PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale GTTV Video

There are Sony fanboys, Nintendo fanboys, Sony fans, and Nintendo fans. The Nintendo fans are the ones that are not shitting up this thread with nonsense and if they have a negative opinion they state it respectfully.

Really, there's only been one of those posts and I'm pretty sure it was a joke. Most negative opinions come from the fact that this looks like a straight up clone.

And as mentioned a few times, it has a well done cohesive art style. Seeing Kratos/Sly/Sweet Tooth/Fat Princess all with ugly auras around them don't really mesh.

I think the characters themselves look to fit in the same universe, but the all encompassing haze along with the dull color palette makes it look kinda unappealing. They even managed to make Ratchet's stage all grimdark when I remember that place being very vibrant.

I guarantee this game would look 100x better on a clear, bright Jouney level, for example.

I think that might be the reason for the white outlines I see around the characters at times in the videos. Helps with them blending in to the background because of the color palettes.

For E3 most likely, Drake is always at E3.

I assume as much, but I think it would have made for a cooler splash if it was the first thing we saw of the game.

Its hard not to compare them.. but even with Brawl.. the first 4 people Nintendo focused on were Mario, Link, Pikachu and Kirby.. 3 of them are huge characters and Kirby is adorable.

I think they've decided on a dull colour palette so as to make the whole thing more cohesive. A character like Nate Drake or Kratos could look really silly in a stage that looks as bright as Ratchet and Clank Future or Sly.
Doesn't stop it from being ugly though.

Why must the textures look like a wii game (at higher res) as well?

I really do hope there are a few visually impressive stages =/

Give me a wipeout stage!

I don't care if it is similar to Smash bros, this looks like a ton of fun to play and I like the idea of a smash bros like game with Sony characters.
Judging by this, I'll have just as much fun playing this game as Smash Bros.

720P and way more effects/activity going on throughout the levels.

Way to post an incredibly tiny pic to somehow prove your point?

I think Smash Bros looks good for the hardware its on, but come on. It can't compete with this. Art style is subjective, I've heard some people claim Mario Galaxy looks better than the best looking PC games on the highest settings. I think they both have similarly appealing artstyles, which is why I was instantly happy when I was shown footage of Playstation All Stars because it had the same sort of look and vibe to it as Smash Bros, just with a different cast of characters, HD screen quality and other next-gen effects.

I think Fat Princess and Radec are cool characters. Fat princess is just downright funny, and Radec has a pretty iconic look to him, Killzone series has some awesome looking baddies. Sorry, I guess he's not as cool as "Ice Climbers" to you, to me, they work just as well if not better.

Way more activity? I guess you haven't seen Norfair, or Port Town, or Delfino Plaza, or the Fire Emblem Stage, or pretty much any other Brawl Stage. Those are as chaotic and with beautiful visual effects.

And a tiny pic is enough to support my point that aesthetically Brawl looks much better.

Finally, yeah, Ice Climbers are pretty damn cool.

As a Nintendo fan, this literally makes me sick. SSB is a staple of Nintendo, and it's not right for another company to basically copy and paste the game and call it their own. Hopefully Nintendo will sue or something, because this is so wrong.

really?

I like the level design stuff with Buzz and LBP and Hades and stuff (though Wii U Smash Bros's Kid Icarus stage is going to fucking decimate GoW's nonsense universe), but man, that colour palette.

What approach do you think the game should have taken?

Probably a question for creative game developers rather than forum goers.

No doubt that this game will do things better than Smash Bros. Online, textures, stuff on screen. But if people are being as objective as they claim, this is another in a long line of humorous attempts of Sony to capture the magic of one of Nintendo's franchises.

Yeah, Ice Climbers is definitely way more iconic than the lame Kratos and Sweet Tooth who are not iconic because they are obviously on Sony consoles (duh).

These arguments are never...going...to end.

Like I've already said a few days ago in a different thread:
The flaming and trolling from the Nintendo fans will be hilarious as soon as this game will be shown.
And I was right.
Even some mods here are doing their best, as I can see.
Way to go! ;)

The Buzz stuff seems like it would be straight up annoying in action.

Does anyone have suggestions for niche characters Sony could use?

They could have tried something else but they went the safe route, I guess. Nothing bad in that but nothing good either. I get wanting Kratos in Soul Calibur but I don't see the appeal of playing a Smash type game with Sony characters. But who am I to judge. Would love to hear Sakurai's opinion on this.

I like how almost no one talks of the new ideas they implemented and also how everyone knows everything there is to know about this game with 5-10mins of footage.

And to those who are going on about not finding sony characters iconic as their beloved nintendo ones, not everyone thinks like you. I know it's hard to believe but there are many who actually love these characters! Shocking, I know

I dunno. Smash Bros started as a fighting game prototype Sakurai was dicking around with with generic polygon models and it was only later that the whole Nintendo All-Stars thing came into being.

So I guess do some game design experimentation and prototyping, figure out what works and what doesn't, and then build your massive crossover title around that? Sounds like a more successful process than "hey guys let's copy Smash Brothers." But then, we only have this video segment to work with, so we'll see if there's anything substantially different under the hood.

That's my biggest attraction to it, honestly.

Most likely. It's fine to show a more subdued stage or 2, but I think they messed up not having a few really bright stages for this initial reveal to catch people's eyes.

I really hope they didn't think like that. Half the fun of these games is seeing Snake and Samus on an Animal Crossing level. It would be a major screw up to have the whole game with this "mature filter" haze over it

Me buying this game depends entirely on whether Snake and/or Nathan Drake will be playable characters.
It looks amazing so far though.

Looking again at the video, is it just me or the characters look poorly detailed and low poly?

Maybe she's supposed to be "simplistic" looking, but they could have added a lot more to her design. There's no excuse, specially when you compare it to this, which was done in hardware considerably less powerful:

Game looks pretty weak visually, but I bet there's a fun game hidden under that mess. Some stages obviously have cool concepts, but I doubt that this game is going to have the roster to make it worth investing time into. If the 3rd party characters are who we think they are (MGS characters, Spyro, Crash), then most of the more appealing characters won't even be Sony properties.

Overall, not very impressed with this first showing. As it stands, I feel like all this game is going to do is make me want to play Smash Bros.

That's my biggest attraction to it, honestly.

And part of it is Nintendo's fault for leaving the door wide open for that kinda stuff. If they had a perfectly implemented online for Brawl, less people would be saying, "Hey, I wish Sony/MS would rip-off Smash Bros, so we can actually play it online."

Hopefully they learn.
