The problem, as you can see from this thread, is that you can't make everyone completely happy. So what we are tasked with doing is making most people mostly happy. There are no plans to kill vanilla Reach and no plans to put TU in everything. And even stuff like bleed through is still being played with.

Do you guys just assume that the average person who never reads forums doesn't care what they're playing?

To me, I would think those people are the ones you have to worry about over forum mouth breathers. Regardless of what anyone says on a message board, they're going to be there day 1 for Halo 4. I would think the people who don't know what the hell they're playing from game to game would be the people that would get fed up and leave the series alone due to a poor experience.

Are you actually able to remove bleedthrough from the TU settings or does it come packaged with the other changes as it seems so far? Because my main beef with TU settings is the broken bleedthrough. I could care less about the AA changes because Evade is better than both of them, and sword block removal was pointless with the hammer block being retained.

The current playlist layout suggests otherwise. If the Slayer voting schemes goes in favor of the TU, there will only be one "normal" non-specialty Vanilla Reach playlist left. I wouldn't consider Team SWAT, Team Snipers, and Living Dead "vanilla" playlists and none of them would really be affected by the TU. 90% TU / 10 % vanilla is stretching the defintion of "not in everything".

As others have said, the game was bad enough to warrant a TU. However at this stage of the game there is no way 343i is going to salvage reach into an experience that people will enjoy, (yes I realize there are thousands who love living dead and griffbal in Reach) so might as well just stop changing the game any further and develop Halo 4 as their true vision/version of Halo they want.

That might not be the plan but it is effectively what is (potentially) happening. Fringe lists like Invasion, SWAT, Grifball, and Snipers are of little consolation when I cannot play the game with the settings I have enjoyed for over a year now. If Team Slayer gets converted then my only remaining option for standard MM will be Squad DLC which is a fine list (good update for that BTW) but there are two issues:

1. It is limited to DLC only maps making on disc stuff effectively TU exclusive.

and

2. I fear that eventually it will be either cut or updated to use TU.

TU Reach is still a good game but I still prefer Vanilla settings.

I agree with the course of action you propose. If the community is against some of these changes introduced to the series with Reach then by all means reconsider including them in Halo 4. But don't break Reach in the process. All that serves to do is fall short of placating people who weren't keen on the game to begin with and annoy those who liked the game as it was.

I read all of those meltdowns to the beginning of the High Charity Suite.

It was glorious.

EDIT: Oh, and I favor the TU to be everywhere (for whenever I do go back to play it sometime). I still wash off the stink of vanilla reach daily, even though I haven't played it for months :/

Interested in the answer to this.

I can't tell when people are being serious or not in this thread. When will I be granted this ability? Will it hurt?

It will hurt. I should tell you: there's a chance you won't survive the bone-grafting process. I'm going to flip this coin...

They just played the Star Wars Episode 1 3D trailer, but with the awesome lines from Darth maul that he never says in the real movie, 'At last we will reveal ourselves to the Jedi. At last we will have our revenge.'

Was Darth Maul supposed to talk in some unseen original cut?

Yeah, the cut that Frank Oz and Steven Spielberg had complete creative control over...unfortunately that cut only exists in a parallel universe where my childhood wasn't burned to ash by George Lucas' malaise.

I could have sworn he had some lines earlier in the film, please don't make me curious enough to view Episode 1 again.

Seriously though shits changing all the time :(

EDIT: Wait he actually did talk? I really do not remember that at all.

I distinctly recall him saying those lines while on Coruscant with Palpatine, walking nonchalantly.

Edit: Pringles confirm.

Oh, Fronk, that's in the movie.

Looks like I'm not missing much substantive discussion about any changes, heh.

Why we no have this? :>

Because you can change more than 5 gametype options from the lobby now? But Bungie didn't really use stuff like Weapons on Map anymore, since they just forged out different maps for different specialty gametypes. It was neat to have though back in the day.

I thought George Lucas died in 1989...

(At least, that's what I'll tell my future children.)

Alternate joke: Wow, prequel trilogy characters in three dimensions? That's two more than they had before!

I think they need a new audio guy for that Helljumpers stuff. Or is it just me? It was all over the place.

So choose the most important ones and display them. Bloom setting, bleedthrough setting, starting weapon, flag return type/time, score to win, movement speed, maybe even a list of armor abilities as icons on the side if there's room. Why would you need to list out more than 5-7 things if its biggest use is to inform people of what to expect when the game starts? You have people in here that participate in a damn Halo community regularly that aren't able to keep track of what the specifics of each gametype are, and the responsibility for making that information easily available without having to scroll through a bulletin or whatever is on the developers.

This page is like BOOOOOM

I will not. The way shields work in default Reach reads beautifully. I will never forget it.

I agree with you on the shield feedback and bleed through, but at this point...meh I guess. The playlists should all be TU or not, just too confusing otherwise. I might care more but I haven't played since November anyway. Careful though man, you don't want to burn bridges or get a temp ban.

Please please please please please reintroduce this in 4, but even better.

I think they did a lot of ADR for the dialogue. The scene between the father and son on the bridge was definitely dubbed. Getting good audio is hard when you are on a shoestring budget.

I'm impressed with the overall quality given the fact that it's made by fans.

We really could use an Arena refresh..
It is one of the least played playlists, and it is the only truly competitive one, besides MLG.

That is sad for us competitive players.

Why split the competitive communities? Just make competitive rules MLG based to begin with. Arena was highly unsuccessful.

If your arena rank wasn't stuck behind 20 menus and was visible when your name was selected (ala the military ranks in Halo 3), people would care and play arena. It's all about your e-peen.

Ranks are pretty huge for a game like Halo, the skill gap is there in each game. Halo 3 could have been done better with reaching a 50 but overall it was good. It's just annoying in Reach to completely dominate or run into a god squad with no balance in ranks. One of my pet peves of the game and it makes me not want to play it.

If 343i wants to win over people ranks is one of the best things to do, my casual friends haven't touched Reach since Black Ops hit because they where bored with no 'insensitive" to play. Yea credits are ok but it's like handing out medals to every team that competes. CoD did it better, this isn't something I would want to affiliate with the Halo series after Reach at all. This is 343i time to strike down the "CoD titan", people are bored with MW3 now and are itching for a good MP game.

ps: This isn't bashing 343i for not putting them into Reach btw, they were handed a bad hand and did what they could. I rather have them fully focus on Halo 4 at this point than worry about it.

To be successful, Arena ranks needed to be propagated across a wider variety of playlists - Slayer, Objective, Doubles, whatever makes sense. The winning team credit bonus is not enough of an incentive to get a team to care. This propagation has the added benefit of disallowing guest play in those core competitive playlists, leaving them with the more social gametypes that work well in a splitscreen environment. If you get a guest on your team in Objective, even against a team of four randoms (who have their own screen), the odds are stacked up incredibly high against you because you're practically playing a man down.

The ranking does need to be more visible, but the Arena playlist was never given the care it deserved. Its map count was boosted by a bunch of (mostly) poor Forge variants, and it still has the Jetpack loadout despite its status as a supposedly competitive environment. It also needed to be more heavily advertised if it was going to succeed as a standalone playlist. It honestly is a shame that they invested the time to make a really good ranking system, one that is theoretically much better than the 1-50 grind (removing the 'chew through awful players during 1-30' phase and having percentiles which is a far more informative number than an arbitrary 50), but didn't support it.

I found that arena matches were by far the most competitive and close games I played (once I was rated). However, because no-one cares about their rank in arena, the population in the playlist is terrible.

If the ranks were more prominent, more people would care and play arena, then the matches would be more competitive.

I agree. Arena needs a lot more love.

Ideally, it would be renamed and replace Team Slayer, Sprint/Hologram only and 85% bloom. Along with the ranks being more prominent, arena would get a lot more popular and games overall would be more fun.

Hell, if Objective was ranked, maybe more people would want to play it to get their (now prominent) rank higher.
