Yakuza developers announce "Fist of the North Star" game (PS4, 2018, more at TGS)

You two contradict each other. I dunno who or what to believe.

It's a Fist of the North Star game by the Yakuza developers and with a system inspired by the Yakuza series and the story rewritten to fit that format. The Japanese title of this game is "Hokuto ga Gotoku", while the Yakuza series is called "Ryu ga Gotoku".

So I just did a bit of research and realised that the Fist of the North Star manga has never been completely released in english. Officially I mean.

The fuck is up with that?

I ask myself the same thing. I bought almost the entire Japanese run back in the early 2000s and dont regret it. Took some help from a friend to conplete the set.

Damn thats pretty cool.
I wish they made a Gintama game though. It would be a perfect fit for a Yakuza game.

So this game is called " Like the North Star" in Japanese.
Yakuza is called "Like a Dragon" in Japanese.

Huh, didn't realize I died and went to heaven.

Cuz as a Fist of the North Star fanboy (who can't even remember most of the characters names) this all I ever wanted.

OH.

MY.

GOD.

*head explodes*

I mean...ever since I played the first Yakuza, I had an idea that these guys could probably do a HNK game justice. Yakuza pretty much was a video game adaptation of Souten no Ken, just with Yakuza instead of Triads. But then it seemed like Sega didn't have the license anymore after the fighting game had its run, and we got rather ho-hum Musou game and its mediocre sequel in the meantime...!

I NEED THIS NOW.

I did not know I wanted a Fist of the North Star Yakuza style game. I sort of enjoyed the two musou games before but this looks way better. Plus Kiryu's voice actor as Kenshiro is perfection.

Its time for ペルソナが如く after this game.

Gimme a Yakuza/Persona crossover, dammit!

Question for FOTNS fans:

I've seen the original OVA and loved it. Haven't watched the original series (I've read it's bad, though that may just be from a technical perspective). I looked up the manga and it seems only like half of it has been translated? What's recommended to get more into the series

This looks so good! The gif's really sold me on it. I can't wait to hear the soundtrack to go along with the game. I can only imagine it's going to be stellar.

The series isnt bad in a sense beyond it's mediocre toei animation. It's super campy (Id argue the manga is as well)

Watch the show, if you dont like it, watch the movie.

Sad there is not Akira Kamiya for voices but i guess he is too old or too expensive given his rating.

He actually retired from the role a long time ago. That's why he never reprised it and we had a whole bunch of other actors taking over the role.

all my loli wolf companions are so moe
Essentially it's a what-if story. Since it doesn't follow the manga makes me wonder how Rei ended up here.

wasn't he already having vocal chord problems? Hope he recovers

Now what's the next step in your master plan?

FotN is pretty dated in general but it basically invented the modern shounen story in a lot of ways but it can also get very repetitive. The anime series would be the way to go, Uncle Phil even voiced one of the villains in the dub but I can't remember if the whole thing was brought over and dubbed.

Fist of the North Star was an anime? I thought it was a movie.

Alright, I'll have to check out the series at some point

I just remember when I first looked into FOTNS I read that the OVA was an apology for the animation/lack of violence in the anime series so I steered clear. I think I was missing a decent amount of context for the OVA but I still really enjoyed it

Man, I've always slept on FotNS games but this looks legit. Especially after playing Yakuza 0 for the first time last month.

たたたたたたたたたたたたたたわたー 北斗百裂拳!

Tatatatatatatatwataa! Hokuto hyakuretsuken!
You're already dead.

As someone who read the whole manga... fucking hyped.
Should be much better than the two musou games.

What do mean 'how did rei' end up here?
He is looking for the man with the 7 scars on his chest silly

Just warning. At least in my opinion first arc of the anime is by far the worst one. It gets better after that.

That's completely ignoring part 2...

Dont listen to these negative nancies, watch it as a campy action show, a d understand the time period it was in. It's a lot of fun.

manga is also great, every frame is a fucking metal album cover
