Minecraft |OT2| Punch Your Way to Your Own World

Had about 12-15 people on most of the night tonight. The big key to make our server work is a good enough size group of people playing frequently and on different sides. We'll do our part to bring people in, but if you like it when you get on, let others you play with know.

Good to see that there's a good amount of people on so far. I'm leaning towards the Sasquai Front is that region overpopulated?

No, Sasquai Front could use some good people. Seems a lot are going Almas currently.

Thanks, there should be a bunch more people on in the evening.

I hopped on for a little bit earlier today and joined the Sasquai Front. I have myself a little base setup near the border. So far I must say I'm really liking the server and how well organized it is.

Thanks! The real fun will come when we've got a good group of people on each side. Again, if you have any suggestions or catch any bugs, let us know.

So Yeticraft is good then? I havn't even been keeping up =/

Been getting my ass kicked at work.

Yup, it's PvP with a very easy to follow set of rules. I also like that there are different regions that offer different levels of the PvP experience. If you give it a try join the Sasquai Front that's the one I'm in. :)

so... Yeticraft, if i want to be a loner who ruins everyones day, i go almas right?

Yep, Join me in Almas.

I wanted to increase the chance of PvP action so I joined Almas and will just start wandering the lands as a lone ranger looting other people. I just need to build up some supplies and get some farms going first.

Crazy you're number one on my hit-list!

You missed your chance yesterday to get me. I was wandering around Almas completely lost while I was trying to get to the Sasquai Front. Once I get my base more established and get enough supplies I'm heading out to Almas to get some kills. :)

always nice to start a game with 40 beef and some iron.

When I first got on and while lost in Almas I dug down to get some iron and redstone so I could start the process of making a map. Within minutes I hit a ravine went down to the bottom and found enough diamonds to make a sword and pick axe...it was a good start. :)

Ok, I've never played Minecraft PvP, but all of you guys talking is making me curious. I may have to try this out and see what it's like.

Yeah, come give it a shot. We can team up in the beginning if you want while you see if you like PvP.

And there's a lot of mining which is right up your alley. :)

I think I may have said it before, but if not, let me say it now; I think Yeticraft and NeoCraft are easily able to coexist. NeoCraft offers something completely different from what we're doing on Yeticraft and it's good to have a change of pace.

I certainly don't want everyone to just run to our server and abandon the great things that have been done on NeoCraft. Enjoy both!

Also, thanks to Quickie (not sure if that's the same gaf name) for finding a bug in the chest protection. Just banged my face against the screen all afternoon trying to replicate it on our test server. Think I finally tracked it down and that will probably be updated tonight.

On another note, I also fixed leaves not regening on the trees in the public dome. Those empty tree trunks were a little awkward lol. No replanting is necessary at either the dome or the greenhouses along the road. Ignore those signs.

One more thing. If you're new to our server, please take the time to read the rules or even just the front page item at www.yeticraft.net. I know there's a lot covered, but it's important you understand how and why things work the way they do.

I also feel they can both coexist. I'm really excited that Neocraft will be on 1.2 soon so I can keep working on my projects there, and quickly switch over to Yeticraft when I'm wanting a little more tension and action.

Seems the server is now broken. Fantastic.

I'll send a support ticket in. I can't give an ETA as to when it'll be up, but tomorrow is my last day before holidays start again for two weeks so I'll get around to fully updating the server some time around then.

Hey ark, if you need help updating plugins and making sure everything is working, I'll be happy to help you out.

So yeah erm how about that update on Neocraft, cool or what ? Just one question erm has anyone seen my Dome City anywhere ? I seem to have misplaced it :p

Yeah, um...seems like the server map got reset with the update. I think. This morning's backup is 890MB so we have the map, but I think they done goofed something up.

Unless this new world is simply...above.....the old one? o_O

That's a joke of course. Maybe....

So I thought I'd show another screenshot to show off progress on my Mega-Super-Castle-City Project. It's just a shot of the map, with the plan being to eventually have the city take up the whole thing. While a lot of the lines on the map are really just foundations of where things will go, a fair amount of it is already built.

As you can see, the moat on the bottom is coming along nicely. Half of it has been dug to full depth, the other half is a work in progress. The entire southern wall is complete, built to height, with towers. Now all that's left is decorative touches. I'm working on the western wall, but it got monotonous, so I started working on the interior.

The diagonal lines on the map, and all the sand, exist just as guidelines, helping me mark off where one pixel on the map ends and another begins. The squares that are starting to form are the main roads of the city, and the plan is to have it sort of tiered. The other ring will be at ground level, then next layer is about 8 blocks higher, bigger houses will go there, maybe a church, we'll see. Finally, there will be a top tier upon which sits the castle. So this is what I've got so far, just the map. If there's any interest in seeing actual pictures, just let me know! :D

YESSSSSSS

Thanks, Ark!

EDIT: Oops, didn't notice there was a whole new page. One that explains why there was nothing there! :( Thanks for working on it!

I think I know what has happened. The new update has to convert the old world to the new "anvil" system. However I remember reading on multiplay that some low end servers cannot cope with this converstion due to memory limits.

The advice multiplay gave was to download the old map, convert it to the new anvil system then upload the converted map back up to the server.

So what has happened is when the upgrade happened it could not convert our world to the new system and so created a new world.

So about Neocraft an Jungles, how will we handle this ?

Exploring randomly will cause the map size to increase real fast, so will someone convert an old biome to jungle using some third party software ? or find one a set a spawn there ?

Because it would definitely be nice to have a genuine jungle biome somewhere, cause I'm not really a big fan of "random moderator throws me away some ocelots and jungle saplings"

Another question concerning old maps (well I guess there will be the usual chunk errors :p ) but if I search for slime chunks using Neocraft's seed will the slime chunks still be accurate knowing the map was created from some beta build ?

I don't think any of that changes because of a new build. If you were to generate a map with a seed using 1.2, it would look the same, apart from some biomes being changed if you used the same seed and generated the map with 1.1

The slimes should be right where they were. An option for you guys is to use something like worldborder to create a border for the world that's not too far out from your current explored area, then have dynmap update and it should show you where the jungles are without someone having to randomly wander in different directions

OK I have been fiddling about with things and it does appear that the old world was unable to be converted to the new Anvil file system on the server. I downloaded an old backup of Neocraft and ran it through minecraft here on my PC. It took about 20 mins to convert the world to the new Anvil system and from what I can tell everything seems to be working fine.

Unfortunately I can't upload the newly converted world back to the server for two reasons. Firstly I have a 40k/sec connection which means it would take me nigh on 10 hours to upload nearly 1gb and secondly I honestly do not have a clue how to upload the world back onto the server.

But the good news is that it can be sorted, it is relatively "painless" to sort it but we just have to arrange the mechanics to get it done.

I have a faster upload than you CC (would still take me a few hours to up it tho), but I've never uploaded a file through the clanforge ftp yet, I'd have to figure that out first. Did use the 3-29 morning backup? I need to get the latest backup anyway to update the dropbox map. I could probably do it tonight if you can't figure out a way first.

I used one of the older backups by mistake :p just downloading the latest version of the map now and going to try and convert it. As long as your version of minecraft has enough ram allocated to it you should be able to convert it with no problem. It took about 20 mins on my i5 so it isn't too bad but the first time I did it Minecraft ran out of RAM :-/

I am going to have a look around on clanforge now and see how you actually upload a map. I would do it but there is honestly no way I could get it done in a reasonable time with my crappy connection. If I get any further info I will pm ya but it "should" be just a case of ftping into the server and uploading the world folder.

Just had a look and this seems to be how you do it :-

Out of curiosity, that wouldn't cause MC to consider it a different map entirely and lose everyone's inventory, correct? I honestly don't know how MC handles that aspect.

Is it possible to trim off some of those outer threads explored off the main map area? Would be nice to have the map cleaned up a bit. I do see some Nether portals scattered about by what looks to be mushroom biomes so I suppose one wouldn't know what a person could have built out there.
