That'd be nice if they stayed true to the bill of goods they've sold us, but I can honestly see them offering co-op as DLC and then couching it as "the fans asked for it!"

When have they done this? Why are we expecting the worst from Capcom just because they have shitty DLC practices in their fighting games?

I like that you can turn off all displays and hell the fact you can disable the cinematic camera is awesome too. This demo definitely should of just been a timed demo though.

Well, all I can tell you is that they designed the game around the Pawn sharing system within a single player experience. It was not designed for co-op, so they can't just throw it in. They have said countless times that co-op would not work within the context of what they are trying to do and goes against the idea they had. Which is a single player game that is personal, yet offers a unique interactive experience with other players at the same time. It is what it is, and co-op is not coming to the game any more than it is coming to Skyrim.

Fair enough. I'm just keeping an eyebrow firmly raised around anything Capcom releases, that's all.

I just did the prologue mission again. The first thing I did was throw that dude in my party off the cliff. Then I didn't get any of the pawns. It felt a lot more like Dark Souls, except a bit more actiony. There are a bunch of items littered around the environment and without those ASSHOLES telling me to keep up, I was free to explore and relax and enjoy it at my own pace. The Chimera fight was tough because of the lack of magic, but I managed to kill the goat, then the snake fairly quickly. Then it was a war of stamina against the lion dude. I used all my health stuff.

I think one pawn max is all I'll want to have when playing this game. It's just too noisy with 4 people.

God's had his chance.
How long before someone makes the blind ninja character with that eyes closed eye set... lol soo good. Last night i was all "Hey honey!"
wife looks away from Ice and Fire... "What?"
*change character face to winking eyes instead of normal eyes... stare at her with stupid shit eating grin ..... wait for it*
"You're an idiot."
"LAWL killing griffons gtg!"

Need to mention as well that one of the first things i did was test whether i could jump off the rock and draw my bow and fire at the goblins in the air. And you can. And it's awesome.

so there seems to be timing combos? Seems like only two combos based just off strider and warrior(?) class. Wonder if you unlock more the more you level up. Would be pretty awesome.

I remember seeing in a stream some core skills that allowed for basic attacks to be changed, or at least that's what I think they were for. They were skimmed over really quickly so I just had to go off the short little description.

Just played the demo for the first time.

Love it.

Did the griffon fight twice second time with just arrows and it felt amazing. Going to try a pawnless run now like suggested

Not the biggest fan of the combat to be honest. Needs a lock-on button (does it have one? Tell me if it does). As someone mentioned earlier, it seems sloppy, plus it's hard to tell what's going on. Might give it another shot later on.

Okay, strike that. I just did the griffin quest and that was fun as hell. I'll probably get this used somewhere down the line since I refuse to support Capcom anymore.

Huh.
That was actually pretty fun. duckroll made it sound like it was the worst game ever. I think I'm gonna get it. Though I also think I'm not going to play with a full group of pawns if I can help it.

I want to download your main pawn!

I think having a full team of pawns is going to be much more satisfying and useful when you have to trek around the world for hours doing quests with little chance to heal and that kinda thing.

Right now this just seems to be a demo of the prologue and another easy quest so... yeah, wouldn't expect it to be hard.

Is the "open world" elements more towards the line of Oblivion (which all the previews seem to compare it to) or is it more along the lines of Kingdoms of Amalur, tons of paths that lead to open areas?

Just because there are AI NPC's that travel with you doesn't mean that it's prepared for co-op in any way. Co-op requires its own balancing system, online component and many, many more things.

And considering this game offers a bunch of unique mechanics, in addition to open world gameplay, co-op just doesn't seem feasible. If you were to grab a friend in co-op, there'd have to be a forced delay to account for the milliseconds of connection delay, which would break up the gameplay flow. Or, without a forced delay, it'd either be hard to get ahold of the other player, cause he's actually somewhere else and the server can't decide, or you'd suddenly be grabbed even though your buddy was far behind. Or you'd suddenly be ontop, or just got shaken off by a mob, cause while you experienced some lag, your buddy grabbed you and threw you onto a mob.

And it's a freeform combat system, with hit based detection -- which most likely would not work well at all in this kind of game. This is what I think, anyways.

I really appreciate that they didn't strip the game down to the bare essentials like many other games do.

It's not the difficulty I'm concerned about, it's the chaoticness of battle and all of the people talking. I don't find that enjoyable. I just did the prologue quest with the one guy you start with and enjoyed it a lot more.

This DL is all over the place. I walk away, come back almost thirty minutes later and it's gone up 2%. Then I check again five minutes later, 10%. Just now, 2% in twenty minutes. WTF?

Check your internet connexion. I download the whole thing in less than 20min this morning.

Ah, fair enough. You could try turning off the subtitles and seeing if that helps any.

And your party/enemy health bars =)
Oh, and your map

Yeah the game feels so much better without alot of the clutter, especially with the sidebars...which I really hope wont be present in the final build.

Wishful thinking?

Turning off subtitles and enemy health bars/tutorials helps alot. Makes the view seem alot more open. Also turning off cinematic camera prevents those awkward slo-mo freeze/zooms.

It was alright. Might be Diablo 3 that is ruining any enthusiasm I could summon but ignoring that completely, it's nothing special, but it's not bad I guess.

Tried the demo. It plays/feels pretty much how I expected it to be. Demo was too limiting to give detailed impressions. I would like to play this game at some point, but I can't support Capcom anymore, especially their current gen console releases because of their business practices (inevitable DLC, etc.) I can't help to think that in half a year or whatever there will be a Dragon's Dogma: Arise Edition with all the DLC packed into one disk.

Enjoy for those who are going to take the day one plunge. I'm out.

Does this game have permadeath? How is health handled and how easy is it to heal from things?

No idea about permadeath, but in the demo you can use herbs to heal yourself from inside the menu. The game pauses while you're in the menu, and the healing effect from herbs is instantaneous. I'm not sure how I feel about that, honestly. I kind of think there should be some kind of animation involved, like in the Souls games, to prevent abuse.

I kinda want to fight with 2 pawns. Me, another melee fighter, and a mage.

The items may be expensive, it's not really something we can see from the demo.

In combat you seem to have a max HP that keeps dropping as you take damage, indicated by the silverish bar. When you get healed by magic it will only go up to that, which, again, meant little in the demo context but when it comes to actually leaving the town and doing a long quest, the health deterioration should impact it a lot.

This whole 'can't support capcom anymore because of DLC fiasco's' makes me cringe. I mean, really? Because they offer exclusive outfits for streetfighter players, that don't add anything to the gameplay, at all, and gives players a more 'exclusive' feel when playing online, you refuse to buy good games that might, in the future, add extra stuff for fans, that don't add anything to the gameplay, at all?

Ah, I didn't notice the health deterioration stuff. Good good.

I don't think you've been paying attention to the most recent debacle(s). I mean, I'm on your side, but that's probably because I don't much care about fighting games. I enjoy them, but I play them very casual almost exclusively with real life friends.

Worth mentioning that health items will heal you up to full. Don't want another health how does it work conversation like from the face sitters club! :p
