Just played UMvC3 online for the first time. Got completely THRASHED but the speed and response was very nice.
Did you get a video of said thrashing? jk ... Did you use to the D-pad or the left stick? Is it easier to pull off diagonals and quarter circles with the new D-pad?

You can pull combos by tapping the screen and fire a special attack using one button. ^^ Great for fighting noobs such as myself.

I use the D-Pad, no issues at all with quarter and half circles, other fighting game inputs, etc.

Voice chat is tied to Party so I didn't use it (fought a random guy), when I used it with my friend a couple of days ago, Vita-to-Vita, it sounded just like it does when I use it on my PS3.

As for super combos by simply tapping the screen, you can of course set it so you don't allow this :D I'm sure most players will keep this off once competition heats up.

But which hyper combo does it launch?

It's starring to sound like the simple mode inputs are always linked to the touch screen, so you can access both modes at the same time.

How is online chat? Does it work perfectly, or there is some static noise or something?

Any 3DS + Vita owners here? Since there is no garbage thread yet I'll ask this here.

I have figured I can really afford to have one, a Vita or a 3DS, and if I was to get Vita I better turn in my 3DS in before Christmas so that I get the best possible trade-in value for it.

On my 3DS I will have completed Pilotwings, Mario 3D Land, Mario Kart 7 and Zelda OOT, and there isn't really much in the 2012 roster that interests me - Layton mainly.

Does the Vita feel like a real console is my main question? Because one of my main frustrations with the PSP was how dumbed down the games felt.

32 pages of vita talk, the browser gets mentioned and jeff_rigby is on the case lol.
What's up with your fasination and knowledge on the psp/vita's webkits ?
The PS3 browser thread has many interested readers who contribute information. Most of the info I posted was found by others. It's not just me!

There is more there than just the browser:

1) PS Vita OS is FreeBSD, the same as the PS3
2) It's got a partially implemented Netfront Browser NX that should use Webkit2, Cairo, GTK toolkit and Gstreamer. This is the same as the PS3 GTKwebkit disclosure but the front end of the browser is by Access.

Access uses Gnome FOSS software and in 2007 was indicating they were going to support Cairo, GTK & QT toolkits and Gstreamer which they did in several products for handheld platforms. Late 2007 Sony sent a developer PS3 to Collabora, the developers of Gstreamer, after Alp Toker (Collabora) the father of the GTKwebkit WebGL Gstreamer with Cairo bindings initiative published his paper.

3) The Vita OS is said to be down to 26 megs so PS3 OS is some value higher, maybe 30-40 megs.
4) Flash support is coming
5) Handwriting recognition is apparently in the Vita

Looking at the NX browser give us an idea of the Maximum features (Sony will not support all functionality).

Interesting question. I don't think the launch games will really address that, but from what I've heard, in the next couple of years, Vita will be getting console games that are developed in parallel with 360 and PS3 titles. It won't be an instant transition, but starting from 2012, you should see it become more commonplace.

I've always regretted trading in a gaming system (with the exception of Wii). Are you absolutely sure you don't want to just wait until you can afford to have both? I considered doing the same think you're going to do and then fell in love with the 3DS all over again over the past few weeks.

The 3DS has just started hitting its stride. Trading it at this point would be a mistake, imo. I know you're saying you're not interested in any of 2012 schedule, but ask yourself: what are the chances of changing your mind (after a new game announcement, localization, or more attractive previews of an announced game)? If you think it's close to zero, then go ahead.

You can always come back when the revised model is released in April :teehee

As for the Vita, it looks mighty impressive, but it's bound to hit the low points of a launch year at some point.

My advice is to sell a kidney, or a kid if you have one, and keep both.

Ugh, Ended up getting a psp vita 3G to my place in America from a friend(paid them far in advance, but thanks to the Japanese post not taking LI-on batteries it ended up costing me 554 dollars

30,000 yen 3g system
2,200 yen 4 gig memory card
11,000 yen by fedex

43200 Japanese yen = 554.5584 US dollars

This is money that I could afford at the time, but now can not. I:ve never sold anything on e-bay, any ideas on places besides Ebay that I could sell my new, in America, vita and manage to not lose too much money?

Yeah having games released on more platforms than ever before is going to be all the rage over the next 5 years is my prediction.

I am home with my 8GB memory card, Minna no Golf 6 and PS Vita in hand, now if I can just catch some time to play it tonight...

I wish Lumines was out already!! Would be easier to play Lumines on the train than anything else. I hate that the game prices are all over the place, it reminds me of PSP (er, which makes sense) but I don't see why 2D fighting game or 2D RPG has to be more expensive than Uncharted. Here's hoping PSN prices and PS Vita prices come to a pressured collision once Japanese gamers wise up about the amount of awesome cheap games on smartphones.

What sort of information is logged in "Activities" under the live area for UMvC3? Does it show who won the match or does it go further like "picking up a shield" and show who won each bout?

Wow...I can only say you should try to find a rich kid in your town and have their daddy buy them a special toy for Christmas, you probably won't get $550 on eBay

Dumb question, but other forums are spreading that Sony had disable trophies in used VITA games (retail disc versions) so you can get them only if you are the first owner of the card. Is that true????

recieved my preorder bonus thing

12-PS-Vita-headphones.jpg

just my 2 cents about the bonus package if anyone cares:

the headphones are gorgeous.. the line in jack and the seperator have the same blue metalish look and the sound quality is .. let's say ok if you're mainly a grado user
the wires create a noise when you move... so you always try to sit still. kinda dumb

the rest of the bonus package contained a 5 € voucher for some DL games.. which is neat, a option to get "frobisher says" and some avatar goodies which I dont care about

ololo glad that I bought the wi-fi version, the 3G preorder pack contained a psvita wallet.

Ones that come with a game and are in America seem to be going for up to 650-750$ on Ebay. I:ve never used ebay for selling though, so not quite the best option for me.

Due to Japan post restrictions anyone selling from Japan is going to have have that 11,000 yen extra shipping fee added on.

Nope, you can reset the card/delete its saves and then it will be fully yours, trophies and all.

Looks like UMvC3 only logged when I played for the first time, and when I unlock trophies. Lame, updates about winning or losing streaks would be awesome. (Technically I haven't had one yet, but you would think it would start by telling people I am playing online)

Also, to FINALFANTASYDOG, how about Amazon Marketplace?

That's "Dr." dofry to you.
Today I finally got the hang of the Uncharted motion aiming system. I really recommend to play around with it from the start. Excellent for fine tuning your aim. Most excellent.

Do you have to wait for the game to auto-log an activity or can you post something yourself, for others to comment on, as well?

You can't post any comments; games log what they are designed to log and push that info to your friend's (and your own) live area for that game.

Are there any Vita cases that have been announced that look as good and as sturdy as the PlayGear Pocket for the original PSP? Once I got that I never had to worry about my PSP getting damaged.

Lame. I initally thought I can publish comments myself for my friends to see, instead of commenting on and liking auto-logged entries.

Sigh, just watch every pub and dev ignore it then.

Due to the backtouch, could such a thing be even possible?

I usually took my PSP out of the case to actually play games, and I'd expect to do the same with the Vita. I mainly want a case to protect the Vita when I'm not using it and especially if I'm putting it in a bag to go somewhere.

i still use the sleeve thingy that came with the original psp (or was it 2000?) for my 2000. works quite well.

I love the neoprene sleeve I bought for my PSP 3000. The Vita bundle I pre-ordered is supposed to come with a case but I don't know much about what sort of case it comes with. I may end up picking up a Vita neoprene case down the road.

Still not sure about a screen protector. I haven't used one with my PSP and I've managed to keep it pristine. But I don't know if I could take that risk with the Vita.
