Palmer Luckey is now mentor for 3 VR accelerators (Tokyo, Seoul, Nordic VR Startups)

Oh God no, please don't let that happen.

So you are more of a Emilia person huh.

I always wanted to try VR but not anymore. Don't want to support this dirtbag. PSVR is still untouched but him, right?

I'm not quoting that picture again but his girlfriend has to be either REALLY into him, or just there for the money if he dresses up like that.

I'd be completely destroyed if I tried to dress up like that.

His girlfriend is

A) a cosplayer
B) also a white supremacist
C) a self-professed "shitlord"

She's dressed up as Gamergate's mascot before, which I'd personally say is a lot worse.

I just can't get mad at him because:

1. I just got an OR on sale and I love it.

2. He wants to finance the Rem spin-off anime adaptation.

3. He is dressing as Rem and creating Rem awareness.

4. Helping fellows to do waifu VR games, which I enjoy.

Even Shuhei likes him!

So you are more of a Emilia person huh.

Here, have some more GAF attention and schadenfreude you are desperately craving:

You sound like you want to swoop in and save her or something, she's probably a bigger weirdo and just as racist as he is.

White supremacists have fucked up views about asians, how they are smarter than white and black people and their womenfolk are more subservient so they make better mates than white women.

No, they think whites are smarter than Asians and colonization + conquer via war in the past helps to bring up Asian civilizations despite the destruction they inflicted to nations.

They go for Asian women for participation trophies whereas they view white women as prizes, that's why they value ethic gene preservation and sees Asian women as sex toys rather than human beings.

Oh right someone told me this! She and him were Quiet in another pic!

So she's just as bad as him.

Ew no what the heck dude? I was just wondering why she was along for the ride.

Especially since she would know if he was a White Supremacist.

Is there a particular reason people are bringing up the bikini thing?

Talk about his fucking abhorrent views; there's no reason to bring bodyshaming and implied transphobia into this.

I remember watching a crime show that spoke about that topic lightly. Men would seek White Women as wives and have the Asian Females "Their play-toys". Man, the media really messes you up.

Even if its an awesome new tech VR-related?
You can hate the guy, but come on, tech itself did nothing to deserve this.
Had the nazis created the first car in human history, would you never drive one?
What is it with people coming up with stupid what ifs when it comes to white supremacists

I know I shouldn't be but I'm honestly surprised there are people here on GAF still defending this guy.

Palmer Luckey seems to gain power from GAF's hate. Like, the more GAF hates him, the more powerful he seems to become. He's like reverse-Goku. "People of GAF, lend me your hatred!" So far GAF hasn't learned any lessons about this, it's literally the Streisand Effect in action. Instead of letting him fade into obscurity, GAF constantly highlights what he had for breakfast or something and keeps him constantly at the center of attention which is precisely what he craves.

Fuck Luckey and fuck any company or individually willingly choosing to be associated with him at this point.

He's poisoned any interest I had in VR at this point, it's all tainted by his White Supremacist ass.

Why the hell would a Japan, South Korea, or Finland based company give a damn if Luckey supported a US president or promoted him through the use of shitty memes and “meme magic”? I mean, yeah- Luckey is a shitbag, but still, his politics and Nimble America are kinda our problem not Japan’s, South Korea’s*, or Finland’s.

*South Korea has an argument to be made.

So, are any of you going to act to inform these companies of Luckey's white-supremacist activities or are we just going to be passive about it?

They very well may not be in the know given how I doubt it caught on in the news outside of the English speaking world, and I'd bet Facebook and Zuckerberg did their best to try and suppress/Damage Control the spread of it.

Of course though I wouldn't entirely doubt these companies knowing and just not giving a fuck because Alt-Right Politics have been the norm in Japan and Korea for about a century now.

Nah, he deserves to be ostracised. Business decisions don't transcend morality.

Yes, they do. As much as the public allows businesses to do evil things, they will do them. It has been proven over and over again that a profit motive can lead people to do bad things.

Businesses fire people over morals all the time because they dont want thier brand associated with whatever said person did.

Okay. Googled him and still see no reasonable reason to hate this guy. Just because someone doesn't fit your political leaning doesn't automatically make him a bad guy. If he's truly a pioneer in VR then these companies are lucky to have him.
Why is it always a junior

And you're right. He absolutely has not done anything illegal. He's living his life. Some people disagree with how he's doing it and disagree with his passions, but put yourself in his position. If you were set and you didn't align with the majority of the people in your field politically, but at the same time you have I-don't-give-a-fuck-money, of course you're going to speak your mind. Doesn't mean you're wrong, just means maybe the majority of society disagrees with you, and so what. Live your life and speak your mind. Don't let anyone scare you from doing so.
Supporting white supremacist groups = speaking your mind

Kay

Feels like a lot of the people in this thread need to be reminded that "Not illegal" is not a defense for shitty behavior.

i dont think palmer luckey threads should be allowed anymore

it just derails into political bullshit

Everything is political, whether you intend it to be or not. You can be an adult and accept that or you can try to protect the status quo by whining about politics invading.

Palmer Luckey's politics will come up because Palmer Luckey is the topic.

That's great. If I have one complaint about the VR games that are available now, it's that they're not nearly racist enough.

I mean, i'm not exactly a Palmer fan, but what games or experiences that Oculus published were racist or even had racist tones?

People throw thinking out the window on this topic. Palmer is a dirtbag but none of his shitty political views ever seemed to seep into Oculus's products. He's not going to suddenly convince a Japanese developer that they should throw up a swastika in their game. Like him or not, he's one of the most knowledgeable people in an incredibly new field. That's going to have value.

HOLY FUCKING SHIT

The degree of defense force, have waving, whataboutisms on display here is truly unbelievable. This is approaching mass ignorance or AstroTurf levels of shit stain acceptance.

Look at this shit:

I understand the hate, but people have got to understand that in a market so young he's one of the biggest experts when it comes to the market.

Don't go hating on him some more just because some companies are working with him. It's just business.

It goes without saying, but don't go hating on the companies either...

Please don't misconstrue what I'm saying. Hate the man if you want, all the power to you, I'm just saying that him working with companies like this is a normal turn of events and nothing to get worked up over.

Okay. Googled him and still see no reasonable reason to hate this guy. Just because someone doesn't fit your political leaning doesn't automatically make him a bad guy. If he's truly a pioneer in VR then these companies are lucky to have him.

Seems strange that he is working closely with Asian companies if he is a white supremacist. Maybe he isn't?

Sounds like the dude has a great life lol. Meh, don't agree with him less than half of the time, but don't hate either. Intelligent prodigy, has his shit going for him.

I get the feeling that some members find it impossible to see outside of the US whenever PL is mentioned.

His meme funding and support of Trump has no relevance to organisations and businesses in the wider world.

You can disagree with his political stance, but as far as I'm aware he has done nothing illegal.

You twats are normalizing, legitimizing, or even celebrating the cunt who weaponized anonymous hate to push a political campaign. He's allied with a legitimately racist for a significant other.

Furthermore, this little entitled fucker's qualifications in the tech field aren't even concrete; his career is shadowed by accusations of IP theft.

yes but we've done this same song and dance. Thread about Palmer Luckey becomes about people complaining that he supported Trump. Nothing is actually discussed, just how he's a bad guy because he supported someone I didn't. It's just so boring. The actual topic that he is consulting VR companies that aren't his is pretty big.

He supported a white supremacist. There's a bit more obvious of a fucking line than just "difference of opinion." And yes, his business dealings will always exist within the shadow of that fact.

People are thinking just fine.

People who bought Oculus Rifts threw them out upon learning that Luckey was using the money to fund Nimble America, a white supremacist alt-right hate site. And it was also the reason he was fired from Facebook.

I'd appreciate if you wouldn't get all hyperbolical about what I'm saying. I am NOT defending the man's politics, I am just saying that getting all hot and bothered that someone well-known and qualified to consult with startups about the VR market doing just that is not surprising, and attacking him while he's just helping the industry grow - something that even Sony is worried about, with PSVR leading the market with such a wide gap - is not productive.

I am not saying he is a good person.
I am not saying that he is not a racist.
I am not saying that him being a racist is *ok*.
I AM saying that there are much more important things to get angry about, and getting angry at him or the companies that he's consulting helps NO ONE.

Also, I know you didn't say this, but hearing folks accuse others of not having a conscience because they're not freaking out about this is NOT OK.

By all means, hate the man's guts. Just don't let that cloud your judgment for what is, frankly, a non-issue.
