Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage
The messaging is pretty easy for Dems though, and doesn't require any amount of wonking or arm twisting. Trump promised to make healthcare cheaper and better for everyone, made a few decisions, now its 30 percent more expensive.

Trump did something, now healthcare is more expensive.

Trump did something, now healthcare is more expensive.

Rinse and repeat for the next year.

Right. Focus some more on how "You're living paycheck-to-paycheck because republicans only care about the rich" and you've got a prime atmosphere for a depressed GOP turnout.

“President Trump why haven’t you said anything about the soldiers killed in Niger?”

“Well I’ve written them letters and will be calling their parents”

He said it again!

trump is definitely interested in big pharma money. he said specifically he isnty interested in it, he doesnt need it.

It's been long known they currently have the most money and influence in Washington, having taken over from oil/gas in the past. If pharma wants it done, or not, it will likely happen.

For him to say he's not interested, in might mean not interested in disrupting their models, while getting their contributions.

when people say things like "Russia is the world's supervillain" I'd like to remind them that the United States is currently in a war with Yemen that has killed over ten thousand civilians and that this all has happened under the "good president".
Of course you immediately pivot to whataboutism.

And yes, when the other side is ISIS/Al-Qaeda backed, we are going to back the opposing force.

In a jaw-dropping lie, Trump falsely said Obama didn't call the families of dead soldiers.

BREAKING: Trump says previous presidents didn’t bother calling the families of fallen U.S. soldiers

------------------------------------------

Trump just won Olbermann's "Worst Person in the World" honor for the 793rd straight day.

So how long before we learn the meeting was either a shouting match or McConnell giving up what little dignity he has left?

It could go either way.

My vote's the latter. Mitch seems to be totally deflated these days, specifically after McCain torpedoed him. I was waiting for some shady nonsense after that, but he's just done nothing. He barely spoke during the Graham-Cassidy thing.

Trump does anything and everything better than the people who came before him.

Oh look, he's shitting on Puerto Rico some more!

Oh and the military shouldn't be handing out food and water in a natural disaster zone. Makes sense.

He’s such a horrible pathological fucking liar. Doesn’t matter what the context or situation is, he’ll just say whatever he thinks will help him look better.

“Hey, you haven’t called these families of dead soldiers”
“WELL OBAMA DIDN’T EITHER”

It’s only willful ignorance that anyone still believes him about anything.

Pre-emptive “fuck you” for anyone who wants to claim that at least we know where Trump stands.

It's not whataboutism, it's that absurd rhetoric like "global supervillain" is incredibly reductive, especially coming from a country that murders foreign civilians and is in constant war.

Also lmao at Al Qaeda/ISIS backed, we're murdering Yemenis in order to promote Saudi hegemony, Al Qaeda is our ally in Yemen because they're Sunni and the Houthis are Shiite.

I could almost believe generals telling Trump that Obama didn't call the families of fallen soldiers, just as motivation to get him to call the families at all.

It's a 3-pronged, I misunderstood it in my initial readings. But we're still generally going to back the existing government and maintain stability there. This isn't shocking nor surprising in a case where destabilizing the country via a revolution would result in AlQ/ISIS gaining an even stronger foothold.

We tried that in Iraq. It didn't go well!
It's because there were stairs. Trump is terrified of stairs.
Can we trade Trump for Charles Xavier? He hates stairs too!

The war in Yemen is bad.

Russia is a dictatorship that has concentration camps for gay people, legal domestic violence, and is helping do genocide in Syria.

IDK, man...

Russia’s literally mounting a global campaign to advance white nationalism and fascism in democratic governments across the world.

What exactly would qualify as a “global supervillain” to you?

“Going out tonight.” OMG are you kidding me.

Regarding tax reform, remember that in the recent house polls done, all of those districts had approval of the tax bill at around 30 approval 48 disapproval. And those districts tended to be slightly republican leaning too. That's terrible terrible approval for a tax cut. Everyone is supposed to love tax cuts.

Trump saying the system is rigged over and over made gop leaning independents / gop voters realize that tax cuts have to go to the middle class to be good for them.

To be specific, the reason whataboutism is a fallacy is that a statement is frequently divorced from the person or thing stating it. The statement that Russia (as a state, not necessarily every person there) is evil (that is, is guilty of the things you listed here) does not become more or less valid because the West says it. To argue otherwise is actually textbook whataboutism.

Both Strickland and Crist were endlessly hammered about how many jobs their states lost in the recession when they were governor.

Bredesen was governor from 2003 to 2010. Rightly or wrongly, he'd own all of that.

Also, uh, given Bayh and Feingold's successes in 2016, I hesitate to giving into that same impulse!

Right. Tankies who think Russia is benevolent are misguided and dangerous, but Russia is a substantially less dangerous imperialist threat than the goold ol' USA. Refusing to acknowledge American aggression is tacitly pro-imperialist, and the behavior of our current administration has made the human toll of our primacy sickeningly clear.

Who has Putin threatened to nuke? How many countries is he bombing right now? Movement toward an end to our own international abuses needs to be part of any progressive platform, and refusing to deescalate because it gives Russia an opportunity is a fundamentally reactionary and imperialist stance.

Of course you immediately pivot to whataboutism.

And yes, when the other side is ISIS/Al-Qaeda backed, we are going to back the opposing force.

Please, please, please read about these conflicts before posting. The US and Al-Qaeda are tacitly allied in most of the Middle East, because Al-Qaeda works closely with out Saudi Allies and because we support their brutal sectarianism as long as it weakens Iran's influence. Similarly in Syria, we have directly provided aid to Al-Qaeda affiliates because our government is more willing to tolerate a brutal theocracy than a secular government that's friendly with Iran and Russia.

I would agree w/ this. You can almost certainly find someone much fresher and with less baggage to play the Moderate Darling (center-left version) card in TN. Play into the "most popular person on the team is the backup QB" thing.

I'm pretty sure Ukraine would beg to differ on this!

I get what you’re saying but also it’s Tennessee.

Additionally all your examples lost in what turned out to be godawful years for Democrats.

Again, not saying your point is invalid, but there’s upside to a Bredesen candidacy as well.

I don’t see a timeline where Bredesen loses but someone else could have won.

Fox News' Juan Williams: Trump is becoming a failed president

http://thehill.com/opinion/white-house/355569-juan-williams-trump-is-becoming-a-failed-president

So it's no wonder Trump now walks alone. He remains a celebrity figure for his hardcore base. But 10 months into his presidency, Republicans are starting to drift away as he fails to deliver on nearly every major campaign promise he made.

That's not my opinion. That's a demonstrable fact.

The only way not to see Trump as a failure is to close your eyes to what all of us can see.

America's naked aggression and clumsy interventions and equally clumsy isolationisms, are all very bad. But at least they're happening in the open. the insidious villainy of Russia is amplified and obscured by US politicians who benefit from it and by a small core of voters too stupid and racist to detect that they're being manipulated.

But none of that stops Russia from being not only villainous, but absolutely destructive to its own people and economies.

America being bad does not mean Russia isn't. And Russia is bombing civilians and rebels in Syria, to answer your initial question. To maintain a murderous regime that happens to be convenient to Putin's actual imperial desires.
