Powerball jackpot climbs to $700,000,000 for Wednesday’s drawing

It's only irrational if you are spending money you can't afford to spend. 10 tickets is 10 times more likely to win than 1. 100 tickets is 100 times more likely to win. If a couple hundred thousand dollars is meaningless to someone then why not? /shrug
Of course that starts reaching the point of "I'm already well off and it'd bring unwanted attention, why bother?" If I was making 100k a year in a comfortable, secure job I wouldn't be bothering. Hell, I think I'd rather just get 2000 or even 1000 a week rather than win a massive jackpot because you'd have enough to live well or at least keep a home, without all that damn attention.

Great, the Lotto just sent me a survey asking me what the current Powerball jackpot was. Oh well, got that one wrong. I'm hoping this one goes to 1 billion like the last one. Either way, I'm buying my ticket.

I'll probably buy a couple tickets by Wednesday if I remember. I bought a couple last week and still haven't checked them. With my luck (lol) if I were to win I'd drop dead immediately or slip into a coma for 50 years or some shit, hell I won a hundred bucks back in 2012 and shortly after cashing it in nearly broke my face slipping/tripping on a curb... Ended up just spraining my shoulder blocking myself from going face first into a row of shopping carts, that was an unpleasant couple of weeks.

So if you take the lump sum of 443 million, how much more is the government taking off of that?

Federal will be 25% up front, then there's state taxes if applicable but what you do is hire a great tax lawyer or two and get out of paying as much as possible.

If I win, I'll give everyone in this thread 1K.

It costs me nothing to quote you. Good luck!

I love buying tickets at times like these because the time spent thinking what I'd do if i were that rich is well worth the few dollars i spend on a ticket.

As for my actual plan if - scratch that - when I win, is to buy a private island in Belize.

Serious question guys, can somebody from another country or someone who is not from de USA can win this? and is there any way to buy a lottery ticket from outside the US like from a legit Website?

I mean, maybe there are stats but they literally don't matter. Every number has an equal probability of being called in any slot, right?
I believe though if you personally pick numbers especially around birthdays you have a significant higher chance of sharing the prize

It's irrational because it doesn't increase your odds of winning by any relevant amount.

Now what's the next step in your master plan?
Guys he said he was going to give everyone in this thread $1000 dollars, not that each of us gets $1000. The more people posting the less money we actually get.

Millennial here trying to ruin the lottery industry next.

How do you even buy a lottery ticket? Can you do it online?

I was asking the same thing earlier. Apparently you can't??

No purchasing online, no purchasing from an app, no weekly subscription purchasing or anything like that. Mother fuckers are killing their own damn industry.

"Killing" as if this shit isn't up to 3/4ths of a billion dollars right now.

I very rarely buy lotto tickets, but usually when it gets up to some absurd amount, I'll buy one just to join in the frenzy. And then, when I lose, I consider it a small donation to my city's schools, roads, and sidewalks.

I was interested in lotto statistics and looked up to find that about 70% of Americans in their 20s and 30s play the lottery at least once a year. Imagine if 70% of people in their 20s and 30s voted at least once a year.

If voting counted towards Powerball, it'd be a miracle.

posting in here so I can claim my 1k when that poster wins.

otherwise, we can all dream the marvelous dream of oodles of money. The one where I buy an entire neighborhood of cheap housing and sleep in a different home every night.

Hmm sounds like a business opportunity for some disruptive innovation.

An extra $10 dollars of tax I'm paying this year, I guess. Can't put a price on hope, followed shortly thereafter by disappointment.

If I win I'll use 10k to pay off the rest of my student loans

Then I'm just gonna quit my job and play with my cats while the rest sits in a bank or something

A giant chunk of lottery profits in the state of Georgia goes to fund education (to the tune of 1.1 billion dollars in fiscal 2017), so I don't feel bad about being idiot taxed at all. I throw maybe 50 bucks at the lottery every year. It's fun to dream. Someone's gonna win it, why not me? Someone's also going to get a rare brain tumor, that might be me too. That one is less fun to dream about... maybe I could worm my way into a sympathy menage.

As someone who works at a gas station, please do your research and know what you're buying when you go in to buy Powerball. There is nothing that holds up lines more than someone who doesn't know what they're doing. Also, once a ticket is printed it can't be cancelled, so know what your buying so you don't potentially stick a store with a cash loss. One last thing: these jackpots are the result of astronomical odds against you winning. Spoiler alert: you won't win

If I win, I'll give everyone in this thread 1K.

This thread would get to 20k posts so quickly, most of which would be unique users, so you'd have to pay probably around $19 million.

I'd be much cheaper than that and create a thread giving away a $60 game to anyone that posts.
