Saw this on Twitter.

It makes the obvious jokes but oh well.

These are awesome. :)

I can imagine that to follow will soon pop up images of Castlevania: Mirror of Fate for 3DS, lol.

By the way, to the artist that created the mock-up piece of Star Fox - Metroid: Fusion Saga, excellent work.

Over the weekend I got the bittersweet update on the rumored Star Fox - Metroid: Fusion Saga game and since all of you here were very vocal about the title, some in favor and some against, at the end of the day your feedback was valuable and I appreciate it. Fortunately I was able to find things out once and for all...and with that said, E3 is sure gonna be a helluva lot more interesting!

I guess this means Mama Robotnik isn't quite done digging around for Retro prototypes just yet.

Thank God.

So does this mean you do know what Retro is working on?

Games like Pokémon + Nobunaga’s Ambition and Project X Zone (Capcom/Namco Bandai/Sega game in development by Monolith Soft) were also thought up during this period of establishing more Nintendo character familiarity, helping build up less popular franchises, and showing the core demographic that going into the 8th generation of gaming with Wii U and 3DS, Big N is a forward thinking company.

Awww. :(

EDIT: (I never got why so many people were against it, the idea sounded awesome.)

The reporter in me obviously wanted the game to come to fruition, because landing this kind of scoop doesn't come every day. However when it's all said and done, at least knowing that Nintendo is open to such ideas does make me happy, because the company is showing an evolutionary mindset.

As for the gamer in me, I really wanted a Retro Studios crafted, original first person shooter that would be for Wii U what Perfect Dark was for Nintendo 64 and Halo for Xbox: a new series that could compete amongst the best in its genre yet be exclusive to the Nintendo brand.

Other than that original ip, my next most requested game from Retro was probably Star Fox. Then again, any already-existing franchise that they'd work on, from a new Metroid to Zelda and anything in between, would probably turn out good. Still...if Star Fox - Metroid: Fusion Saga "was" their game that they were going to show off next week, the possibility, as crazy as it sounded, also got me pretty excited for its potential.

It was an "out there" idea, but I'd give the company the benefit of the doubt in trusting them to do a good job with such a project.

Fact: We will see Castlevania as I previously reported and that's news that hopefully most gamers are excited about. "Good Castlevania" = great gaming.

This makes going into E3 a bit more interesting.

Knowing Retro's game might've been a Metroid/Starfox crossover gave a bad impression before even seeing it. The details especially sounded like two gameplay styles smashed together that absolutely wouldn't mesh.

Sure, we could have seen it next week, and it could've worked surprisingly well. But yeah. I am glad that it's definately not on the cards. Now the possibility of a new IP, Metroid, Zelda or Donkey Kong has opened up again, I am a lot more excited.

Sticking two ideas together is evolutionary. Really shows thinking with your noodle.

Coming up with market expanding ideas is boring and LAME-O.

Even when he says it's just a rumour from the very start?
The idea of rumours is that they are based of things heard through the grapevine. Writing up your fantasies doesn't constitute as a rumour.

Thanks for debunking your own rumor :)

I probably repeat myself, but this would be at least a billion times worse than Other M. Even if one of my favorite studios did it. Or maybe even more so, because talent would be wasted on an abomination that simply isn't meant to exist. I'd most likely have to kill something if it were true. The whole idea is high octane nightmare fuel.

So now, we've gone from a rumored wtf implausible crossover, to "Unknown interesting Retro" game.

*sigh* Oh how I crave a mind-blowing TTP post right about now. Oh well.

Did you even read the articles? That's exactly what it was.

This is all that I got. None of this is confirmed…it’s purely a RUMOR, but I put it up because 1) it’s the closest I’ve gotten in 13 months to finding ANYTHING on what Retro Studios might be working on and 2) the source at hand gave me reason to believe that this was at the very least, a concept being pitched around between Nintendo and Retro Studios.

But will the Retro game be at E3?
