The Avengers - Trailer #2

I understand that, it still felt like everything I watched was for nothing, because Disney/Marvel wants The Avengers. There could have been a better way to do it without making it seem so forced.

...except this is how it happened in the comics, aside from Bucky being there.

There are parts of the movie that are bad, but this isn't one of them.

"@colliderfrosty: Absolutely loved THE AVENGERS. Was smiling from beginning to end. If you're a Marvel fan you're going to lose your shit in the theater."

"@SethGreen: So that was AMAZING. Like, double plus awesome. Thank you Joss Whedon for giving us all the #Avengers movie we deserve. #OnlyYou"

"@slashfilm: The Avengers is pretty epic. There is probably more action in this film's climax than all the other Marvel movie combines!"

"@mrbeaks:"@mrbeaks: THE AVENGERS. Finally, a Marvel film with a rousing finish. I'll deal with the first two acts in my review. And that third act is more than enough to make THE AVENGERS the best Marvel movie yet."

"@EricIGN: It. Was. Awesome!! #TheAvengers #Avengers http://pic.twitter.com/uxBxb860"
" Full Avengers review embargoed and not gonna go into huge details. But... Ruffalo is terrific as Bruce Banner. Makes the role his, big time."

Hype levels rising.

Always the tag bridesmaid, never the tag bride.
I thought Captain America's ending was what helped redeem it after the rest of its god awful third act. The "I had a date line" was delivered so well. And this comes from someone who fucking hates just about everything Joe Johnston touches.

I recall reading in the OT thread for Captain America that they shot an extended scene where he see's the love interest
in a retirement home after he wakes up in the modern setting.
Is there any truth to that?

I saw that and knew that going into the Capt. It felt like it could have been perfectly done but they took it away to just hype up this film, utterly disappointing.

So they actually shot that scene? Was hoping to see it as an extra somewhere but I guess it wasn't included in the home release.

Looking forward to hearing some impressions amongst us.

Anyone snag tickets to the premieres in the 10 cities going on this Saturday? I tried getting some for both the Miami and Orlando dates, but had no luck. Apparently they went up before the Facebook page updated, so I was many hours late to the party.

No wonder you like Nolan's Batman movies so much. You clearly don't read comic books!

I'm not a fan of the MARVEL movies (despite the fact I saw them all) but I am looking forward to this film.

But I have to say, not to burst anyone's bubble, that all these first hand reactions from Twitter mean literally nothing. We get these sort of Tweets after every big fanboy film and they are almost always over excited, smug overreactions.

Case in point Captain America. Numerous Tweets after it was first shown to critics, bloggers etc and they all painted it as some kind of masterpiece......, which it decided was not.

I like hearing that the 3rd Act has more action than all the other Marvel movies combined. I always felt the other movies were a bit light on action.

Oh come on. Iron Man 1 was a really great superhero movie that had a ton of appeal to non-fans of the comics.
Well to be fair, most of those movies won't remembered for being great works of art. They are entertaining action flicks, with character many people love.

I do like them though.

...., and the rest?!

Loved Iron Man 1, liked Iron Man 2, Capt America, Thor. Never read any of the comics.

Maybe thats the problem. Maybe its the comic fans that aren't as happy with the movies. But then thats kind of an impossible task, pleasing everyone who will presumably all have slightly different views on what they want from the movies.

Iron Man was great, Iron Man 2 was good I thought, Captain America meh, I just don't dig the WWII setting, plus, Red Skull is a lame villain, not an interesting confrontation ; TIH is good, Thor is one of my favorites, don't understand why some of you are bashing it.

I actually had no problems with any of them. All of them are fun films that stay true to the comics. That's what I want.

Comics, serious business!
I don't get the hate for Thor. People always complain about the small town setting. I thought it was a perfect contrast to asgard. The film had tons of heart and helms killed it as Thor.

The only weak part of any of the films was the second half of captain america. However, the first part was up there with the best of any superhero movie.

I'm with you. I've enjoyed all of them a great deal. They've all been great, entertaining, fun rides that were pretty true to their source material. That's what I'm looking for more than "that shot could have been staged better."

I agree about Thor, and it's better on repeat viewings, IMO. And while I'm not down on the second half of Cap they way others are - the first half was perfect. Evans was a GREAT Steve Rogers, Stanley Tucci was incredibly likeable, Tommy Lee Jones was hilarious, and Hayley Atwell was gorgeous. Awesome movie all around.

I'm looking forward to rewatching all the Marvel Universe movies in the week before The Avengers comes out. Marvel is fun.

I received the BluRays for Iron Man and Incredible Hulk from Amazon, so my marathon is on for Sunday. We'll start around 10 or 11 AM and try to run through all of them.

Plus, Straczinsky's run takes place in a small desertic area near Oklahoma, very similar to the movie.

It's cool that you enjoyed them all, but can you really not see the flaws?

Can you really blame people for being underwhelmed by their triteness?

Can't wait for The Avengers to appear in the cinema.
I've recently caught up with Captain America, but Thor and Iron Man are definitely my favourites of the films. I wasn't at all interested in Iron Man because I never cared much for him in the comic, so that was a pleasant surprise.
I thought IM2 was a little disappointing though.

Love Hawkeye in the film, he was my favourite character when I was a kid. Really wish he had his own film.

Loaded questions suck. Those of us who like the movies don't find them trite, so yes, I blame someone who shares an opinion I don't have.

If someone else doesn't like something, that's their issue - not mine. Anyone who doesn't like the films is free to say the same thing about my opinion. They can be quick to blame me for liking the films.

I really enjoy the Marvel films and I don't see, thankfully, the major flaws that these films apparently have.

Think about it like this. The original Star Wars came out in 1977, I was six, there was no internet. Obviously, it was a huge hit, a cultural phenomenon, and remains beloved to this day.

Now, does it have flaws? Was it perfect? Is there triteness?

Basically what I'm trying to say is, if that movie came out today every scene would get over-analyzed and ripped apart on message boards. Back then we just tried to enjoy the movie.

I try to look at the whole, and in the case of the Marvel Studios films, found the whole to be enjoyable.

That they inhabit a shared film universe, for one. I also found it refreshing that they respect the characters and source material, yet don't take it so seriously they drain the fun out of the movies.

This sums it up nicely. First off, no one has tried to do this whole shared universe thing yet - which is saying something when Warner Bros. owns DC and could actually pull this off from a legal/rights standpoint, but they haven't. Marvel only has movie rights to certain properties, but they're trying to pull them together.

And after seeing so many comic franchises make several unnecessary changes when moving to film, it's incredibly refreshing to see the source material treated with some respect.

Why does a comic book movie(s) need to be original?

Hipster generation. Nothing is good if it isn't completely unique, but ironically all the "good" stuff shares an identical dark brooding tone with a miserable flawed and conflicted protagonist, reflecting the critic's own world view.
