Does anyone else have a problem selecting 1920x1080 on the options menu? The only way I was able to set it was with the command line.

Defaulted to that for me, so no problems.

The game does lock up after a while, though. Could be my old nVidia beta drivers. Will try to update them tonight.

I love the max payne 2 locked door sounds, and the random TV series episodes. Loving this game.

Haha I'm such a pussy. I can't play this for more than 30 minutes without taking a break. I get a little wound up playing this type of game.

I'll wait until this is in the bargain bin. AW is a console based game, after all.
Its already "in the bargain bin" at GMG and what the hell does its original platform have to do with its quality? Quit embarrassing yourself and PC gamers in general.

Its a PC game now, where it came from is irrelevant, judge it on its own merits as a PC game. If you don't like linear, story led third person action games/ shooters then fine, don't buy it but what that has to do with it coming out on the 360, I don't know.

Yeah I don't feel constrained in this game even though it is linear by nature. You can still explore the areas and they seem pretty big and open.

I'm not embarrassing anyone, including myself. In my experience, console based games, when ported to PC, tend to have that console type gameplay style and that certain feel to how they're controlled that I dislike very much. I know I'm being very prejudiced but, when you have been disappointed enough times, you tend to become really wary of these things.

Game runs remarkably well on a 4870. Maxed out (except for the AA and filtering options), 1080p, I'm getting around 30fps, with drops to 25 with flares and such.

Ooh ok, so you're just an idiot. Got it.

To be fair, Alan Wake was always a PC game...until the $$$ came rolling in. I think it can be judged on it's merits. It's only a solid 8, but I think it is worth a go (especially in small doses)

What is it that gives Remedy's current linear third person shooter more of a "console game play style" than their previous linear third person shooter?

Oh, and for the record, what exactly is a "console gameplay style"?

I'm so happy for you PC guys that you can finally play Alan Wake. It's one of the best console games this generation. The definitive version arrived when I look at the screenshots. ;-)

A little off topic but this is exactly how i feel when playing RAGE.

Nine out of ten orphans can't tell the difference.
Guys I have a question, I faintly remember in the 360 version that you had analog control of the strength of your flashlight. In the pc, playing with 360 pad, version it feels like it's an either or setting. Was this feature removed due to the nature of the mouse?

Would there ever be a possibility to add/patch something to the game so when using a 360 pad you still have that variable strength on the flashlight?

Thanks.

The flashlight was always lit, you could only focus the beam with LT. There was no in between.
EDIT: If I'm not mistaken?

Hmm, I'm becoming unsure but I have a strong recollection of actually being able to vary the intensity. I understand why that isn't feasible with a mouse I just wish that for people with 360 pad it was still an option.

Its basically three states.

Not focus with loose aim.
Focus with better aim and a little zoom but without using battery.
Focus down with full strength so that the battery drains out. (screen turns yellow-ish).

It's been ages since I played the 360 version, but am I wrong in saying that you could hear Wake read the manuscript pages during gameplay? Or were you always required to go into the sub-menu to hear them?

I believe the second state isn't doable with kb\m, like the IGN preview video mentioned. Hooking the 360 controller should grant you that possibility.

It's the exact same as the 360 version with a controller. I've used like 2 batteries in the first two episodes because I use the in-between strength all the time.

Yes, kb/m skips the second part, but should work with a controller. If not (have not tried) - it's a feature which should get added.

Ah okay :)

Some guy over on the Nvidia forums said to try running the game with the SLI profile 0x02502805 (F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin). I just tried it, and although there is quite a lot of flicker, the game runs like a dream. So I wouldn't call it a fix, but it gives me hope that the game can be made to work well with SLI.

I'm stuck on a section in chapter 2 where you need to use the flares. I didn't realise that you had to hold in the mouse button and wasted and bunch of them, now the game is telling me to 'grab the flares from the emergency box' and there's none left, leaving me with just my flashlight which is making this section all but impossible for me. Now I have to restart the whole bloody chapter because there are no quicksaves/quickloads or any kind of staggered saves at all.

...sigh...

Once I locked the framerate to 30fps, everything was a-ok

720p
Everything set to High with 2MSAA

Looks light years beyond the 360 version and this is totally my definitive version of the game. Love it

Only wish I could get rid of the microstutter ...yay PC gaming

There's a "load last checkpoint" option though.
