How the hell does that make sense?

You are still here, great, so do you think the game is playable? does it look fuzzy at all compared to other PC games?

Hmm, kinda personal i think. Its not the sharpest game out there, i mean its not crysis on 1080p. But on the screen there combined with the pretty stable 30 fps it was pretty good.

urr poor wording, long drive + little sleep does that. im trying to say that the graphics are on par with the ps3 version, which for me wont be a problem.

What is the matchmaking system like, inviting your friend via co-op? or is it just an easier method of finding random players in whatever area you are in?

lol, marginally better than a version that ran 9FPS at times yet looks the same.

WE R SO LUCKY!

We're getting what the console version should have been like, it's not PC worthy.

Omg its not pc worthy sorry but cry me a river dude.

While it seems that I'm mostly alone, I'm still incredibly excited about this.

I figured I'd at least give the PC version a try. It surely can't hurt and maybe if it makes FROM enough money they'll consider focusing more on PC in the future. I'll always have the DLC to fall back on if the PC version ends up being too wonky.

For as much as I have enjoyed the game on console, I almost feel like I owe it to them out of gratitude.

I played a bit of Dark Souls on my 22" LCD via Xbox 360 VGA cable. While it didn't look great, it was far from "nauseating."

Except it was outputting at whatever resolution your xbox has been set to, not to mention that was using the 360 for this, which is completely different from a computer -> DVI.

The Xbox was set to 1680x1050, the native resolution of my monitor, meaning the scaling was done on the Xbox. How is that so dramatically different than having the scaling done on your video card?

Even though the double dippers, like myself, may be extremely disappointed by the news, I think they're asking the most out of people who have never played a Souls game before. At least double dippers know how great the game is and they also realize that a steady 30 fps is still a big improvement. New comers have to take people's word for it, while they are being asked to support what sounds like a technical debacle.

I agree that if you've never played the game and PC is your platform of choice you should definitely play it at some point but I completely understand why someone wouldn't want to drop $40 on the game near launch just because posters told them to ignore the technical issues.

People actually do this :(, how the hell do you that? do you spam packets through your network using a laptop or something?

I guess it's something like that.

Once you know they're going to do it, you can sort of counter it by outlaming them. But yeah, it sucks. It's like a step beyond rage-quitting even.

It's almost exactly the same. I don't get where people think this TV or console magic comes from.

People want to be as negative as possible and convince themselves that it will look worse than the console version, I guess? It's a shame, because Dark Souls is still one of the best games of the generation, ugly graphics or no.

It's a PC game locked at sub-HD. I really don't understand why anyone would feel the need to make that artificially worse than it is!

I dunno, I just take the rather blunt, un-nuanced position that any excuse a person makes for not playing Dark Souls is a poor one, as I am unapologetic about putting gameplay mechanics ahead of everything else.

I wondered about this. I play x360 games and PC games on the same (pc)monitor. I tried putting Tera Online to 720p(from 1080p) it looked like more ass then anything I've ever played on the 360. Is this psychological, is the scaler on the 360 better or am I missing something? Video output is from a HD6950.

edit: Nvm just checked with Alan Wake, which looks fine in 720p. Maybe Tera had issue's.

It looked like more ass than anything you ever played, or you saw more ass than in anything you ever played?

Because the latter category is more applicable for me.

No game lives in a bubble where it can't be criticized in this case because the shoddy port, or From's excuse of platform parity, it's fans actively damage controlling on their behalf. If anything is going to make me wash my hands of this game altogether is the rabid fanbase.

I think it's a matter of expectations, IE if you're going to play a PS2 game on a PS2 itself you know it's not going to look anywhere near as nice or sharp as your typical 360/PS3 game, nevermind many PC games from at least since this generation started. That, and only recently was it possible your TV was the same resolution as your monitor, and some of us still have sharper monitors than TVs so what's minimal stretching on my 720p will be more significant on my 1680x1050 monitor, and native resolution is always ideal. So for me it'll look "worse" unless I go out of my way to set up the computer to the TV and make sure everything's set correctly so I don't have black crushing or anything.

But personally I'm viewing this not as "Will look worse than on consoles!" but "will look way worse than I'd want on PC!"

I've realized that, for me, it's less about what they've done and more about what I feel they deserve to be paid for it.

This a ~$20 port, plain and simple. It's priced near a new retail PC game, but the port is so bare minimum that they can't sell me the notion of having needed to recoup for any substantial time or effort spent bringing it to the platform. I then transition to feeling as though they seek to take advantage of me. Pulling a $40 smash and grab, essentially. Well, fuck that.

Plus this thick air of "you're lucky to be getting it at all" is off-putting like a motherfucker.

From apologist are still at it I see.

The most troubling thing to hear is that despite all the artificial locks on resolutions/frame-rate the game still runs like shit apparently. Can't even hold 30 FPS on fairly good hardware. This is just mind boggling. Even the shittiest, unoptimized piece of shit port can be brute forced to run well on modern hardware.

Yeah, actually. Some games are not worthy of being released on the pc. PC has elitism, get the fuck over it.

A resolution option it not elitism.

not that I disagree with you

They added in new content. There is plenty of work put on the port it just would've been better if they focused on having higher resolution and frame rates which seems like everyone would have preferred. However some of the people here aren't being objective about the situation. This release was unplanned and short notice being worked on by a developer/publisher unfamiliar with PC market and audience, with also a language barrier. Namco can't push the release date back because that will mean less sales, more competition from used console market, people bitching about this game is blah blah days old and shouldn't be this expensive. And From probably had something already on their plates and had to move other projects around for this release. What was asked in the petition was a Dark Souls PC release, well here it is. Next time you ask for something be more clear about it especially to a publisher and developer that has almost zero PC market experience. Although from the reaction their getting it just isn't worth it seems.

Be clear about it? Who wants sub HD resolutions? Console gamers would even prefer actual HD. It's no secret that PC gamers want things like adjustable resolution, unlocked fps, and everything that has to be stripped from the console version of games because of their lack of power. From essentially just need to remove the restrictions put on the original games.

Also, if they weren't familiar with the PC, they should have outsourced it. There's no justifying this.

What people are complaining about is a standard feature that has been in every 3D PC game for the past 15 years or longer. This is not some nice-to-have that PC users are begging for. It's so obvious no one would even have thought it would not be on the table.

Holy shit, people gave Crytek all kinds of grief last year for releasing Crysis 2 at 1024x720 and 1154x720 on the CONSOLES. All of a sudden it's okay for FROM to release a sub-HD game on the PC? Get the fuck out of here.

Honestly, if they knew they weren't competent enough to port it to PC they shouldn't have bothered. I'd be much happier with no port, than a half assed port. It's a spit in the face of their fans, not only are they releasing one of the worst ports of the decade but they're asking full price admission the pleasure(£30 in the UK).

Why would I assume the game is even going to run properly on a variety of PCs when they can't even get the basics done?

I'm pretty sure I'm seeing more grief than acceptance. I also doubt it's acceptance and more "I'll lower my standards for this one."

This is disappointing. I stopped playing the game on PS3 when I found out there was a PC version in the works. I'll still buy it; probably during Steam Summer Sales 2015.

The only saving grace for me is that I'll still be able to play this excellent game when current consoles are long obsolete.

Dark Souls is 10x the game Crysis 2 is no matter what resolution you run it at... so yea, it's ok imo...

well I bought crysis 2 on pc and enjoyed it. There is zero fucking chance of me enjoying sub HD game upscaled to my monitors res of 2560x1600. So yeah it's not ok. Sales are being lost because of this so it's not ok for FROM either.

TheD

The Detective
Phyre engine (that Dark Souls uses) is a cross platform (PC included) engine made by sony that is also used by games like Grid and Dirt, so it very well should support any res (even 3D console games designed for a fixed res can be forced to run at much higher res without problems via emulators).

Do you trust a studio that can not figure out the bare basics of 3D programming to also make a port of a game without a huge number of bugs and to patch bugs in a timely manner (if at all)?

The only other option is that someone from From soft or namco had one of "those" ideas and decided that it would be "unfair" for the PC version to look better or some other shit like that.

Along with K/M support, it is one of the very minimum things you must support on PC.

Oh God, this argument again, it's like console owners cannot read. Nobody asked for 1:1 port, it is implicitly assumed a PC port will at least be tailored to PC in some way, the more the better.

Do you ask every time a new game is presented if there is a save system present? No, because things like that are fucking standard by now.

Ill get this eventually, but I'll wait for 15 or less. I wanna play it but I can definitely wait, especially considering the circumstances.

For those that didn't play the console version, isn't the PC version still the one to get ?

If so, that's better than nothing... Sure I would have liked the graphical options to be more fleshed out, but eh.

Probably, and while I've railed against this I've said that it's still the version to get pending other issues cropping up and assuming you have a good enough computer. That however does mean that it's probably best to wait a bit after release and make sure there aren't any other nasty surprises, THEN buy it.

Still haven't gotten word on my cancellation request for GMG. I wonder whether they were simply overwhelmed, or are even deliberately prolonging it to go "Whoops, can't refund you now!"

how is it ok? my god asking for a game to support a change in resolution is not a tall order, its the bare minimum.
I honestly cant think of any game, since maybe the DOS era, that you cant change the resolution on.

I played the game on ps3, and enjoyed it a lot, but such a port does not deserve my support. honestly people saying this is some sort of elitisim instead of having some standards are baffling to me

Well, I can think of a few games that won't let me change my resolution (we had PLENTY still before XP, or it'd just be two or three options), but by far and large those were 2D games, not 3D ones, so it makes sense. This is kind of crazy unless there's some technical hangup we're not aware of, but we'll probably find that out shortly after release.

And the elitism... there's undoubtedly a few people who haven't had the chance to play the game AT ALL and are turning their noses up at this, and I think it's a shame, but it's definitely been bandied around too much when many of us are console players who basically wanted to remove the limitations on the graphics and go all out with really high resolutions and FPS. As is it sounds like we're almost lucky that Blighttown won't be the problem it once was. Then again, the game rarely ran at 30 FPS reliably as I recall, so it'd probably still FEEL much smoother at least.
