Yakuza 5 screens

So why exactly is yakuza exclusive to PS3 again?

Yakuza is one of the few third-party games to stay exclusive to PS3. Why?

When we were deciding which platform was right, it was PlayStation 2. I wanted it to be on the number one platform, so I didn't think twice before approaching Sony. The truth is, at first they turned it down. For the market at the time, they thought it was too niche; they were worried it wouldn't sell, and I got a quite disappointing reply from them. But I kept pestering them, and eventually they gave it a closer look. That's because they saw the passion I had for the game, rather than anything to do with whether or not it would sell. So I'm very grateful. In as much as they were putting their faith in Yakuza, they were putting their faith in me. So at the very least I am committed to Yakuza remaining a game for Sony hardware. I feel like we grew up together.

Did they just give Saejima a face-lift or something? He definitely wasn't this good-looking back in Yakuza 4.

It's the haircut.

Also, I wonder if these pictures aren't considered spoilers... since they definitely don't seem to be in the same place as 4 ended.

HELL YEA, looks great. Haruka's face is consistent with the previous PS3 games which wasn't so clear in the Famitsu photo scan.

Kazuma is immune to gray hairs. lol

Screens look nice but basically the same as the cut scenes from the previous games.
Much more interested in seeing the game play improvements. Also Saejima looks really weird with shaved hair.

This is probably a bad time to admit that I haven't completed Yakuza 4. LOL. I was trying to up everyone's level to 18 before the final battle. Then I got bored running around Kamurocho. Then I got distracted by Mass Effect 2 and other games.

Also, is that a prison on the 3rd Saejima pic? Don't tell me that he's sent back there again.

It does kind of look like the prison yard...

Definitely notice the improvements, looks amazing. Not much else to say other than to painfully wait for this one to come :/ But god damn does it look amazing!

Kaz has aged noticeably, Seajima has discovered the fountain of youth, Akiyama looks exactly the same, and I can't decide whether Haruka has become more paedo-bait or less. Depends how you look at it I guess.

Not gonna lie; I'm still reeling from the distinct lack of Tanimura-san. I'm not a hardcore gamer by any means, but I'd obliterate all foes with that guy and I was proud of it.

This looks sooo good. And everyone looks different except Akiyama, same outfit and sprawled out on the couch as usual :lol

And I'm guessing Tanimura will be involved similar to how Date has been to the series.

Be still my beating heart! I cannot think of another title I want to play more that Y5.

A couple things that strike me as interesting:

- Definitely seeing improvements in graphics and character models.
- Kiyru's new outfit is awesome! And Im glad Im not the only one that noticed he looks like Date a bit now that his getting older.
- Snow in some locations? I hope so!
- Saejima is looking even more bad ass now, my favourite in U4.
- New character Shinada looks sorta like Saejima, could it be his son?
- People always die around Haruka so I expect it will be unveiled that her fighting style is Hokuto Shinken.
- And.. my hair is very similar to Shinada's right now....

That's such an Old school mentality, I love it lol.
Much respect.

looks great. They captured the dotonbori area of Osaka well. I also hope there will be a baseball mini game, with current cast and few . Mascot like lucky and to lucky.

I swear it was just some gibberish, he didn't even try. And as far as I can remember the other "real Chinese" NPC's were speaking Mandarin, at least there were some words mixed in it lol.

It definetely is a prison yard.

Flashback? Maybe explains his more youthful appeance. Or maybe not.
According to the translated Famitsu article,
he's back in prison serving a 3 year sentence. With one year left, he breaks out again.

Although I've not even finished Yakuza 2 since losing my save, hopefully I can get caught up with what the hell's going on through the flashback cutscenes

Crap, what is it about these games that I just don't like. I was the biggest fan of Shenmue, and this really seemed like a spiritual successor, but whenever I played any Yakuza games, I just can't get into them at all. I wish they'd use the popularity of this series to make at least an attempt of something closer to Shenmue, an episodic Yakuza Adventures game made by a second team or something.

I am the opposite. I hate Shenmue, but love the Yakuza games.

I remember the in-game models looking like wax figures - this looks really nice to me. I need to dive into the Yakuza series one day..

probably the combat and the random battle complete with loading screen? at least that's the biggest detractor in most reviews I read about Yakuza game.

they said they finally make battle transition seamless, so I hope I'll never see loading screen for battle mode ever again, they also said player control is improved, not sure what they mean by that, probably responsiveness? if they learn from Binary Domain, that game have pretty responsive character movement that's fun to play.

Yeah, I've heard that before. I'm not suggesting they should make sacrifices to the main series in any way, but perhaps add another smaller team that would try a spin-off in this universe (reusing lots of assets from previous Yakuza games if needed) that would be more attractive to Shenmue audience. They'd essentially get a whole new group of people to sell games to.

That could pretty much be it, and yes, if they're changing that I'd definitely give the series another try.

Loading times has been improved since Yakuza 2, some battles are even almost more or less instant and "seamless battle" has been introduced since Yakuza 3. Only the first game had those loading screens when entering a (random) battle.

Yakuza 3 and 4 only masked those loading time really, you still got the short character intro before you actually fight each other that I think function as the loading screen.

yea, any complaints about loading to combat is from the first game. each iteration improved the loading to the point where it's not even an issue in Y4.

Nice screens look nicee. Haruka has a little swagger going on. I'm sure her fighting style will be fast and cat-like.
before she inevitably gets kidnapped and has to be rescued in act 5

well the short intro is short so it really not much of a problem, but it does break the pacing a little bit, anyway, here's what Nagoshi said regarding Yakuza 5

Nagoshi: We are improving all aspects of the game. We now have seamless transitions in and out of battle.
The tempo of the game is dramatically improved since the previous games.

Start with 3, then 4.

Prologue of the game translated from the website (I think)

someone in official sega forum translate it, should I spoiler tag it?

In april 2010, the chain of events stemming from a dispute between the Tojo Clan and the Ueno Seiwa Clan came to a surprise conclusion when a conspiracy within the police department spanning several years came to light.

After those events, the Tojo Clan undertook a reform under the orders of the sixth chairman, Dojima Daigo. They were in the process of making a deal with the largest clan in Kanai, the Omi Alliance - their longtime enemies.
However...

In december 2012, the seventh chairman of the omi alliance falls critally ill.

The seventh chairman then dies.
The brief period of peace between the Tojo Clan and the Omi Alliance came to an end and a war between east and west broke out. Making emergency preparations that will shake up the entire yakuza community in Japan, the Tojo Clan, pressing to gain strength in the clan quickly, reaches a taboo decision.

That decision is to spread their roots and form alliances with groups from Hokkaido, Nagoya and Fu-kuoka to combat the Omi Alliance. Thus far it has been a grand plan that no one has been able to fulfill.

They engage in desperate negotiations to reach beyond the walls of their territories. But Dojima Daigo, to prevent a huge war, threw the pride of the Tojo Clan to the wind and headed directly to Fu-kuoka...

But at that time, a plan was already in motion - A plan for a huge war involving yakuza groups from around the country. The events quietly unfold. It all begins with the death of a man...

The sleeping men gradually awaken due to the movement of the huge "mountain" that is the Tojo Clan.

Fu-kuoka, Sapporo, Osaka and Nagoya. The men, who scattered across the country to follow their own path, once again leap into a whirlpool of fights for their own beliefs and for the dream of a young girl.

To abandon dreams, to make dreams come true, and to regain dreams once again...

When the destinations of the dreams of the four men and young girl intersect, the events that have been unfolding in five large cities across the country become clear...

So Y3/4 reviews still had people complaining about "loading times" when entering a random battle? I seriously don't know since I don't read (Yakuza) reviews, I know I will like them.

oh yea, I read that. I understand about the lil load where guys get ready and the crowd surrounds you breaks up the pacing. Seems like this one will go right into it which is good.
