Kingdoms Of Amalur: Reckoning |OT| An Enemy-Pounding Funfest

Had to start a new character because my game got f***ed by some bug that stopped letting Reckoning Mode work. This time instead of a rogue, I went warrior (eventually I'll add mage points). Sneaking is fun, but just being able to rush forward and demolish everything is fun too. I'm level 7, playing on hard, and yeah it's easy on the outside, but I had a hell of a time with the
Niskaru boss, because I blew my reckoning on what I thought was the boss fight just prior to it.
. I haven't been buying or making healing potions, so I was scrambling on that fight because I was down to 2 left. I've got a lot of nice gear so far and am having a blast.

Same with me...just know that if you do all of them you will out level the content way too fast and later it will become even more easier than it is now. I love doing sidequests in games like these and so far the ones early on in this game have been great..sidequests that are completed lead to more sidequests etc.

To be honest, the game is just so fun to kick back and relax with that I don't even give a damn about it not being very hard. Sometimes just being a fun game with great gameplay and features is enough. I love challenge as much as the next Joe, but not everything has to be Demon's Souls, either. I love this game for what it is... which is simply fun. *Shrugs*

Question: Does the race you play affect the loot you get? Want to go full might with an Alnimari (the sea faring race), but am getting a lot of Finesse and Magic loot. Even in the tutorial section I didn't get a full set of plate armor. It wasn't an issue when I played the race that has backgrounds on war and religion (forgot name) in the demo.

I'll probably start over tomorrow or something, gotta go to church now. -_-

I do agree they need to be fixed a bit to make Hard (or this new Nightmare/Insane mode) harder and more fun. I disagree that the base game outside of those isn't difficult, however; there's moments where the game is a bit hard and those two serve to equalize it.

Basically, treat the two as separate entities. There's the game itself and then the mechanics the player has access to. The former is relatively fine though that may change I break into better and better equipment; the latter could use some tweaking. Potion cooldowns already exist so I'm not sure why the Healing/Mana potions aren't on that kind of cooldown as well.

And Reckoning is just too beastly. Any fight that triggers a boss HP bar should just get some strange lore reason of you being unable to twist the fabrics of fate or something. I basically just use Reckoning for bonus EXP on this first playthrough and my next ones will just forgo ever using it.

Outside of potions, seems to me how easy the game gets is directly related to how much sidequests you do. It's sort of jRPG-ish in that way... if you sit around "grinding" so-to-speak, you'll get to a point where you can pretty much laugh at most normal mobs. Sidequests are sidequests and I bet if you stuck to the main quest, you'd have a fairly middle of the road difficulty level. But sidequests are meant to be extra credit as they are in the jRPG sense, at least that's what it seems like to me. They want you to have the ability to become a demiGod since some people like that sort of thing.

I died once so far on those damn double threshes early in the game (the one you get the purple faeblade from)... those fucking assholes scared the shit out of me with their like non-stop ground root attack thing. Definitely was not prepared for it since it was so much stronger than I was at that point in the game...

Which imo is exactly why the game needs a Very Hard mode, if at all doable by the devs. People who are completionists but still prefer games to be an actual challenge are currently having a really hard time enjoying this game. I'm one of those people and it's pretty much the only thing keeping me from dropping my money on it currently.

Like I said, I agree with that...even though it is 'fun', I still would not mind a little challenge as a reward for doing all these side quests as well. While others migh think the sidequest are dull or whatever, I think they are pretty damn good..they just take away form the main story line challenge wise because of how much XP you gain from doing the side quests and the high level loot you find as well when doing them. Just needs to be a bit more balanced.

And wow about the 360 version vs. demo. Even the AA is much improved in retail versus the demo on the 360...still no-where near the pc version in pure 1080p with no jaggie at all, but still pretty impressed with the 360 version.

Yep, that was my biggest fear after playing the PS3 and 360 demos. The PS3 version looked so much nicer, but the final is really quite lovely and so far I've had nary a stutter in framerate except for when it does a load.

Is there a list of guaranteed purple/set items you can always get? (Like the arena purple gear or the House of Ballads set)

I'm dying beyond death for a new hammer. Edit: And a shield why do i still have the tutorial shield equipped :<

Found some cool boots that belong to a set. Anyone know how to make my pics bigger on photobucket? Its 1920x1080 but photobucket made it smaller..

I upload to photobucket for that reason. No need to fill the thread with HUGE ASS PICTURES. Specially for loot drops :p

Don't get me wrong, I agree with the people saying it's too easy. It's obviously not balanced appropriately for completionists. I'm just saying, I can sort of see the other side of the difficulty argument in this case. If the game was balanced toward sidequests, there's a whole load of gamers who would be a little confused since plenty of gamers only play the main quest and they'd end up frustrated quickly. In that case, the only options are to have enemies scaling more aggressively around you and to have a potion cap (which should be there anyway). Alternatively you have to make sidequests mandatory, or at least far more quests need to be integrated into the main one, and that'd be a feat all its own

Edit: Also, this game molests Fable.

When you go to upload something, you can click "customize my upload options" at the bottom of the screen and tell Photobucket to only resize if you go above a fixed resolution (the highest you can set it to is 2048x1536 with a free account). I think the default setting will resize anything that's larger than a megabyte.

fake edit: but I should point out I'd rather not see giant screenshots in this thread either. :p

Keep in mind there are three difficulty selections. Easy, easier, and stupid easy. The people that just want to avoid frustration and look at the trees and butterflies have PLENTY of options. The rest of us got bamboozled.

That's true. My preference would have been that playing on hard pretty much demands you have to play through mad Sidequests to be viable.

Woo, finally getting my reckon on. I can totally understand the complaints people had so far, but I don't care. I'm loving it, warts and all.

I got a bit of a random question though...what's the point of books, besides reading them? They're eating up inventory room and if they don't serve any other purpose, I'm gonna have to unload them.

Ok, so apparently you have to have internet connection to play. I am at work and I cdo not have an internet connection here. It is very slow, so I boot up my laptop to play. It asks me to sign into Origin. Well, this copy is now fucking worthless. I don't mind them asking for it the first time I played but to ask everytime I try to play is BS!

I'm not liking alchemy at all, might have to respec. Should I stick with it or drop it? I find myself hardly ever using potions and the like and they are destroying my inventory space.

Grab something else if you don't like it. I mean you can go back and forth just for gold so go nuts.

Well..there is a side quest that has you finding 10 books and then returning them for a reward, so you might have some of these in your inventory. The sidequest is only attainable by completing another side quest, which then opens up 2 more one of them being for books.

Just went through a side quest where I had to kill ten Jottun in a cave. Managed to stealth kill 7 of them. I like how you can get right on the edge of an enemies field of view and then hurry up and hide. They will come investigate the area and then turn their back to you...Thats when they die.

Love some of the stealth kill animations.

I really think it's weird that quake is on Might. I'm certainly not complaining, since I'm doing Might/Sorcery, but it's CLEARLY called a spell in the description, yet it's a might ability? :p

You are guys are going to think I am fucking crazy or something, but here it goes...

Shortly after midnight, I unlocked the game on Steam, played for about 4 hours into the wee hours of the morning. Started on hard and noticed how easy it was, even in the early part of the game. The small cave with rats behind the waterfall, the easyness of opening locked chests where half the time I just leave the lockpick where it is at and they open etc...to the small pack of wolves that lead to the first proper cave which I cleared without using more than 2 potions...easy peasy...

As I mentioned earlier, decided to go get the 360 version as well since the kids like the game and my gaming PC rig is hooked up to the big screen. I figure, I can play in the room or the kids can play in the room on the 360. Fast forward.....

So I load up the 360 version, prompts for a patch and I begin my game on hard. Intro dungeon is no problem, get to the troll boss but the fight seems to take alot longer and I end up using way more potions that i did earlier on the PC version. So I clear the troll and get into the open world. I jump into the water, get the few items and head into the small cave with the rats. This time however, instead of just 2 rats, there are fucking 5 of them and it takes a bit of time to clear. Next thing I notice is a chest with the glynths, on the PC it had 3 icons to hit on and opened it no problem, now on the 360 there were 4 of them to click on and I failed...next thing is I try to open a chest and lose 3 picks because it seems to fail really fast.

As I play I think it is just a random thing, so off to meet with the dude that talks about my fate and I fight those guys with little effort. I decide to go the cave, I fight the wolves and enter the cave. As I progress through the cave I died 2 times, used 6 potions in total, even applied a health regen potion. I finally get out of the cave and think WTF is going on??? Even the damn chests I have to manuver the lockpick on every single one of them and usually fail at least once or twice. I am not joking that on the pc version I litterally open chests without moving the lockpick 50% of the time, even on some hard ones.

In the 360 version I am only 1 hour into the game, have died twice, used about 12 potions, used a regen potion, used 3 mana potions and almost died 2 additional times. This is only doing the tutorial, the small dungeon/cave and fighting the guys near the guy that sees your fate. I have not even progressed to the first town.

In the PC version, I have not died at all and am 8 hours into the game. Have only used like 6 health potions, never touched a regen potion at all.

Can someone explain this to me because I am fucking at a loss right now on what is going on. From the 1st hour of play time on the 360 version I am telling myself "this is fucking hard" to the point that I saved the game right before the area where I died twice...I usually do this with challenging games..if I die in a particular area more than once, I save so I dont have to re-do stuff..which is a sign of a challenging game. And yes, I verified I was on hard on the PC version and went through the same 1st hour doing almost the same thing and did not die once, not even close to dieing once.

I am at a loss right now...anyone care to explain?

FlyinJ

Douchebag. Yes, me.
On the PC playing with a 360 controller, I'm finding that trying to pull off my "fire mark" doesn't always shoot off when I hold the trigger in and then press the fire mark button. There seems to be a bit of a delay required between pulling the trigger and pressing the button. I don't notice this on any other spell, just fire mark.

Anyone else noticing this?

(Might happen in all SKUs, but I just notice it on PC)

It takes a lot of muscle to wrest a host of spiky rocks from the ground! It's the manliest of spells.

At least that's my take on it. Might would be boring without it.

BTW...Read the books you find. Some are really good. I just found one called the "Stonecandle Log" which was pretty good and explains the startup of making the mine that lead to hughes being there.

Just did a quest that cost me ~8.6k EXP (10% of my level) for ... permanent -5% Mana Cost.

At least ... I hope it's permanent...

If you want a really fun one go up to the girl who wants you to kill the antelopes and re-enact a play to summon a troll near the first village and pick pocket her. You don't have to take it, but you are free to read or look through her belongings (or anyones) so long as you don't take anything at no consequence.

She has a book of dirty limericks and its a really long song about a dude who tried to rape a bear.

You DO know about the ongoing quest to recover Brother( ...um...I think its Tril?)'s dirty novels dont you? Dude lent his perverted books of naughty filled naughtiness to a bunch of folks across the world and none returned them. You get a reward for every one you return to him. If you read them they are soooo full of innendo and "technique training" tips that its hilarious.

I sold shephards armor. Didn't wanna go might anyways, but its more fun to earn your way through this game. Its why so many are switching off Might/Sorcery because its easy mode.
