Now Sprint being there as it is in Reach, destroying speed, maneuverability and freedom again, would crush me completely.

Hmm, I didn't really think Sprint did that so much as neutering the other player traits. I think I know what you mean, with the inclusion of Sprint leading to base traits be nipped in compensation. But I don't think speed/mobility and Sprint have to be mutually exclusive.

I just wanna go fast all the time, in any direction while maybe looking at another and being able to shoot my damn gun at any moment while doing it. Anything else and Halo sacrilege is being committed.

Pretty sad (and confused by the retcon).

But I'm open to something new and awesome as long as it has visual and audio feedback that fulfills me like the CE pistol and the H2/3 BR did. The DMR was never quite there for me, no even with the locked reticule in zerobloom.

Now Sprint being there as it is in Reach, destroying speed, maneuverability and freedom again, would crush me completely.

I don't give a shit about the retcon, gameplay is king, if they have a better/different weapon they want to have in the game, I'm all for it, in fact as long as it's damn good, I'd prefer it.

Couldn't agree more about movement though. Player needs to be able to move, and please no one say anything about wishing for Halo 3 movement speeds, because they were terrible. Move like its Halo 2 or bust.

This is what I agree with, this is how Halo should play. It's so simple, move in all directions at one speed that isn't butt slow and be able to shoot at any time with accuracy. Sprint puts you in a restrictive tunnel of movement, sure you can go fast in one direction, but it affects where you are moving and where you can look while your movement is sluggish in any direction but forward. Halo doesn't need that shit.

Agreed. In fact (like Domino Theory often suggests) the multiplayer sandbox should be able to include anything it wants without caring about finding a place or explanation for it in singleplayer, just have stuff be MP only. And it just seems convenient for me to pull out the "RETCON!!!" card this time because I do want the BR. :)

I don't mind sprint, but I think it is the reason that shield recharge times are so long. With all of the sprinting away from fights, the window to get the kill increased.

If getting rid of sprint means shields recharge quickly again, I am all for it!

Don't lather the floors up in Crisco. I don't care how fast you make them go, but leave that floaty, spastic gunplay to Quake.

Are there any new design wishes people would like? Jockeying over who can say "make it like the old Halos!" the most is almost a spectator sport in this thread.

This this this!

You are a super soldier!

Also if they manage to think of something more awesome than the BR, that is fine, but the BR is pretty damn amazing, especially the Halo 2 version (even the Halo 3 version isn't terrible if you have decent lag in a game).

I really enjoy burst weapons, and they also sound/look awesome. If you want to make it more like a single shot, just have all the bullets land really close together and at almost the exact same time, no more sweeping.

Quake doesn't really have inertia issues, you really had to be good with rocket prediction to figure out where someone that was decent at strafing was going to be. I played A LOT of Rocket Arena, I know it pretty well. It is also extremely fast, and I don't want halo to be THAT fast; more like Halo 2 speeds please.

So, ME3 Co-Op is amazing still put about 6-7 hours into it again today and it looks like ill have something to play till Halo 4 comes out.

It also got me thinking.

Firefight 3.0

Objective waves (CTF, VIP(s), Assault, Territories, Infection?)
Multiple Player Models (Spartan II, Spartan III, ODST, Marine
Spartan IV?
)
Command Stations (call in vehicles drops, weapon/ammo drops and air strikes all use Cr)
Fortification system (Switch into a monitor in between waves place destructible objects like pallets or destructible walls/barricades that use up Cr)
Expanded Arsenal(This has been discussed before ((like everything at this point)) but there is no need for campaign or firefight to be have limited Arsenals because of "balance" thast fine in multiplayer but for firefight and campaign you can throw in every weapon from the Halo Universe and then some)

I realise its a pipe dream but it would ensure that Halo 4 was my go to game of the forever

Just making sure, thought you were talking about the Halo series' jump height (everyone calls it "floaty").

Reach hit a good medium when it came to jumps. H3's moonjumps were too much.

I know a lot of people dislike the inertia, as well as the aim acceleration. I don't pay much attention to the latter, but the inertia always felt right to me.

Wishlist for Firefight in Halo 4:
-Don't make any DLC Firefight maps.

That's my wishlist.

Or at least sell them in a separate pack. Make FF popular by adding objectives/some linearity. I appreciate Staten's customization, but it only really tweaks the same boring formula. For me anyways.

I was suggesting Halo should move like Halo CE or Halo 2 did. Quake speeds are too fast for console FPS, but Halo CE and Halo 2 had good speed and quick lateral movement.

The inertia in Reach is ass, it ruins strafing and slows down the game. I don't like it, and hope it doesn't return in Halo 4.

Well, Nexuiz will prove that idea of quickness not being appropriate for console shooters wrong. Maybe.

Not that I'd want Halo to be my proxy for fun twitch FPS games anyway.

The way I see it is that any Firefight map made is another MP one being reduced. Even if you give them separate packs their resources are limited so I see it as substituting an MP map pack.

I mean, in a perfect world, sure, have equal amounts of added content for both sides without them impacting one another, but I'm just looking out for my interests there.

Matchmaking Firefight sucks anyhow.

Well the first thing that needs to happen in Halo 4 DLC is the concept of 3 maps in a pack needs to disappear from the world.

If map packs were 5 maps per pack, they could be 4 competitive MP maps and 1 Firefight map. Seems fair to me.

5 competitive maps for 10 to 15 dollars. Keep firefight maps separate so people that want MP maps don;t have to pay for things they will never use.

Anniversary route(5 mp 1 FF), or make MP maps FF compatible or something.

Anniversary was 6 mp maps and 1 firefight.

I personally wouldn't mind too much if they skipped Firefight for now and focused all studio efforts on Campaign and Vs, and then released Firefight down the line as DLC.

Fuck it's been quoted already, too late to delete. Shit, sorry Ghal I didn't mean it. :(

But I do love FF, if they have the time and manpower to juggle it with all the other stuff without compromises, and make it more on the survival side like in ODST, bring it.

If only the DVD was the only constraint on creating content, rather than the actual man-hours required.

I mean, I would love 25 maps off the bat, but something would need to be cut in order to have enough time to create said maps.

Remove all the customization and go back to ODST style firefight. It was way more fun. Or just scrap FF and focus on MP. That's fine too.

Okay, I'm intrigued. How many of you would take a Halo 4 game that was nothing but multiplayer (no Forge, Saved Films, Campaign, Firefight, splitscreen)? That means every iota of 343i's attention and resources went into competitive multiplayer.

Push the game back, put more man hours into it. Reach is only a year and a bit old at this point, I mean its not ideal but if they promised us that they would Deliver a Massive Experience id be willing to wait longer. Obviously at this point is not going to happen and im eager for Halo 4 but when Halo 5 Gets announced if they said something like "it wont be out soon but its going to be massive and on the Xbox 720" id be all for it.

Providing Halo 4 offers an experience im happy playing.

Id be willing to buy a Standalone Halo Multiplayer that gets updated often and well with new maps and content providing Halo's Campaign still got regular released.

However Forge and Theater would have to be included as i have little use for either out side of multiplayer.

Producing a game is a money-making venture. What benefits will adding another 6 months to a year worth of costs give?

They need to make a high quality game that is packed with content so fans don't feel ripped off and will continue to buy future Halo games. If they made a super Halo, I doubt sales will improve, they will risk pissing off fans who want to play Halo 4 in November, like they were promised and the profit margins will decrease drastically.

Lose-Lose for MS

Then it could possibly be like my favorite game of all time; Shadowrun. It wouldn't sell, it wouldn't review well, and it would never be tried again.

And thats the problem, Im well aware of the downfalls but the Halo Fan in me wants that super experience, So much content that i cant get bored or tired with it. Halo Reach was PACKED with features dont get me wrong.

Campaign
Firefight
Multiplayer
Forge
Theater
Armoury

it was the most feature filled game id played at the time and arguably still is but i want more, its not realistic its not even unrealistic its down right absurd but i still hope it will happen.

Wouldn't care if they scrapped firefight.

But scrapping Forge, Saved Films, Campaign, and Splitscreen? Hell no.

I also head a suggestion to drop splitscreen support if it means more FPS.

Hell no to that also. Halo and Split Screen go hand in hand. I couldn't imagine a Halo game where I couldn't play splitscreen.

Man, I hope Halo 4 is just one of those Renaissance games that's not just great, but a future classic. It's hard to put what I'm feeling into words, I just relish the idea of a revival that brings back lost fans.
Plus, I need an actual challenge in FFA

I mean, the press scores Halo high out of obligation, but I hope it blows the Halo community away by really earning that 9.5 by actually being good beyond just production value, which I find most AAA reviews are based on nowadays.

FF DLC was great but after an effort of one new map and one remake map I'd rather they not bother for Halo 4 if it's going to be that low of an output again. If they do it again, it needs to be a dedicated Firefight pack so we don't have Defiant Part 2 where (seemingly) all the Defiant owners just went into Firefight Arcade anyway.

re: sprint. I can live with or without it. The problem is it's one of "those things" that people want in every FPS (like ironsights) regardless of the balance, so even if they made you run at Reach's sprint speed people would still bitch about not being able to sprint. If you were able to run at Halo 2's speed with an assumed sprint bonus on top of it, people would still want that placebo of the sprint animation. It's like a no-win situation. Also, it still freaks me out when you jump while sprinting and your first person view goes all crazy trying to figure out what speed it should be animating at.

There was a post by a Bungie contractor on one of the community sites (i think 2old2play) where he wanted why they didn't just do multiplayer only Halos like a Halo 2K4, Halo 2K5 etc. Then he got numbers back that showed that only 25% of sales of every new Halo game resulted in a unique gamertag appearing on Xbox Live. A multiplayer-only Halo would be a suicide release. Shadowrun is pretty much what happens when you release a multiplayer-only game. Bungie and 343 need campaign to survive as a business (well, 343 needs it to survive as an MS business unit anyway)

Firefight/Invasion has to be back burner stuff, it seems like fillers if anything. Focus heavily on the campaign and Halo 4 multilayer (not this forge world crap).

I wouldn't want a new Halo to be MP only, but I would accept that from an XBLA port of CE/2. I do think with all the features incorporated into previous games they might have trouble maintaining all the features and ensuring top quality along the board though. I wouldn't mind if they made cuts and kept it to the essentials of Campaign and MP and made them shine as brightly as they could. Though I would still like saved films and Forge, but trimmed down to only a map tweaker instead of a "map creator".

Hopefully, and they may be considering this already, it'll become like Gears where all maps are for all modes. That has implications though if they're going to avoid duplicating data on the DVD.

The obstacle is Megalo isnt it? I was under the assumption Megalo operates in a separate environment to campaign (in which firefight operates) and thus the maps are either one or the other and not both.

Rebuild both campaign and megalo to one integrated system? Problem solved (not a small task)

Yup, no argument there.

I remember my first comment after playing the beta that first day, I said Reach didn't feel like a Halo game. This week I played Halo for the first time in months, first CEA and then Reach. And the contrast was enormous, and reminded me of that first time playing the beta. It doesn't feel or play anything like it should.

Anybody else worried that there is this general fear of the BR returning? Like it's Voldemort or something.

It just seems like it's taboo after all the bad players on Bnet created this myth about it being "too easy" to use.
