I saw Gruber link to this article and I don't know why this didn't occur to me, with the whole Google Play thing: Google Will Abandon Android

I wouldn't be surprised at all if this is slowly a play at the bigger picture. Read the article rather than just that headline btw. I wish for it to come true, google needs to take control and create the brand that they would like to create to make a better overall experience.

This is the worse idea EVER!

Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE. clunkiest name ever

http://www.engadget.com/2012/04/04/htc-evo-4g-lte-preview-video/

Loving Sprint's variation. Microsd, bigger battery, and a kickstand? Awesome. Only downside is the lack of removable battery (and Sense). Going to see when my mom's upgrade is up. She's still using the original EVO.

I kinda skimmed that Engadget article, so maybe it mentions it, but I think the Verge said the screen is a slight downgrade. Plus it doesn't have that beautiful case of the One X.

What about tablets? Please take one for the team and get the Asus Memo 171. I haven't found a decent review yet (well, a decent review in english :?).

The only time they mention the screen, they basically refer to it being the same 4.7" LCD2 that is in the normal One X....

Looks kinda ugly imo. Maybe will look better in other colours.

If I bought Swiftkey once, do I have to pay for newer versions?
so far, you get the newer version.

damn, i was close!

Huh. I am looking at mine now. When I hit My apps it goes to the page and it says "installed". Then I can scroll to the right and it goes to "all" which is everything I ever purchased (or downloaded for free), installed or not.
Edit: There we go. Just popped up now.

Now I have another question. How do I remove free apps that I don't have installed from the "All" section?

Time to ditch my Evo 3D when this comes out.

Gosh dammit AT&T... you better have a micro sd slot and a bigger battery too...fuck a kickstand though...original one x looks way better

Edit: and it better be $199 and not $299 on contract...

Bet money they try to charge 300

I also have that $50 off at Best Buy too though

So Sprint throw in all kind of bullshit monikers in the name but they couldn't sneak the "One" in there? What's wrong with "EVO One LTE"?

It's the superior version though. Is the battery replaceable?

Nope in order to keep the thinness if the phone.

Sense, buttons, and... Sprint say otherwise. ;P
I wouldn't be surprised if more Sprint users know what an EVO is compared to a Nexus phone, though. There are plenty who skipped the EVO 3D for a non-shitty successor, and I think they just got it. The GN has the advantage of stock android, but it's almost guaranteed this will have a strong development community so that partially negates that advantage.

If I were a sprint user, it'd definitely be a tough decision.

Outweighed by the microSD kickstand and much better camera mane. HTC delivered for the first time in a long time. Vanilla Android is nice and all, but I have seen this new sense in all of the review videos, and read the reviews from people very critical of HTC and sense. This new version aint bad at all and could easily be my daily driver.

I wouldnt recommend the Nexus to folks over this, especially if Sprint intros the Nexus with a smaller than 2k mAh battery, and without expandable storage. Not enough folks care that much about Vanilla Android. And with easily rootable devices, and the stock HW manufacturers overlays getting lighter, and better and better each iteration, Im starting to care less also.

I honestly think strong development communities are the most important thing if you want longetevity in a phone. I know a ton of people that are still using the original EVO (it's aged remarkably well) and the ones I talked to today are all excited about this in a way that they weren't for the EVO 3D. Curious to see how well it does.
The main problem facing Android today.
as someone who wouldn't use a phone without it, there are far worse problems. Additionally, I really dislike how they handled updates for the Nexus One and Nexus S for users that don't root/flash the latest roms after the next phone came out. Wouldn't be surprised if the Galaxy Nexus (and more specifically, sprint and verizon's variants) get treated the same way.

To me is a no brainer. EVO LTE has better screen, bigger battery, sd card, better cpu. Community support is probably on par but I wouldn't be surprised to find more customer roms on XDA. XDA has always been very supportive of top end HTC phones.

Really I don't even want a vanilla ICS rom, I want a good MIUI 4.0 rom.

But Sprint is a dying carrier, I wouldn't touch it myself. :p

They have good service in my area and a pretty good userbase. I'm sure I'll see a ton of these around. I'd like to switch because the prices are a lot cheaper but CDMA is too big of a downside to me.

That Evo 4G LTE will be mine. I have been using an Evo 4G since November '10 and have been waiting for a badass phone to replace it. Now there is certainly a lot of time between now and when my contract is up, but this new Evo is looking great to me. The dedicated camera button is huge for me and something I felt was needed for whatever my new phone is to be. Bringing back the kickstand is also awesome, it is a great little feature of the original Evo.

Of course, the Galaxy S III could come out and wow me, but for now, Evo 4G LTE will be the phone for me to get when I am ready to upgrade.

I posted this in the Galaxy thread, but I don't know how fast it moves so I'll ask here:

Anybody have a current contract that they ordered their upgrade phone on Amazon? I'm on Verizon but I have unlimited data grandfathered, but I'm afraid if I upgrade my phone through Amazon I will lose my unlimited data. Anybody know for sure?

This phone is 99 bucks and I figured that was a pretty good deal.

I believe Amazon has the ability to check account status, upgrade eligibility, and such, BUT they can only offer current plans. I don't believe they can handle grandfathering. I ordered my Droid Charge from them last summer, but this was right before the "Unlimited" went away, and was still available. Here is the question on their help page....

Amazon Wireless said:
I’m already paying for a plan with my carrier. Why am I asked to choose another plan during the ordering process? Am I going to be charged more?

When you upgrade an individual line of service, you'll choose a new plan based on the carrier’s current plan offerings. The new plan will replace your existing plan; any differences in the plan price will be reflected on your monthly bill from the carrier.

I'd definitely write them and ask first, just to be sure. Amazon is always really awesome with responding to things like that, so I'm sure they'll be able to answer....

Thanks, that was what I was afraid of. Oh well, worth it to just pay more for the phone to keep my unlimited. Amazons customer service is top notch though, so I'll definitely give them a call.

Weird how the Evo LTE has both matte and glossy sections on the back. I'm guessing the idea is that the area around the camera is glossy so you can use it like a mirror when you're taking a picture of yourself with the back camera. The guy from the Verge said it looked good in person, but I don't know. Well, that bit is removable, so maybe they'll make a matte replacement piece.

I dunno about you but multiple reviews saying "best screen on a phone" sure raised my eyebrow.

i think im convinced too... LG Nitro had a great screen. Too bad it was a subpar smartphone.
Pretty sure the One X's screen is different from LG's IPS screens. Need to see one in person as soon as possible.

That's what I'm hoping for, though I will probably get a case for it so maybe it really doesn't matter.
