hei becomes more of a support character. He starts the show in a low place and eventually gets better through the power of character development. It's more serialized. But like the first season, it also flies off the rails at the end.

And he still doesn't hook up with Chief.

In This Corner of the World:

Awesome film. Probably my favorite movie I've watched this year. I did feel the beginning was a bit disjointed/tough to follow and
The little girl felt thrown in at the end to give us a happy ending.
but overall 9/10. Loved it.

Durarara!!:
Watched the whole thing and I guess I just do not get the hype for this. One of my other communities had members absolutely crazy for this, maybe all glorifying it set up for impossible expectations. I also really don't think Celty is all that strong a female character, not when
She forgives Shinra for lying to her about not knowing where her head is. Women I'd describe as strong wouldn't exactly take kindly to a big lie like that, even if he did it because he was afraid she'd leave him.

Oh well, now I'm trying Gargantia. Liking this a lot so far. I mean, I kinda dislike the Mecha design, but the first two episodes really held my attention.

Regarding the ending:
It's been a while but as far as remember Amber had two plans in stock.
Plan A was for Hei to use his sisters power to repeat what happened in South America and destroy the gate. This has the benefit of permanent safety for all contractors since the evil guys won't be able to use the gate ever again. The downside is that the destruction of the gate will kill a bunch of people.
Plan B was for Amber to use the last of her power to send Hei back in time a bit so he can destroy the particle beam thingy. This saves the contractors for now but is not a permanent solution since the gate still exists.
Amber prefers plan A because it offers a permanent solution. Hei however isn't ok with sacrificing all those people so refuses. Amber accepts Hei's decision and executes plan B (due to her premonition powers she must have know this would happen).

Season 2 is pretty different but has a kick ass electro rock OST.

I'm not sure I have the patience for moe school girls driving around tanks.... I'm pretty sure I tried watching the first couple episodes when I first started watching anime and was focused mostly on shipping and lost interest pretty quickly.

I'll think about it....

Booo, those two were made for each other!

People are just salty their Batman turned into a drunk.

There are cute girls ! OP&ED are great ! Animation is good, maybe even better than S1

Clearly time for Shigurui.

OH? Interesting development in the story I guess... Does Fe continue to grow at least? I still have Shigurui on my list when I started Casshern Sins, maybe I'll replace Casshern with it. hmm..

Xenoglossia.
I mean, look at us cool guys with our cool jokes cos we all in on the Xenoglossia. You know you want to be a part of it.

I'm just an uncool dude that has no interest in watch damn idol shows. Now, if plotting serial murders of said idols was the plotline (from the good guy or bad guy perspective) then we might have a deal. That or maybe a remake of the original White Album with the dude messing with the entire group of idols.....

Have you watched Upotte yet?

More moe girls with guns, but with a LOT of ecchi...... huh?

Because everyone in this thread is a deep thinker with sharp critical analysis skills. There's no place for enjoying anything that's less than perfection in artistic expression. We constantly look down on anyone who even dares to just have fun with subpar works because it lowers the high elitist barrier that must be upheld to keep the unwashed masses from tainting the appreciation of true art.

u just sound mad that everone's crapping on Game of Thrones for being crap, bro

It's basically a sports anime where the first few episodes are about getting the team and its equipment (tanks) together before moving on to a tournament arc. If you can get past the intentionally absurd concept, it's a lot of fun.
Booo, those two were made for each other!
The show doesn't pair them off with anybody else by the end, so there's still a chance!

I think most of the DRRR!! hype came from the first series and how different and strong impression it made back in the day and somewhat there after. Though the story finished, I think lots of fans and such fell off since the long period from s1 to s2 happened.

Also it is great, Narita is up there with Takaya Kagami and Tsutomu Sato for the best writers in the medium.

The premise of this entire mission makes no sense. Dorothy should have been the last person taking that job, not first choice.
Can't really feel all that bad for her dad although the last scene was quite chilling.

Moose Biscuits

It would be extreamly painful...
Can anyone here with a crunchyroll sub try playing episode 2 of Flip Flappers to check whether this issue I'm having with the video constantly freezing is just me? I've tried restarting my console, but it seems there's a bunch of episodes in the middle missing thumbnails and I'm assuming they might have the same problem.

It's not an idol shows. It's a mech show and Sunrise's not so secret best show in their Gundam series.

It has potential, but does it use the same type of humor as OPM? Lazy hero, blah, blah, blah.... I really got bored with OPM....
It's not like OPM at all.

Easier to watch it (besides, that means witnessing one of the best OPs and EDs), but if I had to explain, imagine Power Rangers, but remove all the fighting bits and during the SoL bits, they are still wearing their power ranger costumes and everyone is totally undaunted by this because it's totally normal. Oh and the bad guys are also on Earth rather than in that moon base place they were in.

Actually that probably confused matters even more. It's not like OPM, humour is different, the reason for being bored is different (also it's technically more annoyed than bored) and it more skews towards SoL rather than a parody of battle shows. Just watch it.

From the Eromanga VR app link:

Gugenka are the creators behind the recent Re:Zero VR app that allows users to rest their head in either Rem or Emilia's lap.

I find it funny how creatively bankrupt companies continue flooding the VR market with vapid moe apps. I mean, at least offer some equal opportunity in that Re:Zero thing and have Puck as an alternate option.

Still, who ever comes up with a VR alarm clock, of all things? Imagine going to sleep with your $400 headset on, accidentally breaking it and then oversleeping as a result? "Sorry shachou, but due to unforeseen circumstances my imouto just wasn't able to wake me up in time today. Moushiwakegozaimasen".

Yeah, her whole thing was that she was a strong female character for the most part, but she'd go into deep dere territory as soon as Shinra was involved, which made her look pretty dumb and childish and really unermined her character for me. The show as a whole was still entertaining as a whole, but the second season felt way too unfocused, and its climax a lot less satisfactory than what we had gotten in the first season's finale.
