Returns was a flawed, but good film.

I think it will be around a solid 85-90 percent on RT.

Nah, probably more along the lines of mid-70s. A film of this type won't resonate with everyone. It'll still be "certified fresh," but I doubt it's going to hit the tomatometer level of Iron Man.

I was wondering how they would explain how Thor has returned to Earth after the ending to Thor.

"And in order to shoe-horn in The Avengers before Thor 2, Whedon has to shrug and ignore an ending that had Thor trapped on Asgard longing to reunite with his dream girl scientist Jane (Natalie Portman). Here, he somehow lands back on earth no problemo, and when he learns Jane was transferred six states away for her own safety, he doesn't even bother to visit."

Just ignore it. lol

One of the reviews on RT.

Speaking of RT, one rotten goes up and it gets 50+ complaining comments in like 45 seconds. Stop embarrassing me, internet.

Equally, I'm tired of people saying early reviews don't count because it's only made up of enthusiast press.

The Avengers almost works. It's funny and it's physical, but even at two and a half hours, it plays like it's on fast-forward. Forget character development—there's not even character explanation.

If such a thing can be said about a $220 million dollar blockbuster, The Avengers needs more ambition.

Hmm.

From people who have seen the movie

the dialogue alludes to the fact that Odin had to expend some energy to transport him, his goal being to bring Loki back. By the end he can travel between midgard and Asgard with the the Tesserect.

Still sounds like a pretty crappy way to explain it after Thor's ending. It's almost like even Marvel was like "Eh, no one gives a shit about this relationship".

No, People are entitled to their opinion. She didn't like it, fine, but at least do your job as a professional. Seems to be a contrarian though

But I do find it funny that you would ignore all the positive ones.
I'm not ignoring them, they aren't really saying much to quell my worries.

The fun thing it's she give it 3/5 stars. Also, she give "Green Hornet" a FRESH!! lolol

I think the way RT works is that the reviewers submit the fresh or rotten rating. (At least that's what Expendable said when i asked him)

It's ok for her to like or dislike a movie. She probably views things from a different lens than the fanboys/girls and that's good. But you have to a carefully proofread what you post. If you are unsure, a quick look at IMDB will tell you who Sam Jackson is playing.

I found Green Hornet to be a fun movie. 3D was shit and I have no desire to re watch it, but I had fun and did not regret paying to see it.

I watched it too and enjoyed the shit out of it. It was fun, dumb but the action scenes where good and as always Kato steals the show.

There's probably other folks in this thread who have seen the movie, I've not checked, but I was fortunate enough to see a fan screening in London last week. Hand on heart, I can honestly say I was blown away and am as desperate to see it again on release as I was the minute I stepped out of the cinema. I did not expect it to be as good as it was, it's just one big, joyous thrill ride. Anyone who has enjoyed any of the Marvel preludes leading up to this can't fail to enjoy it.

It is without a doubt my favourite superhero movie of all time.

It is explained but in basically one, off-hand line from Loki that sounds like a setup for Thor 2.

You don't even have to stretch your imagination.

Good cinematography.
Good score.
Good performances.

Great scenes? Plane sequence is still the best superhero action scene put to screen, brief as it was. The flying car scene is goddamn magical. Superman flying from the biplane into the sun is gorgeous. Superman getting the shit beaten out of him was pretty unnverving. The shot of him falling unconsciously back to earth looks great. Supes scene with his sleeping son?

There is plenty of great stuff in the film. But of course it is marred by the silly attempt to rehash Donner's 1978 plot. The flight over Metropolis is nice in Returns, but ultimately feels empty compared to it's original source, despite Ottman's fantastic rendition of the original scene's score.

Superman Returns is a flawed film, but a good film. It's still a huge shame that the opening Krypton search scene was never on the theatrical cut.

wat

There's literally 10 scenes I think of off the top of my head that are better than that. SR was simply bad--treated more like a god with no appropriate threat for him. A Kryptonite island? C'mon.

The problem with Cyclops is that from the beginning he should have been played by Michael Biehn.

This is funny. The movie would've needed to be made in the early 90's for that to happen. Also, it would've sucked.

is the complaint about character development correct? it shouldnt matter cause that's what the stand alone movies were for, but i do expect some development as they learn to work together.

There's not a vast amount of time for it, but I think they do plenty to justify everything, while also keeping it all ticking along. However, when it comes to working together as a team in combat, there's no training sessions, it's a trial by fire.

Good to hear positive impressions amongst us. I really wish I got a chance to attend one of the early screenings they had in the 10 selected cities. I think my college is in the running for one still.

sounds perfect, a training session would have felt out of place in my opinion.

Yeah, when movie critics discovered this plenty of them just started being overly critical towards blockbusters/movies with nerd fanbases in order to bring more hits onto their sites.

You can read all about it in my blog, "Why you suck and everything you like is awful"

half the shit in comic book movies I like for the simply fact these are comic book characters come to life on the big screen. Half my enjoyment is stemming from that alone.

I was never really into the superhero cartoons. I watched them a little bit. Mainly Spider-Man, but I barely remember anything. I have never read a super hero comic. I read Jurassic Park comics when I was 7. Didn't start reading comics really till I was 23 and that was things like Fables and Walking Dead. All that being said the opening of X2 is awesome.

Comics, serious business!

It's on GAF, too. People bitch and moan about shit mostly because they're attention whores. Case in point: Expendable.
