Would it look weird on my shelf to have vol. 1 of a trade in paperback and vol. 2 in hardcover? S.H.I.E.L.D. if anyone is wondering what I'm actually getting.
Still no response? I could really use the advice here, guys.

Yeah, seeing Marvel try to incorporate 9/11 and Obama into their world is just fucking bizarre. It's just way too messy and desperate for attention.
Marvel actually uses a shadowy, unnamed president literally 99% of the time. If we had more than one black president, you wouldn't know which one Marvel was using.

Just my opinion, but yes it looks weird but it only matters if YOU think it matters. I've switched between hard- and soft- covers on a number of series based on availability of funds at the time of purchase, sales of clearance stock, out of prints, etc. It doesn't bother me so long as I get to read them.

a good rule of thumb is not to read anything after storm got rid of her mohawk

Chris Claremont's X-men will always be my favorite of the incarnations. Though I loved Jim Lee's work almost as much - despite the fallout between the two after the latter took over.

STOP SHITTING ON MY MOTHER'S HEADSTONE
This is actually what I hate the most about Marvel. It's one major reason I like DC more.
I don't know, I always thought it was weird that DC sort of wants to have it both ways. Like they'll have fake cities AND real cities at the same time. Sometimes. Central City! Metropolis! Gotham! Coast City! But also Washington DC! El Paso! Chicago? New York? There are countries like Qurac and Bialya and Khandaq, but there's ALSO just regular fuckin' Egypt and Saudi Arabia and Afghanistan and shit?

Does the DC Universe version of America have a population of 600 million? Is the Statue of Liberty in New York or Metropolis?

If you're asking the question, it means it probably matters to you. If you didn't care then it wouldn't even occur to you to ask.

In order to feed you OCD, I am going to suggest that if you don't have matching trade releases then YOU MIGHT ACTUALLY DIE and certainly anyone that ever comes into your house will think you a plebian.

This is nerdy as hell, but in JLA/Avengers they mention how the DC Earth is physically larger, accounting for all the extra cities and countries.

Ha, yeah I forgot about Firestorm too! But you're missing out if you're not reading Catwoman, it's actually very good and I was a massive skeptic going into it.

Every single book that used to be Wildstorm. Every one.

Jim Lee only did like 8 issues without Claremont. They weren't bad, but you could tell someone new was writing the characters.

I saw the preview for ULTIMATE SPIDERMAN CARTOON and its pilot.

It's clearly aimed for 9-15 year kids.

The good: Jameson is no longer a leader of newspapers, the fading industry. Now he's Rupert Murdoch, media mogul who uses his vast news media to discredit Spiderman. This is the BEST way to update the character and keep him relevant.

The other good: They're stealing Bendis' Spiderman-goes-to-SHIELD-SUPERHERO SCHOOL idea. However, since that was the best concept Bendis came up with before he was killed, it's good that it's reborn.

The bad: The stories are aimed at kids. Like, REALLY aimed at kids. The dialogue and pacing is clearly supposed to invoke the "Coooooooool, I wish I was him!" factor. Art's lame, but that's to be expected for a cartoon, not a comic.

Like, it really seems like something I'd like if it was 14 again, but now...meh.

We'll always have Spectacular Spider-Man. And hopefully the next movie is good.

i read the preview comics only but the art and animation appear to be stellar in the trailers we have seen so far. i prefer the art style way more here than Spectacular.
I think the man of action guys comment how Loeb made the writing staff rein it in if the 4th wall stuff went overboard. The focus also seems to be primarily on Peter despite the added cast so that's great as well.

What I picked up this week:

Avengers vs. X-Men #0
Superman #7
Aquaman #7
The New Deadwardians #1
Avenging Spider-Man #5
American Vampire #22, 23, 24, 25
X-Men Legacy #264

And a weekend with very little responsibility coming up, finally!

Ill pick up the trade since we seem to share a taste in comics. Also, holy fuck Legion has 2 books. The hell?

never scored a black and white cover before....its like holding a baby unicorn for the first time

FF #16
ALL THE INFINITY GAUNTLETS FOR DOOM.
And lest we forget, Galactus and Mister Franklin had one of the best moments ever too.

Is this Hickman's Shield series? I'd sell the paperback and buy the hardcover since they are oversized.
Okay, that was my main concern, thank you. And thanks to everyone else to responded too, you guys were also right and I'll keep that in mind.

I also like that they got Chris Samnee, Stuart Immonen, and Gabrielle Dell'Otto drawing some upcoming issues. If you're gonna do fill-ins, you can do a LOT worse then an art team like that.

Parallax

best seen in the classic "Shadow of the Beast"
Sounds like Wells/Joe Mad Spidey and Elektra story will be part of a mini instead of Avenging.

Love this cover from the Dodsons
