I'm gonna just go with the standard, but thanks man. I only have a PS3, but I'm planning on sticking with it much longer than I did with SF4. Also probably going to pick up Persona 4 Arena when that comes out too. Hopefully I can keep up with fighting games this time around.

I respect that. Persona 4 is gonna be awesome, but if it plays like Blazblue in terms of execution it may make you sad lol. I have huge problems with BB's combos. I can do all the trials in SF4/UMvC3, but BB's? Nope. Hopefully it's a bit more lenient, but I don't think that's how Aksys/ArcSystemWorks rolls when they make their fighters. :p

How much progress do you feel you made during SF4? I think I remember you buying an arcade stick to improve right? Did you get consistent with QCF's, SRK motions, etc? Execution I always felt was my biggest barrier in fighting games that I had to overcome. I have the reactions, reads, mindgames, etc but when it came to doing what I wanted I would fuck up/drop shit. So that's where I put a lot of my focus with SF4 to help level myself up.

It helped that I had a rival in a friend online who was probably winning 70%+ of matches against me, and so it forced me to step it up. It took a year+, but I'm know 50-50 with him in fighters. SF4, SF3, SC5, and UMvC3. SFxT is where I plan to step it up a notch and make myself get to the 70% win ratio against him, because I treat him as my benchmark on what to work with.

If you can find a rival do it. Having a friend to compete with and have fun with makes you stick with games much longer. Now with online training mode too, if you are both ass, you can level each other up. :)

So are there any unlockable gems in the game? Or do you just get what you get from the start and the only way to get more is DLC? Because thus far, I haven't unlocked anything

Of the 12 DLC characters I am:

Most excited for-
Bryan

Think will be the best in top level play-
Cody

Am least excited about-
Blanka

Wish had made the cut instead-
Urien

Corky

Nine out of ten orphans can't tell the difference.
Sigh... I fucking knew the "dlc" chars were gutted so they could nickle and dime us.

I wished the following made the cut
Feilong - I wanted a Fei and Law team
Alex - One of my favourites from 3rd Strike
Miguel - One of the coolest new Tekken characters

Persona is only going to be QCF and B which is interesting, but yeah, I assume the timing will be the same on combos as with BB. I tried a little of BB and it was rather difficult.

Grinding out execution is where I was basically, I felt a little confident in it, but match situations were completely different. I was just starting to get the basics down, I really need to grind out execution though and start figuring out how to read the game better.

There's not really such a thing as "gutting" anymore. DLC gets budgeted out before the game starts development, and files are kept on disc to reduce bandwith costs.

Yup.

I'm just happy that none of the DLC characters are the ones I wish were out right away when game launches. Like if Steve Fox was DLC? I'd be a sad/mad panda.

GAF loves Elena, so I wonder how a lot of those peeps feel about having to shell out extra dough for her. I'm actually glad Blanka is DLC though, that way there won't be AS many as there COULD be, since not everyone will pony up for him.

There's no confirmation that these are the final dlc characters. There could be more characters in development. These are just the dlc characters they started on before the game has shipped.

So since people have been digging around the disc does anyone know if the menu screen pics are rippable? And if there is some chance we get even more DLC characters then Rose, R.Mika, Leo, and Jun would make this one of the best rosters ever imo.

You're telling me that adding a couple more characters to this game would've killed the budget? Stop rationalizing son...

Unless by "budgeted" you mean, "We could make X million dollars from selling on disc content ... let's plan ahead and do it"

It's like you seem to have an idea about what a budget is, but then you ignore that idea to try to make your point.

Currently there are n chars from the start. They could probably have put in n +1 instead. Or (n + 1) +1. Or ((n+1) + 1) +1. Or (((n+1) + 1) +1) + 1. What's the magical cutoff where the budget gets killed?

Currently it's at n.

Game isn't even out yet and the DLC whining starts. Can we at least get to a formal DLC announcement and price points so you can then join the many many other people sure to be complaining.

Aah.

Here's something for your math formula, n for SFXT is 50 based on everything we know/knew about the game, ( not counting ps3 chars ), use that and make another formula.

Hint : currently it's n-12.

Yah BB's timing is what kills me. :(

Just keep grinding execution. I can't even begin to count the amount of matches I lost to just learn lol. I literally would spend matches where I did nothing online in a ranked fight and would just do hadouken motions on both sides of the screen to always have them down. I'd lose sure, but I'd feel more comfortable learning defense and getting that motion down whenever. There are matches I'd do nothing but block and wait for throws to occur so I could get better at teching and reading situations on when people would attempt them.

I also feel like while Capcom trial modes generally have a lot of useless combos, it'd still good to attempt and complete all of them, and come back to ones you get stuck on. They improve execution quite well, even if you may never do some of what they teach you in a real fight, it'll at least help improve you on hitting 2 frame links or 1 frame links more consistently when you come across them.

Hopefully when game comes out though, there will be a scrub GAF population on PSN you can hop on with to spar and keep getting better.

Making a character is more than just throwing a model together, voicing some lines, and slapping on some character art. Lots of things need to be worked out and then balanced. That kind of stuff probably isn't done yet at all.

Art is relatively easy to draw, so it's already on disc.

No, it is currently n (based on all we know about the game). Unless capcom actually confirms a character to be in retail, only to go "sike, dlc", I don't see what else there is to "know" (unless you mean that simply knowing that char x will be in the game before it is announced as dlc means that a company becomes obligated to not sell it as such).

I mean, do you think Ono suddenly discovered the concept of dlc during the process of making sfxt and had to cut a few characters from the rooster so that they'd have something to sell?

For those looking to get it early in Toronto, check kijiji.. there's a super fishy guy, in a pretty fishy neighbourhood selling early copies. Just got mine earlier.

I'm not saying it's easy to add characters - I'm saying it's 10 times easier to remove them and add them later on for an extra charge.

Come on gaf... don't tell me anyone here actually thinks these characters haven't been finished among the regular roster. The team isn't going back to work after march 6th and starting to model/balance the dlc chars.

I think Ono has mentioned that he's still tinkering on Blanka. Obviously it's Ono we're talking about here, but if there's one thing I will ever believe him on, it's that he's taking extra care to work on Blanka.

It's not like this hasn't been done before by other games. The exact same thing happened with MK9 with Scarlett having some bits left over and, IIRC, actually playable via an exploit, but was incomplete. Missing voice, etc. So they very well could be going back to work after march 6th and starting to model/balance the DLC characters. There's no real proof either way as of yet.

Shout outs to Corky ignoring the Ono interview the other day were they said they are having a hard time getting blanka to work properly in this engine but they want him in.

Aka, these are all unfinished characters for the most part. Game has been gold for a while now. Why is it shocking that the cgi is on the disc, if you notice the VOICE OVER stuff isnt there though.

Bryan is fucking psyched that he found Jack.

Well he does love weapons, and jack is a crazy ass weapon.

Yeah, it's easy to neglect and postpone "simple" things like artwork/voicework on characters you don't plan to release day 1. That doesn't mean they couldn't have been there had they ( corporate ) actually wanted them to be there day 1.

Of course they been there since day one. *leak list*

The problem is they have a release date to meet and the best way to meet that is to cut out characters and make sure the others are all as solid as possible.
