This thread is pointless as the toy is not sold out yet. It was only sold out for the day, they'll be in stock everyday at Comic-Con...

manchild culture is a horrible, horrible thing

You're saying this on a video game board...

Anyway, how much longer is it going to be before we get bored of ponies an move on to the next fad? Or is this going to be like Pokemon where it just refuses to die against all sanity.

You know why My Little Pony is huge in the net?

Ready?

Saban fucked up.
4Kids caught the ire of the Otakus dealing with One Piece
Cartoon Network ended Toonami and Naruto never gained any ground.
Disney Channel started the whole Pedo-Pop bullshit which Continued with Nick from Victorious on down.
Thundercats was sacrficed for two CN's Idea of a Joke in Level Up.
The Fanbase split because of the One Piece issue / seeing what was up in Japan didnt mesh with our moral impertives there was a move to more western asthics (see the issue with Dragons Dogma and what Shidoshi stated why she didnt like the look, and everybody else on gaming side hated on her) which are the reasons why COD and the like are succeeding.
Economic situation in the US.
Certain parts of the fanbase dont like the "Crunchyroll" side of anime - but cannot stand the "COD/Skyrim" like of Adult Swim or "Pred-Pop" of disney and the like, sees this franchise as the balance of these two.

And the one major thing, each of these companies shows or products have some type of athentication to get there stuff. The shows makers dont care.

I see it as the tombstone of the tv animation industry but the casket isnt there because the body is in hospital trying to be revived.

this is like a 9/11 conspiracy theory but about nerdy cartoon shows instead of the government being evil.

what in the holy fuck am i reading.

I do. You obviously don't.

Hint: It's because it's an actual well-written, light hearted, funny, honest, well animated, cute, nice, lovable show done by a lot of people who really care about it and made in a way everyone all over the world can like it who doesn't wear blinders.

I'm sorry, but your list is pretty off and doesn't have anything to do with anything. I don't even know half of the stuff you talk about. I'm not even in the US.

Boss Doggie

all my loli wolf companions are so moe
I am still fascinated that people assume that in order for something to have a huge following, it has to be "next to godliness good".

I mean, Avatar had a following, and we all know that movie is shit.

Not saying MLP is bad of course.

Also people forget that a huge amount of goodness comes from the "it's surprisingly good" factor. You're right that it's just good as a typical cartoon... but look at the context. MLP is a franchise with shitty cartoons, and then bam, this came out.

The American cartoon industry shot itself in the foot (Novid is an expert).

My Little Pony's popularity is proof that the industry is dead (despite it's alleged signs of life), because tens/hundreds of thousands of bronies simply could not have spawned from one small article picked up by 4chan unless they were starved for real cartoons like Thundercats.

I got, regular show, and adventure time, and theres some other good shows, some other good anime.

i dont know if american males were that desperate for animation, you make it sound like we have all latched onto this cuz we were literally dying with out good cartoons.

like if this came out in the 90s no one would give a shit.

i dont think i was 'starved' for animation lol, im not a delusional junkie or something what the hell.

I think I can understand why adults watch the show, but I really don't get why said adults still want to buy figurines, stuffed animals and stickers from the show.

uuugh here.

bruticus - cost prohibitive and big
cliff jumper - there are a lot. A LOT. of good transformers toys
helicarrier - expensive, big, and terrible design
x-force - don't know about it... I'll guess "more x-men" in a place with billions of x-men toys
masters of evil - somewhat obscure villans
hiss - surprised this isn't sold out. but again, another awesome transformers toy in a world full of awesome transformer toys. also a good gi-joe toy.
gi joe primary - lots of gi jor toys like it int he world
gi joe secondary - lots of gi joe toys in the world
carbonite - carbonite jar jar is alluring, bit it's only when bought with this giant pack, so buy 10 things you don't want to get the jarjar
jem - no new show in 20+ years?

pony - well made toy of a new continuity (the one that the massive surge of fans are fans for) of which there is less than 10 good toys like it. two of which being sold at this show.

heck lets go by prices

bruticus - $100
cliff jumper - $25
helicarrier - $130
x-force - $50
masters of evil - $30
hiss - $65 (oooh that's why it hasn't sold out)
gi joe primary - $15
gi joe secondary - $15
carbonite - $80
jem - $125

pony- $20

the pony is low costing and somewhat easy to ship. so easy to ebay. the $15 gi joes are the tiny gi joes going for twice the price of a toy in the store. the pony toys sell for $20 in the store, so it's the same price for a special version

to confuse people

Same reason why adults buy X-Men figurines and shirts, or Thundercats toys. It's not that far-fetched, really.

Also, Pinkie on my monitor at work always makes everyone happy :)

A year after they stop or truncate episode production. So maybe in two or three years.

A lot of jokes get thrown at bronies, but it was nothing to the total persecution of furries ten years ago. I wonder if the internet is becoming more tolerant.

Also

And a repaint of a toy that's getting released in (admittedly worse, but similar) colours at mass retail next month. And in G2 colours as an Amazon exclusive. And retooled as the fan favourite Wreckers team (that resemblance is patchy, but the toys look better).

And it isn't even a very good Bruticus - the torso is far too small and the Fall of Cybertron aesthetic doesn't seem to be wildly popular with fans. Better attempts have been made.

cliff jumper - there are a lot. A LOT. of good transformers toys

And the toy has already been released at retail, just this comes with a fancy box. And it's been released at retail as a TRU exclusive again later on this year. And it's a minor retool with a bit of purple paint to make a zombie version of a character who, again, has had two toys in two years and is getting a more G1 retooled third.

There's just nothing very exclusive about the Transformers ones that will drive ebay prices.

Are bronies not furries? Or is that a huge can of worms not worth opening?
